Yer not alot really to talk about but I thought I’d post anyways. We been linked with the Villarreal midfielder Marcos Senna, to be honest I know nothing about him so I can’t really comment, however he was born in Brazil so he must be good. Also Glenn Roeder has ruled out a move to bring Sol Campbell up to Newcastle, he says he wants to bring a younger player in rather than the 31 year old Sol. Meanwhile his college Cygan has finally realised he will only be a subsitute at Arsenal so has signed a long term deal to stay with us! Wow! I didn’t see that one coming…amazing. So on that bomb-shell, that’s it for today.

Haven’t posted for a couple of days simply because they’re has simply been no news. Well some little bits but nothing really worth talking about. Pires reveals that he wanted to stay with us but suddenly became a bench-warmer, and he wants a 2 year contract for that?

I’ve had feedback saying I’ve been a little harsh on here to Sol and Bobby but Sol did walk out on us halfway through a game, he has been great for us in years gone by but I think this is the best time to sell him. Also, Pires has been a great player for us and arguably one of our best in history. His departure was a little sad but he’s had his time and all good things must come to an end one day.

We really need to sign some more players but I don’t think there will be one before the World Cup now. With Campbell almost certainly leaving, a chance of Cole too and I doubt Cygan will be offered a new deal; there’s a possibility of losing 3 defenders. We need to sign at least one anyway: we’ve discovered loads of back-up left backs this season so we don’t need one of those, unless Ash leaves. We got Eboue and Lauren on the right and also Hoyte or Djourou to back up. So what I think we need is a versatile centre back, Ledley King would be ideal but I don’t think we’ll get him, I leave Arsene to work his magic in finding one rather than me debating names.

The move I spoke about of Shevchenko to Chelsea is looking more likely, blah blah blah…no more news, I’ll try and post again soon, whatever its about. Keep hanging on for some more news readers. Untill then, lasagnechef

Pires leaves for Villarreal 25 May, 2006

So Pires has left for that ‘amazing’ 2 year deal at Villarreal and his last moment for Arsenal was that unlucky early substitution at the Champions League Final. He has had a fantastic 6 years at Arsenal but I think that it is time for him to go now, apparantly a deal was made a couple of weeks ago. To be honest, I’m not really sure what’s so incredible about a two year deal. The only thing I can think of is: he knows he will be crap at football in a year and won’t play but can still get all the money from his wages. And that doesn’t really say alot for him does it. Also, good on Arsene for standing by his 1 year policy, shouldn’t have been told what to do by Pires.

His time with us has been full of ups and downs; from the 49 unbeaten run, to the infamous ‘passing penalty’ cock-up. That still makes me cringe today.

Pires was part of that old Arsenal and is not part of this new exiting side thats coming through, also with Rosickys arrival he would never get in the team anyway. But he’s gone to go play with the ‘yellow submarine’ now, so bye-bye bobby, cheers for the good times.

As I said Roberto Carlos is set to join Chelski on a 3 year deal which he says he will decide on after the world cup. Click the link for details. Also the Robert Pires situation looks ever likely to go ahead and he is it expected to be unveiled as Villarreal’s latest signing soon. Now that we’ve captured Rosicky I’m happy for Rob to leave, he’s no longer needed here and I would be very suprised if he’s still hanging about next season. Talking of Rosicky, he’s just come out saying that he snubbed an offer from Chelsea in 2004 of nearly double what we’ve got him for. Also he spoke on the subject of claiming the famous number 10 shirt.

“We have not talked about it at all, I don´t care. If they give me 79, I will gladly take it,”

That says to me that he just wants to get down and play for Arsenal, I’m really exited about this guy; I really think he’s gonna prove a brilliant player for us. Also Sol Campbell has said he will decide about his future after the world cup and has said about staying: “Well Arsenal is there”. He doesn’t give two shits about us and that comment has just said like ‘well if i feel like it i suppose I can stay at Arsenal’. Fuck him, send him off to Turkey or whatever, we’re wasting summin like £70k a week down him and he’ll never rival Senderos for a starting 11 place. Let him go, he was good for a while but he’s had his day I’m afraid. Cheers for the last few years Sol but it’s time to move on.

Not much else news really…Oh apart from Ash has says he sees no reason why he would be leaving us. Good on him, I reckon he aint goin anyways. And Sven says our biggest prospect Theo Walcott will have some envolvement in the England B vs Belarus match tommorow night. Will be watching him, and wish him the best of luck, also Hleb is from Belarus so we might see him in action too. Thanks for reading, cya!

Thomas Rosicky: “I came to play with Henry” 23 May, 2006

Today our first signing of the summer was officially unveiled. ‘The Dumpling’ had a clause in his Dortmund contract enabling him to leave for £6.8m and it’s Arsenal who’ve snapped him up on the cheap.

His ex-club are sufferring financial trouble and are being forced to sell some of thier top players, they finished mid-table in the Bundesliga this season and are stuggling. I’m pleased to see Wenger’s ambition in the transfer market this year by making a good signing so early. The only thing I can point out about him is when it comes to buying players he usually buys young talent that will be good in a few years time. Don’t get me wrong, Arsene has made some incredible signings over the years this way, but more recently we’ve needed some big names that can slot right into the squad. Ok we have seen Diaby, Hleb and Adebayor but they have hardly been incredible. Hleb’s only come into form of late, we haven’t really seen alot of Abou due to some reckless Sunderland scum and I’m not Adebayor’s greatest fan in the world; he hasn’t done alot and has had some good luck along the way. Thomas Rosicky however is a big name, and will be a great asset to Arsenal. Earlier this season he was asked if he’d prefer to go to Arsenal or Athletico:

“If I had the possibility to choose, I would like to play for Arsenal with Thierry Henry because he is the best.”

I said before, that if Henry stays the club will be more appealing to other players; Thierry signed, and along came Tommy. I’m looking forward to seeing those two linking up at Ashburton Grove, it’s an exiting prospect I think you’ll agree. I mentioned yesterday he might be the high profile midfielder to replace to Patrick Vieira but it’s more likely he will be the replacement for Bobby Pires. It’s becoming increasing likely that he will be shipped off to Villarreal as I think that if Wenger was going to offer him that 2 year contract he would of done it by now. One great signing done, but Wenger has a £20m budget for transfers this year so it would be nice to see one or two more before the world cup kicks off. Click the pics for some useful links.

Rosicky Set to Sign for Arsenal 22 May, 2006

Breaking news today is that the Bundesliga’s record signing Thomas Rosicky is in talks with Arsenal. He left the Czech Republic ‘pre world cup’ training camp in Austria to travel to North London, and it’s understood that he passed a medical today and is now finalising a deal, it was the Czech coach Karel Bruckner who spilt the beans:

“I am surprised it did not come to light earlier. We have tried to keep our promise to keep quiet but I must now admit that Tomas is undergoing medical tests.”

He has recently been in negotiations with Athletico Madrid but they were unable to agree on a transfer fee. He signed from Sparta Prague in 2001 for £18m so I expect the fee will be in the region of that or more. This hefty price tag is testiment to the 25 year old’s talent and I anticipate seeing one of europes best midfielders in the famous red and white of Arsenal next season. He is an exiting playmaker who scores plenty of goals and could be the more offensive replacment to Patrick Vieira.

Arsenal have refused to comment on the matter but expect to see some sort of official confirmation in the next few days.

Since my last post I have changed the look and feel of the site and I’ve given it a header image which I chose over the one I showed you on the previous post, looking back that one…it’s quite shit actually; but I’m very proud of the one I’ve got now! :D Also I have added a new ‘Arsenal Stats’ page which you can view by clicking the tab at the top.

If you read my article before about Roberto Carlos you will remember I mentioned that my’s friends mate is a Chelsea youth player and whilst having a look at the new dressing rooms he came across some new player’s lockers that haven’t been unveiled to the press yet. I’ve already told you about Roberto Carlos and said there was more names, and I’m told one of which was Andrei Shevchenko.

There is no doubting that Shevva is a real talent and would be a great addition to any squad in the world. It is widely known that Chelsea are interested and if my sources are correct then he has signed for the russians. He is 29 and is still in great form so you can understand that Milan are desperate to keep him but I think that it will soon be announced that he is the latest purchase by Roman Abramovich.

In other transfer news, Sol Campbell, our goalscorer in Paris is rumored to be joining Fenerbahce for something like 8million. Before the final I was desperate for Wenger to send him elsewhere but he did have an excellant game and he may be coming back to the old Sol we used to know. However I always assumed he’d go on a free transfer so if we were to be offered anything like that eight million pound figure then I don’t think anyone would turn that down. However the Turks deny having any talks with the Sol.

Thanks for reading.

I’ve just been told some news that I think you’d all wanna hear. Now I dunno how correct this is but if it is true then remember you heard it here 1st on The Cannon. My friend’s mate plays for the Chelski youth team and I’m told he was having a wonder about the bridge and looking at all the new furnishings and went in to look at the new dressing rooms as they have all the players names on the lockers now. He was looking around and saw Frank Lampard, John Terry and Micheal Ballack, but then he came across Roberto Carlos. Yes, this is a Cannon exclusive that Carlos has agreed to sign Chelsea. I’ve got the actual e-mail from my friend here if u like:

“mate, if you want some inside news- this is exclusive- my mate who plays for chelsea, in the 1st team dressing room they have new lockers put in – one headed ROBERTO CARLOS cnt remember the other but will send u them 2moz – this is not shit about, for real this bloke is kosha! might wana put it on your website!”

I think this is massive news as Chelsea plan to bring in another world class signing. Carlos is arguably the best left back in the world and is a position where they haven’t managed to fill with some real talent and I think we all remember their infamous attempt to lure Ashley over there. Even though Carlos is now 33 and coming to the end of his career, he is still an excellant player and would be a pleasure to see him in the Premiership in the same way that people are saying about Henry. However the fact of the matter is, he will be Chelski, he will be scum, full-stop.

This news would mean that Madrid now have a Galactico to replace and their desire to capture Ash is well known, he might be tempted to go and join them but I think he will stay to play in a side including Thierry Henry. I will save Arsenal transfer talk for another post but I just got this news and I thought I should get it published asap. Also my mate said there was another guy too so as soon as I know I’ll get it written up. See ya soon, keep checking for my update on this.

Here’s what we can look forward to seeing more often:

Henry’s going nowhere 19 May, 2006

Today we heard the news that all gooners were hoping for, and that is that Henry has signed a 4 year extension to his contract earning him an staggering 130 grand a week. He says the Champions League defeat only made his ambition to walk us out at Ashburton Grove greater.

Henry: “The game reassured me of one thing I wanted to know – how far I can go with that team. I know we lost but they showed me they are a team with heart and lots of quality. We can be so proud of what we did.”

Henry staying is brilliant news for us not only because he is simply the best player in the world but for many reasons. If he left I think Ashley Cole would have followed, I know it’s still not certain he will stay too but, he wants to win trophies and an Arsenal side including Henry is probably the best place to do it. This is also true of other players including Sol, Bobby and anyone considering leaving; I will talk further on this another day. Another factor is all the extra merchandising that will be sold due to his stay including replica ’14′ shirts, and all this will pile up into some much needed cash for the club. Also, Arsenal is now again a very appealing club to come and play for as anyone would love to play alongside Titi, Ronaldinho included. So hopefully Fernando Torres will be a one of many exiting summer additions.

The timing of Henry’s decision actually turns out to be quite useful to us. We are all on a little bit of a downer after wednesday so this will have lifted everyone’s spirits. I agree with Henry that we can reach the final for the 2nd successive year, but only if wenger does actually bring in some proper talent like Torres, like Ledley King and I think that Henry may have had a word with Arsene on this.

Also the news brings a cheeky smile to my face because of how Barcelona must be feeling now. I have seen a few ‘Henry 14′ Barca shirts and 1 kid walked passed Kitty’s on wednesday with one of these and I just love how fucking stupid he must feel now! Wasting that money on that shirt! haha! As we chanted to him the other day: ‘DREEEEAM ON! DREEEEAM ON!’

Finally, in more personal news: gilbertosilver and I appeared on the ITV show last night about Highbury. It was before the Wigan game and I came up to the camera and waved, I wasn’t watching but people have told me. Woo! I’m famous!

See ya people! Would be nice to see some comments please. Keep up the support!

Testing…testing…1, 2, 3 & Au revoir Paris 18 May, 2006

Hello there this is the official 1st post of my new arsenal blog called The Cannon. I have just come back from gay Paris this afternoon and was inspired to start an Arsenal blog due to meeting loads of arsenal bloggers in the irish bar Kitty O’Shea’s yesterday; Names include gilbertosilver, Gael Clichy (est tres rapide), elstreegooner, Dublin Gooner and the 1 and only arseblogger amongst others.

So as I say I arrived home after what seemed a very long journey this afternoon, to be honest it was quite a good trip bearing in mind the score. The atmosphere was great and just had a good time really. Below I’ve done a timeline of my 17th May 2006, as I think thats the easiest way to do it…

4.15am: Woken up by my alarm after only 2 hours sleep but got up easier than I ever have knowing what a day I had ahead of me. At this time it still hadn’t sunk in that my Arsenal we’re in the biggest game in club football.

5.00am: Me, my dad (http://elstreegooner.wordpress.com) and my brother set off to paris in the car which I decorated in flags, scarfs, shirts and banners the previous night exited and not able so wait to get to gay paris.

5.15am: We stop of nearby in Borehamwood to pick up my cousin (www.gunnerblog.com) and his mate (Gael Clichy (est tres rapide)) and then we were set and on our way down to the eurotunnel. Talk at this time was very limited due to nobody getting over 3 hours of sleep.

5.30am: By now we have only just hit the motorway and decided immediately to remove the scarfs from the windows as they make the most irritating banging…

6.45am: Arrive at the eurotunnel in Folkestone. We get a quick bite to eat before getting our Euros and then we were off to ‘check-in’. Next followed a very thorough passport inpection where the French officer waved us through with not the slightest interest of whether we even had passports never mind if they were actually ours/fake…

(GMT +1)8.35am: The train terminates in Calais which meant we were now officially in France; even though we were a mear 20 miles from England, I felt like the final was just around the corner. We now hit the French motorway and it was non-stop to Paris. (Oh apart from we had to stop soon after as my brother had to be sick…lovely)

12.30pm: We finally enter the outskirts of Paris and we were all looking out the window in anticipation as we knew the Stade De France was just around the corner. And when we saw the magnificent arena in a moat of footballing fans it really hit home that here we were, in paris, for the champions league final.

1.00pm: After driving through the streets of Paris pointing at typically French people that were holding baguettes, in bérets and with silly mustaches we went up to the Eiffel Tower which was supposed to be holding some sort of ‘Festival of Champions’ event. It was somewhat disappointing due to it just being a bit shit really but that didn’t bother me, it was the number of Barca followers and them in full voice underneath the tower. My cousin, his mate and I stood around trying to look comfortable walking around trying to find some singing Gooners, but none were to be found. Was really embarrassing actually, well there were some people scattered around in redcurrent but nobody even thinking about challenging the Catalans’ chant. In the end we decided to leave but on the way out the 3 of us started to sing “Arsenalll…Arsenallll…Arsenalll” but the only reply we got was a few joining mutters from some of the few Gooners and an ‘un-welcoming’ reply from some Barca fans.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

4.00pm: Between then and now we went up the Champs-Elysees and into niketown where we bumped into the one and only Peter Beardsly which was one of the highlights of my life. We grabbed a bit of Lunch and then marched on our way to an irish bar called Kitty O’Shea’s which we were tipped off to be where all the Gooners had disappeared off to which was on a street called: Rue Des Capucines. And finally we found the road and there, in the distance was the loyal Gooners.

6.00pm: Up until now we got a few beers in a chatted to some other bloggers who had arranged to meet here. Also 1 thing I will never forget from this trip was the game of street football which emerged from a little game of keepy-uppys. A goal was formed from 2 cages and we had ourselves a game of footie. We used the cars on the street as defenders and we had crossed supplied in from the far side, it was truly a magical moment. If you were there and recall the ball being kicked over into the building site, I was the one who jumped the fence to retrieve it, only to be greeted by a gang of puzzled French builders, My French isn’t very good but I’m sure they were saying something along the lines of: “What the fuck are you doing here?”. Around at this time about 6-ish people started to leave for the stadium and was quite depressing knowing I would never get a ticket no matter how much I convinced myself I just might as I knew there was no way I could afford them as they were being flogged for about €1500 on average, and there was many fake tickets in circulation.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

8.00pm: Everyone was settling down now to watch the big game and nerves kicked in but the chanting gained confidence in all of us and everyone was in good spirts, apart from when some French wankers came in shouting ‘Barceloooooona’, ‘Guuuuuily’, and ‘Ronaldinho’ were pushing there way right to the front. They were replied with: ‘Whooo the fucking hell are you? who the fucking…’ They soon left.

9.00pm: The game had a promising start with some early chances and everyone was believing we can do it but then, Jens made a clumsy error and was shown the red. But soon enough, O’Shea’s was back in voice cheering on the boys (even though they were some miles from us and there was on way they could hear us).

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

8.30pm: Eboue is fallen somewhat speculatively and we are given a free kick in a promising position with Henry to take and some threats in the middle. When Sol scored the bar erupted like I have never experience before, I mean I have been to Cardiff, Highbury, Wembley, Stamford Bridge and more but I have never been so jubilant in my life EVER. It was a mixture of extreme excitement and relief in a way. We were 1-0 up, against Barcelona, in the Champions League Final and with 10 men. I have never cried in happiness before, but there was a tear in my eye then.

8.50pm: Half-Time finally and everyone is in extremely pleased and in high hopes. I had to go out for some air because the atmosphere in the pub was excellent and it was all getting a bit too much so a breather was the best plan.

9.30pm: Barca have drawn level with a lucky goal and before I can come to terms that its no longer 1 nil to the Arsenal, its 2-1 to the Barcelona. From now on until the end of the match it was fairly quiet with only a hand-full of people trying to start some chanting but I think we all knew it was over.

9.55pm: Full-Time everyone was silent apart from the one Barca fan in there who was to be fair, quite alright and didn’t go over the top, fair play to him. Some people left now but I wanted to stay because particularly to see Titi’s interview at the end and that cheered me up slightly because all I took for that was he hates Barca and is staying.

11.45pm: Finally Got back to the Hotel after walking along the Champs-Elysees amoungst shouting Catalans and beeping cars. Check in seemed to take forever, the hotel was basic but all I wanted was that bed and when I saw it, I was out for the night.

To be fair it was a good trip to be honest, it’s just a shame about the referee and the result, However all I could think about was how easily and dramatically my mood could be right now and just simply what COULD have been.

Until next time. Thanks for reading.
