Today our first signing of the summer was officially unveiled. ‘The Dumpling’ had a clause in his Dortmund contract enabling him to leave for £6.8m and it’s Arsenal who’ve snapped him up on the cheap.

His ex-club are sufferring financial trouble and are being forced to sell some of thier top players, they finished mid-table in the Bundesliga this season and are stuggling. I’m pleased to see Wenger’s ambition in the transfer market this year by making a good signing so early. The only thing I can point out about him is when it comes to buying players he usually buys young talent that will be good in a few years time. Don’t get me wrong, Arsene has made some incredible signings over the years this way, but more recently we’ve needed some big names that can slot right into the squad. Ok we have seen Diaby, Hleb and Adebayor but they have hardly been incredible. Hleb’s only come into form of late, we haven’t really seen alot of Abou due to some reckless Sunderland scum and I’m not Adebayor’s greatest fan in the world; he hasn’t done alot and has had some good luck along the way. Thomas Rosicky however is a big name, and will be a great asset to Arsenal. Earlier this season he was asked if he’d prefer to go to Arsenal or Athletico:

“If I had the possibility to choose, I would like to play for Arsenal with Thierry Henry because he is the best.”

I said before, that if Henry stays the club will be more appealing to other players; Thierry signed, and along came Tommy. I’m looking forward to seeing those two linking up at Ashburton Grove, it’s an exiting prospect I think you’ll agree. I mentioned yesterday he might be the high profile midfielder to replace to Patrick Vieira but it’s more likely he will be the replacement for Bobby Pires. It’s becoming increasing likely that he will be shipped off to Villarreal as I think that if Wenger was going to offer him that 2 year contract he would of done it by now. One great signing done, but Wenger has a £20m budget for transfers this year so it would be nice to see one or two more before the world cup kicks off. Click the pics for some useful links.
