I didn’t manage to catch the game but what I missed was a nine goal thriller, I went to Arsenal 10, Barnet 1 a couple of years ago, that was good. The game saw Reyes, Fabregas, Van Persie and Gilberto all had their first appearances this season with RVP getting two of the goals. The other goals came from Johan Djourou, Kolo Toure, Nicklas Bendtner, Alex Hleb and two from Emmanuel Adebayor. Schwadorf were very exited for the game, they are only a third division team and the local town was full of excitement about to play the runners up in Europe.

We started brightly though and nearly took the lead in the fourth minute with Gilberto the bar with a header from a Jose Antonio Reyes corner. However in the sixth minute it was 1-0 to the Arsenal; Van Persie got around the goalkeeper and simply finished into the empty net. In the tenth minute we nearly scored from a corner again, this time Toure from a Reyes corner which Thomas Reitprecht had to clear off the line. 5 minutes later though Reyes provided another great corner and Djourou made it 2-0 with a powerful header. Nice to see Arsenal producing the goods from corners again. The home side nearly narrowed the lead with Christian Schandl going just wide of the target twice and Oliver Lederer forced a fine save out of Almunia. However the home fans hopes of bringing it down to a one goal lead were shattered when RVP put in Adebayor who beat the keeper to make it three. Then with the last play of the first half he got another goal to take Arsenal in at the break 4-0 up.

Wenger reshuffled the team with seven changes at the break including Armand Traore who I have been very impressed with recently, Song who had a great game the last time he played in Austria and Hleb amongst others. Two subs provided a goal almost immediately after coming on with Hleb and Song working a good play for Van Persie to finish with a nice half-volley. It was nearly 6-0 four minutes later when Thomas Zingler blocked a shot from Aliadiere which was going in at the far post, despite Zingler’s efforts to keep his team going down further, it was 6-0 a few minutes later when Kolo Toure’s deflected free kick went into the back of the net.

Arsenal had a succession of close shaves after that with Poom having to run back to his goal and then make a save from Labaska’s shot, and then from the resulting corner Karol Schulz smacked it against the inside of the post. Nearly a goal for the home side who would so desperately love a consolation to reward their efforts. With half an hour to go, Wenger brought off all the players that were left on from the first half, one of the players brought on was Nicklas Bendtner who scored from close range after being set up cleverly by Alex Hleb. Then on the 84th minute, the scorer and provider of the seventh switched roles with Bendtner setting up Hleb to make it 8-0 to Arsenal.

There was a bit of a fairy-tale finish for the Austrians with Labaska scoring from close range with only three minutes left on the clock, the home crowd loved it and all were happy at the Sportzentrum Stadium. It was good for Arsenal to be back on form but if you think about it, beating an Austrian 3rd division side by seven goals with Eboue, Toure, Gilberto, Fabregas, Hleb, Reyes, Van Persie and Adebayor in your team isn’t that amazing; but still, it was nice to see Arsenal banging in some goals. Our next matches are on the 4th August, where we play AZ Alkmaar and my home town of Borehamwood in the same day.

I have to go out but there just time to do a really quick post, there’s not that much news anyway so it’s alright. Jose Reyes has denied the rumours saying he’s off to Madrid.

“I don’t know where these words have come from. But what I would like to say is that I am very happy at Arsenal. At the moment we are all training hard in preparation for the new season and I am excited about not only playing at Emirates Stadium but also helping Arsenal to challenge for honours.”

Not too convincing, I think Jose does want to go to Madrid but he is happy at Arsenal at the moment. If an offer did come up from Real Madrid then I’m sure Jose’s eyes would light up but for now, he is our player still. The same can be said about Ashley Cole, his dream is to get lots and lots and lots of money so he can buy lots of nice watches and cars and houses blah blah blah…but at the moment, he too is still our player.

We play Schwadorf today, no time for a proper match preview I’m afraid. It’s our second friendly of our pre-season tour of Austria after beating SV Mattersburg 2-1 on Tuesday. Kick off is at 4pm UK time and it will be shown on Arsenal TV Online. You might see some better known faces this time round as the last match saw the introduction of Rosicky, Toure and Adebayor amongst others.

I really have to go now, have a good day people. C’mon the Arsenal!

Once again we find ourselves in a situation where it looks like Reyes will try and escape to sunny Madrid. It’s not the first time we’ve heard this and I think we’ll all remember the infamous phone call prank where he admitted to be desperate to go to Madrid. He’s never fitted in, in England, if it’s not the language, it’s the weather or the food. He’s come out again saying this:

“I have always said that I want to return to Spain, I have nothing against Arsenal, completely the opposite. It is a great club and they have helped me so much. The fans have given me so much support since I joined. But they know that I have not adapted to life in England. I have not got used to the language or the weather. If Real Madrid want me then that is marvellous. I have always said what a huge club it is and it would be an honour to play for them. Let’s see what happens.”

I don’t blame the boy, if his heart is set on Real Madrid we can’t really stop him. He’s never been amazing at Arsenal so it wouldn’t be a big problem if he went, he did have a good spell a couple of seasons back and we thought we had captured some real talent but it never came to be. I believe him what he’s saying about England and Arsenal, I don’t see any reason why he would like our club, and I can just understand about the weather thing, it’s a bit drastic but if that’s how he feels then okay. We paid £17m for him and it would be nice to see some of that money back, however there is talk that we could see Baptista coming the other way as part of the deal. You’ll probably remember last year we were after him, we wanted a strong, physical striker that wouldn’t get pushed about, I think that’s what we’ve got Adebayor for now but I’d be happy if Baptista to come too and I think we would need him if we lost Reyes as that would be another striker gone. We’ll see how this develops in the coming weeks.

Joe Cole and John Terry are looking forward to the arrival of Ashley Cole…well good for them. Also Steve Bruce is delighted to have captured Fabrice Muamba on a season long loan, Gunnerblog has an excellent piece on the kid which is definitely worth a read.

No more news, it was the Highbury Auction yesterday, hopefully that will add a bit more money to the transfer fund. I really hope we sign someone this coming week, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve said this…

Arsenal play either Dinamo Zagreb or Ekranas 29 July, 2006

In the Champions League qualifying round draw yesterday, Arsenal got Dinamo Zagreb or Ekranas. We are likely to travel to Croatia to play Dinamo as they beat Ekranas 4-1 in the first leg of their match, the second leg is on August 2nd. To be honest, I was going to write a little piece about the teams, but really, who they fuck are they? Who gives a shit who these crappy teams are, they are going to be thrashed by us while they are standing around with their mouths open looking at our shiny new stadium. According to one person in my comments Dinamo are a good side, well they must be okay to get into the Champions League (*cough* Tottenham) but still, it should be a walkover for Arsene’s boys. We will be without Lehmann, Senderos, Ljungberg and most probably Cole but still they shouldn’t cause us any trouble. All I wanted in that draw was for the second leg to be at home because I’m away for the first leg and wouldn’t be able to go. Oh yeah also I didn’t want that Israeli club that Liverpool got, looks like they’re going to play the match elsewhere.

David Dein, when talking about the draw afterwards said that there has been preliminary talks between Arsenal and Chelsea about Ashley Cole. So yeah, hopefully he fucks off soonish. However Dein-o emphasised that Cole is still our player, I think Ashley has other ideas though…Either that or he got dumped for having a small willy and is in a state of depression and the “Girls Aloud” person or whoever she is just wanted to divorce him and steal all his money because her band were shite.

Erm, other news, two cunts have moved elsewhere. Ruud Van Nistelrooy has gone to Real Madrid. Good. I can’t stand looking at his face any longer. The fee is thought to be just over £10m and it is rumoured Ruud is getting paid 5 bails of hay a week and a sugar cube for every goal scored. Man U have used this money to help capture Carrick from Tottenscum, they had a £10m bid rejected and they had an offer accepted yesterday of something like £18 or something. Carrick will no-doubt replace Roy Keane in the center of the park for Man U, I’m not that bothered about the move because we’ve got Fabregas and I’d rather have him than anyone.

Right I’m off now, enjoy your weekend

Champions League Draw Today 28 July, 2006

Today at 11:00am we’ll find out who we’re playing in our Champions League qualifiers. After beating Tottenham to 4th place last year we have to go through the qualifying round first, unfamiliar circumstances for Arsenal fans. A list of who’s in the draw with us can be found here but to be honest with you I don’t really understand, there’s seeded teams and non-seeded blah blah blah…I’m sure it will be explained to me a thousand times when I turn onto Sky Sports News at 11. The first legs will be on August 8th or 9th and the second legs are on August 22nd or 23rd, you can check this out on the fixtures page where I’ll update it with who we get and what dates the games will be on.

In other news it looks as if there’s a possibility that Chelsea won’t sign cAshley Cole, Jose Mourinho told Sky Sports:

“We will find a solution regarding the left back position. We are looking at options but it is not a disaster if nothing comes of it. We are well enough covered for that position.”

Not very strong words from the Chelsea’s boss but it still does seem likely that Cole will go there. However the idea that Cole might stay is quite strange, in Gooners’ eyes he’s pretty much gone and is hated by most of them, imagine now that Cole does stay, would he get booed in front of 60,000 of his own fan? At the moment: yes. If there were a dramatic turn of events then Ash would have to make a public apology to his manager and his fans and ask for support back. At the moment I still see Cole playing in blue next season but there is a slight chance he won’t leave, I mean after all he’s still got 2 years left on his contract with us.

Birmingham have signed Fabrice Muamba and Seb Larsson on season long loans. I think this is a great move for the two youngsters, Birmingham are still quite a big club even after their relegation but still I think these two will have a chance in the side. Hopefully they come back full of experience and hunger to play and I wish them luck there. Also, our reserves winger Ryan Smith has signed for Derby with on undisclosed fee. I don’t think he had much of a chance at Arsenal, especially with Theo Walcott he would never really get into the team. That means another Englishman gone to add to the list but Wenger has said how difficult it is to buy good English talent today. We says he hopes to sign a defender and would preferably want an English one but prices are too high in England, a good example is Curtis Davis: a decent player, not amazing but quite good, however West Brom want a whopping £10m for him which is just way too much really. Davies went to West Brom last summer for only £3m, it just shows you what it’s like, also clubs think they can get more money out of the bigger clubs and can charge more, that’s why he’s gone up by seven million. Wenger had this to say:

“I know the prices in England. The prices for young talent are the prices you’d pay for established players. We do it sometimes. We did it for Theo Walcott for example but we cannot do it always. We have Toure, Djourou, Senderos and Cygan. If we can find someone and we can get them then we will do it. But at the moment I have not found anybody. But remember these defenders went 10 games in the Champions League without conceding a goal so I cannot say they are bad. I am a strong believer in them.”

True words from the boss but I think everyone feels at least one more signing would do just nicely and would settle a few nerves. It’s now Friday and there was no signing this week. So I guess we now hope that we sign someone next week. The team are currently out training in Austria and their next match is on Monday against Schwadorf. I’m off, have a good day people.

News Roundup 26 July, 2006

Jermaine Pennant is currently having a medical at Liverpool and is set to sign for £6.2m from Championship side Birmingham. When we sold him to the Blues part of the agreement was that if he was sold on we’d get 25% of the fee, so if he does go for £6.2m then we’d see just over one and a half million pounds of that. Which is pretty good for doing nothing.

In other transfer news, Arsene Wenger has admitted that Cole might not be an Arsenal player next season.

“If you want me to guarantee he will be here next season I cannot do it. He has only two years left on his contract. We have not made any movement there and when you have a player in that situation you cannot say much. There is nothing going on with Ashley at the moment. There is no offer and we are not talking to anybody about him.”

Arsene said he still has hope that he’ll be an Arsenal player come the end of August but I think he knows he won’t be, and even if he did the fans would let him know he isn’t wanted here. The fee looks like its going to be anywhere between £16m and £30m, it really does depend on negotiations and if there is that buy out clause in Cole’s contract. The Independent says that talks between Arsenal and Chelsea have begun which Arsene Wenger has just told us is bollocks; also they say that we’ll spend £10m of Cole’s transfer fee on West Ham’s Yossi Benayoun. I don’t see why we’d want him seeing as we’ve just bought Rosicky who I think is going to be a big star for us, The Independent points this out themselves too so I don’t see why they bothered to report this shite. We won’t be buying Benayoun, but we will be selling Cole, Chelsea will hope to sign him before the 8th August because that’s when we play our first Champions League qualifier game and if Cole take’s part in that he won’t be able to play for Chelsea in the competition. He’s on his honeymoon at the moment so as soon as he gets back I’m sure Arsenal and Chelsea will meet.

Three of our reserve players are subject to transfer speculation: Nicklas Bendtner who threatened to leave if he wasn’t going to be playing more first team football has announced that he’s going to stay. Rangers were very interested on taking the boy on a season-long loan but Wenger has said he has a place here. Ryan Smith hasn’t been seen recently and he might be having talks at Derby, their manager Billy Davies was interested in Celtic’s Stephen Pearson but it looks as if he’s going to be staying in Glasgow. His next choice is our 19-year-old Ryan Smith so maybe there’s a possible move there for him, I would be too bothered if he left, he’s not an amazing prospect. The other reserve player who’s being linked with another club is Fabrice Muamba who Sunderland want on loan. I quite like Muamba and he could be a decent player for us in the future, Sunderland who last season took Hoyte on loan would like to borrow another player for their Championship campaign. Their new manager Niall Quinn says he has spoken to Arsene twice and it looks as if Wenger will grant Sunderland their wish in hope that Fabrice will gain some first team experience.

The only other news is some quite bad news and it is that Freddie Ljungberg might miss the start of the season with an inflammation around his ankle. Wenger says he’s had an injection but probably won’t be ready for the Villa game on August 19th, which would also rule him out of the Champions League qualifiers.

I might not be able to write a post tomorrow, I’ve got a busy day. To compensate you’ve got two posts today you lucky bastards. Have a good day.

SV Mattersburg 1-2 Arsenal – 25/07/06 – (Friendly) 26 July, 2006

Arsenal beat Mattersburg by two goals to one last night with a few world cup stars making their return to the team. Tomas Rosicky making his debut, Kolo Toure, Eboue and Adebayor all coming on at the hour mark. We had a good start and in the fifth minute Traore whipped in a low cross which Aliadiere volleyed into the back of the net at the near post. Then after this both Hleb and Aliadiere had a chance to make it 2-0 with Hleb’s shot saved when one-on-one with the ‘keeper and then Aliadiere headed the ball over the bar from the rebound.

Mattersburg had a few attacks, in the 17th minute Bernd Kaintz shot in low which Zinedine Cygan blocked to send it for a corner. Goce Sedloski also had a chance from a free kick but it hit the wall from which Morz powered in a shot which forced Almunia to make a good save. However Manuel had to make an ever better save when Morz again tried to take a touch around him but Almunia lunged and pushed the ball away.

At Half time Almmunia was replaced for Poom and Lupoli came on for Bendtner. Nicklas couldn’t really get in the game and didn’t look too sharp; he just announced this week that he is staying with Arsenal after threatening to go to Rangers. Another performance that stood out in the first half was Alex Song, however, he had a brilliant game and easily his best for Arsenal. He was showing what Wenger must’ve seen in him and made some bright passes and some clever play. Don’t forget who we were playing though, but at least he’s making progress.

The Austrian side nearly got an equaliser with Poom spilling a shot from Kaintz but it was Arsenal who looked most threatening and made it 2-0 on 53 minutes. Song did well to set up Justin Hoyte who placed it into the net past the ‘keeper. On the hour mark we saw some more exiting substitutions: Adebayor, Toure, Eboue and Rosicky came on for Aliadiere, Cygan, Hoyte, Randall with Toure taking the armband. Our new Czech midfielder Rosicky went over to the left flank with Hleb taking the right. We looked quite a threatening team on paper but it was the home side who were making progress. In the 70th minute Patocka crossed in a free kick from the left and Patrick Burger headed it against the bar. A close shave. But not long after Patocka scored from a header off the woodwork to make it 2-1. Our defending from the corners and set pieces wasn’t amazing which we were made to pay the price for, nearly 2 goals in quick succession and it would have levelled the scores. Thankfully there were no more goals and we held out to win 2-1. The game had impressive performances from Song, Almunia, Traore and Lupoli with Rosicky showing glimpses of some exiting talent, I’m looking forward to seeing him more in an Arsenal Shirt. Our next friendly of this pre-season tour of Austria is against Schwadorf on Monday 31st July.

Chelsea: Name your price 25 July, 2006

It seems it’s only at matter of how much for now on Cole moving to Chelsea. It looks as if we’ll get about £20m for him, apparently cAshley has got a £16m buy-out clause in his contract but The Mirror has it that we’ve rejected a £16.5m offer from the Russians. I’m not really sure about buy-out clauses but doesn’t it mean that if Chelsea offered £16m then we’d have to sell him at that price? I don’t know but that’s what I thought it was. Anyway we are apparently demanding £25m for him which seems about right seeing as they paid £21m for SWP, £24m for Drogshit and £20m for Carvalho.

Cole has to go now, I know Arsene will be reluctant to sell to and English club but he might have to. The only other option would be Madrid but I think Cole will follow his cuntish instincts and go to Chelsea. Gooners are never the type to hate ex-players but I think cAshley Cole will be an exception, he’s one of the modern football players who likes to go clubbing and turn up late to training with a hangover in their ‘pimped-out-ride’. He’s the sort who’s only after money in the game and doesn’t give a shit about loyalty, last season he signed a contract extension with us to put him on £60,000 a week. He knows he can get paid more if he goes to Chelski so just let him fuck off. Him and his wanker agent, I think that maybe if Cole didn’t have this agent then he’d probably not of turned out like this but there you go.

Cole is due to return from honeymoon soon and I reckon a deal will be sorted shortly. Expect to see some sort of official announcement soon.

SV Mattersburg v Arsenal Preview

Today is the first match of our Austrian Pre-Season tour against SV Mattersburg. The Austrian Bundesliga club plays its home games at the 17,100 capacity Pappelstadion where tonight hosts the Gunners. I really don’t know what else to say…if you’re about I think there’s still tickets available, otherwise the match is live on Arsenal TV Online an kick-off is 7pm Austrian time (which is 6 o’clock over here, I think). Arsenal haven’t announced the squad yet but it should be the same as the first half of the Ajax match pretty much, I’m not going to get to see the game unless it’s on like Bravo or Eurosport or something like that but I’ll try and do a match report anyway. Until then

Not Much News Once Again… 24 July, 2006

In trying to find some Arsenal News to talk about I came across this which kept me amused for some time. If you are bored take a look.

Ok, I did find some news: After Vieira’s great reception on Saturday, Bergkamp feels it would be a good move for Arsenal to bring him back. Vieira’s club have been relegated to Serie B with a -30pt. start and many players want out, Paddy being one. Barca are aparantly interested but it looks as if Inter Milan are set to sign the 30 year old. Personnaly, I don’t see Vieira returning, but Dennis has been counting the number of people that do.

“I think about 56 people said to me today that Patrick should have another year here and I hope he will. Maybe that’s not the right thing to say in football, but everyone saw what he did in the World Cup and if he can get to that level with Arsenal, it would be fantastic.”

I hate to burst Dennis’ bubble but I really don’t think Arsenal will win the World Cup to be honest…

If he did return it would mean we’d have three top quality centre-midfielders fighting for the two slots in the team. This would be a really good thing as it would improve the players if they knew they’d have to keep up their form or lose their place in the team and also it puts another player between Alex Song and the first team. I don’t think Wenger would approach Vieira though, if something was to happen it would have to be Paddy coming to Wenger asking for a return to Arsenal. Like I said I don’t see it happening but it might be quite good if it did, it would be healthy for the squad and it would be reassuring to the fans. The question is though, what number would he be?

Also Dennis Bergkamp has ruled out a return to football, for the moment anyway. He says he just wants to do ‘nothing’ now, he want’s to enjoy not having to go to training and take his kids to school. He hasn’t rule out possibly ever becoming some sort of coach or scout and has had talks with Wenger about this but for the moment anyway he is finished with football.

This week I expect a signing. I’ve said this before but this week has to be it. Newcastle have been showing great ambition by signing Duff and look to be signing Klose too, and if they get Owen back from injury then they’ll also be in the mix for Champions League places. We need to bring someone in and West Brom’s Curtis Davis looks to be the one at the moment. Not a very exiting player really but still, a possible signing. However he’s said that he wouldn’t mind staying in the Championship if no deal is done, which seems likely as the Baggies have put a hefty price tag on the full-back. We’ll see.

Hopefully they’ll be some more news around tomorrow. Hopefully a signing, well I’ve got to be optimistic. See ya

If I had to sum up the day in one word it would be ‘strange’. It was strange not going to Highbury, it was strange seeing about 30 different players play in the game per side and it will be strange never seeing Bergkamp play for us again. The day was started by Wenger doing this shitty, cheesy opening of ‘Emirates’ event. He was handed a toy plane from this bloke from Emirates and then he kicked a giant football which was remote controled and was meant to be steered into the North Bank Goal, but it hit the bar. It really was a game of two halfs, we had the reserves in the first 45 and the legends in the other. The reseves idea was just crap, they should of just scrapped it. If thats what I wanted to see I would’ve gone to a reserve game, not at the first ever game at Emirates. Also it didn’t help build the atmosphere because nobody knew who the fuck was playing. Bergkamp did start both halfs though which was a bit stange, also his dad kicked off the match.

We did see some good young talent in the first half like Traore had a good game but this was not what I wanted to see on the day. They should have played the Legends all game. It was a bit risky playing the reserves because Ajax came close a couple of times to scoring the first ever goal at Ashburton Grove. Then at about 25 minutes played (I say about because there was no clock inside the stadium which was the most annoying thing, sort it out Arsenal) the teams made about 7 changes each, no way am i going to list them all but Bergkamp came off to get ready for the first half, Poom came on for Almunia, Bentner came on and looked poor and there was some other people…Then Ajax did score which really annoyed me, the first goal at Ashburton Grove was by Klaas Jan Huntelaar. Oh Goody. Then a few minutes before half time we made a load more subs and then soon after the half time whistle went so I don’t understand what the point in that was…

In the concourse at half time is as quite busy and I didnt either bother trying to queue up for a drink, however there was loads of toilets which was good, no queues. Then Bob Wilson came on at half time to Introduce the Legends teams which included fo Ajax: Frank and Ronald de Boer, Frank Rijkaard, Stefan Pettersson, Edwin Van der Sar and Edgar Davids who both obviously got booed and with every touch of the ball got booed too. For Arsenal we had David Seaman, Lee Dixon, Nigel Winterburn, Steve Bould, Gilles Grimandi, Marc Overmars, Emmanuel Petit, Edu, Ray Parlour, Ian Wright, Oleg Luzhny, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Alex Manninger, Patrick Vieira, Glenn Helder, Kanu and a suprise apearance from Thierry Henry.

This was more like it this is what I came to see today We lined up with: Seaman, Dixon, Bould, Grimandi, Winderburn, Overmars, Edu, Petit, Parlour, Henry and Bergkamp. I’ve never been to a testimonial before so I really enjoyed it, seeing all the old players and singing all the old songs. Especially Seaman who was playing with the crowd, there was a round of “Seaman, do the twist. Seaman Seaman do the twist!” and he did. And also “England’s number one. England’s Enlgand’s number one!” The acoustics of the stadium were very nice and it did get quite loud at times, I can’t wait untill the proper season starts where the games have meaning, it’s going to be a great atmosphere in there. 8 mins into the second half we equalised. Bergkamp gave it to Dixon who was out on the right wing, who crossed into Henry who controlled it and shot past Van der Sar. 1-1, Arsenal’s first goal at Ashburton Grove scored by who else but Thierry Henry. I have no doubt that we’ll see plenty more of them. After the goal we were on top and were playing well and Overmars looked as if he was 25 again running down the left flank, we had a few chances but to no result.

Then Tottenham scum Davids who I don’t think realised it was a testimonial game managed to burst through our elderly defence and flicked it passed Seaman and had an open goal. Then Gilles Grimandi had a flash of genius and clipped the foot of Davids to trip him up in the box and not score the goal, the crowd went mad and I’m sure there was a few Grimandi shirts sold in the Armoury afterwards. A truely legendary moment. From the resulting penalty Ronald de Boer blasted the ball over the bar I’m not sure whether it was on purpose or not but we were happy none the less. There was a few subs in the second half too, Edu came off for Vieira who got an amazing reception, maybe the loudest out of everyone, I had goosebumps all over me. Also Luzhny, van Bronckhorst, Manninger, Helder, Kanu and Ian Wright came on who as you would expect got a massive cheer.

Manninger made a great save down on the floor to stop Ajax taking the lead and then collected the spilled ball quickly. Then 10 minutes before full-time the crowd were treated to two true legends of the game – Johan Cryuff and Marco van Basten. The crowd gave them a deserved cheer and they showed they still had a bit of they’re magic left in them with van Basten flicking the ball over Stevie Bould at the near post Alex Manninger making another great one-handed save. In the final 10 minutes we had lots of chances and we seemed to play the rest of the game in their half, Ian Wright hit the side-netting coming agonisingly close to scoring the winner. However, not long after Kanu got an eye of goal and struck the ball which took a massive deflection off Jaap Stam to beat keeper Stanley Menzo at the near post for the winning goal. A chorus of “Noooooooooo” went around the stadium as it had a few years ago in Highbury. There was nearly a fairy-tale finish with Bergkamp through on goal with a bit of an angle, he shot to the far post but Menzo denied Dennis the perfect end to an amazing 11 years.

After the game there were some presentations, a few words to say from the great man himself and then a lap of honour before being lifted on the shoulders of Vieira and Henry before the 54,000 Arsenal faithful. And with fireworks off the stadium roof that was the end and for the last time we saw the Bergkamp 10 shirt walking down the tunnel. It was a special day a the perfect way to open Ashburton Grove which looked magnificent with everyone wearing red, white and orange t-shirts.

So that’s the end of Dennis Bergkamp. One of Arsenal’s greatest players, for whom the word ‘legend’ isn’t really fitting enough.

I can’t believe today has finally come, I’ve been waiting so long for this, it’s going to be such a special day. Dennis Bergkamp’s final ever appearance in an Arsenal shirt in our Brand new Ashburton Grove Stadium. He’s had 11 fantastic years with us and 54,000 have turned up to cheer on the Iceman. I remember the day he signed and I bought the Arsenal magazine with him on the front, it was an exiting time for gooners as one of the worlds top players had decided to join a struggling club, it was somewhat of a miracle performed by Bruce Rioch. And from that June of 1995 he has been an inspirational member of the squad and scored many incredible goals in that time. Also his character was superb too, he was someone that all young players should idalise, He wasn’t a Jermaine Pennant or a cAshley Cole getting drunk in clubs and being all over the papers the next morning.

The full squad hasn’t been announced yet but the plan is to have the normal Arsenal v Ajax teams for the first half just as if it was a normal pre-season friendly, and then for the second half the legends come in. If you managed to get a ticket for today enjoy it, savour it and remember it. Those of you who weren’t so lucky it’s on Channel 5 in England, TG4 in Ireland and I heard its on in Australia too.

It seems weird that he won’t be there any more, he’s been at Arsenal for most of my time supporting them and now he’ll just be gone. He is one of the great legends of Arsenal and I’m sure most fans of other clubs can apreciate his talent and only wish they had him. Marco van Basten once said:

“”If Ryan Giggs is worth £20 million, Bergkamp is worth £100 million.”

So True.

The only piece of news about is that Peter Hill-Wood has revieled that Cole is in talks with a club. Good for him. The sooner him and his agent fuck off the better. Hill-Wood said:

“I think things are happening but I’d really rather not talk about them at the moment.”

He also spoke about our tranfer situation.

“Arsene is quite cagey about these things but at the board meeting he did say he was keen to buy a couple of players. He said he’d find them but he didn’t say who they were.”

I better go get ready to head down to Ashburton Grove. If you’re going have a great time, if you’re not make sure you watch it on TV. Have a great day. We got Dennis Bergkamp, we got Denis Bergkamp na naa na na…

Well yesterday the ‘Emirates Stadium’ opened its doors to a mass audience for Members Day. This was the first time gooners were allowed to see their new stadium and personally I was vey impressed. It’s an amazing stadium. It’s huge and every seat gets a good view of the pitch. The only flaws I could think of is that there’s a fair amount of exposed concrete still around but to be fair that can be touched up pretty quickly and also from the upper tier the sloping roof obstructs the view of one of the big screens and you have to turn around to see the one next to you. Apart from those two minor things it’s an incredible stadium and probably the best in England, Old Trafford might have a larger capacity but thats only because Americans usually use two or three seats at a time. Here are my pictures from the day:

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
The outside of the stadium is just a teaser of what’s to come inside, I love the huge crest and the curving glass walls but the two cannons are a bit strange outside the armoury shop. They’re not as crap as I thought they’d be but still, would be better just not to have them at all. The queue for the new shop was massive as you’d expect but they were offering free prining on the first 500 shirts sold and a free towel with every shirt.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Then I went through the new card entry system which had no problems as far as I saw, people went through easily with a flash of the card. There were queues to the turnstiles though, I’m not sure what that was about, probably the amount of people wanting to go in at once and the bag checking. However the queues moved quite quickly. When I got into the seating area this was the amazing view which I was greeted by, it sent shivers all over me. I know it just looks like another picture you’ve seen on the computer before but this is it, it doesn’t look real when you stand in front of it, it just looks like a photo on the website. Truely amazing stuff.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
The pitch was immaculate like Highbury and looked like an excellant playing surface, also we have those new moving advertising boards now.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
I decided to make the most of the day and wonder around the stadium. I moved over to the halfway line point in the West Stand. Then the team came out for training and were welcomed to thier new home with a chorus of “Arrrrsenal, Arrrrsenal…” which was quite load considering the small amount of people inside and he sheer size of the place. I can’t wait till saturday when we’re in full voice. The players started to do laps of the field and I got bored and behind me was one of the parts where the stadium curves up to it’s highest point so I went to go have a look at that.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
After climbing to the highest point of the seating and out of breath I thought I’d take a picture of the way down. You can see right over london from up here really is amazing.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
The players still doing laps i decided to moved over to the top of the North Bank, quite incredible here to but personally I’d rather not sit this high, my sason ticket is 4th row so quite a comparision to up here.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Then looking over the North-East corner wall you see Highbury over the rooftops, just in the same way I used to go out onto the West Stand balcony and look at Ashburton Grove. It’s a massive contrast from Highbury and I hope we can have many great memories here as we had there.

Free Image Hosting at www.ImageShack.us
Then I finally picked a seat as the players started to play mini-games. It was the same sort of squad as the Barnet game so no big names here apart from in the corner was Adebayor, Toure, Eboue and Rosicky doing some light training who had just come back from their summer break.

After the training session the players tried to kick balls up into the upper tiers which gave some players the opertunity to get embarrased. Cygan was at my corner and was quite funny watching him trying to boot the balls, and aparantly at the other side Song didn’t even get one ball up there. Well if he can’t play football and he cant do that, I really don’t know why we have him here. After this people started filtering down to the Lower Tiers for ‘fun and games’. There was a few inflatable footy games about and some other crap but I just used this opertunity to have a wonder around the stadium.

Then I took a walk round the outside of the stadium for the first time, it really is impressive, I hope you get the chance to go down there one day. I checked the shop again but the queue was double the size and was at least a 2 hour wait to get in, so I just went home. It was a really good day, I was impressed with the new stadium massivley and I’m looking forward to Saturday now, that should be amazing. They’ve announced the plans for the teams, the first half will be normal Arsenal v Ajax with current squad members but after the interval the Legends take the field with a few top names set to return: Wright, Vieira, Cruyff and Van Der Sar to name a few. I’ll talk about the match more tomorrow.

In Wenger’s interview afterwards he said he wants to add one or two players and it’s being done quietly and efficiantly. That really lifted my spirits, I wanted to know that Arsene had ambiton to sign someone and hopefully he’ll do it soon. It wont be Buffon though as he’s going to stay in Serie B with Juve. But we don’t really need a keeper though, its a defender we need, especially if Cole does fuck off. Kerrea Gilbert has gone to Cardiff on a season long so thats another defender out. I’m not going to bother speculating on who it might be because whenever I do I seem to jinx it and they don’t come.

It’s Bergkamp’s Testimonial tomorrow, I’m so exited. I’ll have a proper match preview in the morning before I go to the game. Have a good day.

Instead of talking so negative about we are all doomed if we don’t sign anyone, I’ve chosen to look on the bright side of the situation. Tomorrow is Members Day, the first time we get to enter the magnificent new Ashburton Grove. It’s started to sink in at the Wigan game that the club are moving and now today I feel it again, and I know tomorrow when I’m wondering around the “Emirates” it will really hit me hard. I’ve been looking forward to this day for a long time, about 3 years actually, ever since plans were made to move a few hundred yards across Islington I’ve been exited. Although I know tomorrow will be good, Saturday will be even better. Dennis Bergkamp, arguably one our greatest ever players, and it’s last hurrah for Arsenal, I know it will be a special day for everyone. He’s had a fantastic time with us, click this to see a photo collection of his Arsenal Career.

As for news, well there isn’t much. The 2006/07 squad numbers were officially announced so there will be no more number changes. Also Nicklas Bendtner has threatened to leave if he is not part of the squad this season. I think he’s being a little selfish, he’s only 18 and could get a chance this year but he won’t be an important part of the team. Maybe next year he’ll start coming into contention and i’m sure in the future he’ll be an exiting player for us. His agent has announced he is suddenly desperate to play first team football, the interest from Rangers must have tempted him and wondered if the grass is greener. Maybe it’s worth sitting him down and telling him, right now, he’s only on the fringes of the team but in a year or two he’ll be an important part of Arsenal, one of the biggest clubs in Europe. A loan deal for this season would be best for him probably if he want’s regualar football but Wenger doesn’t want him to leave which might suggest that he could be apart of the new Ashburton Grove era.

The only other story which caught my eye was Tottenscums new-big money-waste of time-waste of space-dickhead-signing Dimitar Berbatov. He’s been saying that he want’s to end Spurs’ record of not beating us and score the winning goal. Well I could go on and on about how shit he and his team are and how they haven’t got a chance in hell but that would be a waste of time.

I got my new shirt yesterday, I decided on getting it blank in the end, I’ll get it printed another time, hopefully there should be another signing yet. Members Day tomorrow, I’m off early in the morning and I’m a lazy cunt so I wont be posting before I go, I’ll do a write up when I get home from it. Untill then

New Kit Out Today 18 July, 2006

(yes that’s the only news there is…)

The new home kit for the 06/07 and 07/08 season goes on sale today, also today sees the opening of the brand new Armoury Store. Click on the link to see pictures and it does look quite impressive, I’m probably going to pay a visit either tommorow or thursday. I’m going to get my new shirt in my home town of Borehamwood where its only £31 or £38 with printing, a bargain. The question is what to get printed? It’s between Cesc, Kolo, Senderos, Henry, Rosicky, Bergkamp or i might get Theo Walcott who was interviewed about the new kit at our London Colney Training Centre:

”I like the look of it, it’s a nice fit and I’m looking forward to wearing it next season. Even if it’s in the reserves, I just want to play my football. Hopefully next season I can show what I can do.”

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I wasn’t expecting him to say that, I hope he does get a chance with the full team this year, it’s a shame to waste such talent. I’ve been to see him at the reserves once and I was really impressed with him, he should definatly be on the bench for us, ready to come on and cause a shock, a bit like Lennon for England in Germany. Also Thierry Henry had something to say about the new kit:

”It’s nice to go back to red and white, it’s like one of the old school shirts. I liked the redcurrant but I think Arsenal for some reason belong in red and white so I’m happy to see its return.”

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I personally liked the redcurrant kit too and I know that some other gooners don’t, I thought it was a nice touch for the last season at Highbury. However I am glad to be back in the traditional red and white. To celebrate the launch of the new kit I’ve added a new Kits page (www.the-cannon.com/kits). At the moment they only go as late as 1990 but I will put in the older shirts soon.

Also Kolo Toure had a word saying that he hopes it can bring us the premiership title. It’s not going to happen though if we don’t make any signings. At the moment this is how Chelsea and Arsenal will probably shape up at the start of the season bearing in mind injuries and possible transfers.

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

I really don’t think we have much of a chance beating that side to 1st place as it currently stands. We desperatly need a signing and the player who I said looks most likely to sign, Curtis Davies has just had an offer of £8.5m from Pompey, who musn’t be getting Sol I guess now. Portsmouth have shown more ambition in this transfer market than Arsenal as have Spurs, Liverpool, Chelsea, Man City and others. To have any kind of fighting chance we need to bulk up the squad. Another player we’ve been vaguly liked with is Feyenoord striker Dirk Kuyt who’s taken a few days off to consider his future, but Arsene has said we won’t be buying any more forward players this summer.

Ok well I’m off to buy my new shirt, hopefully Arsene buys a new player. Have a good day.

Please sign someone soon 17 July, 2006

Our hopes of signing Saviola have been shattered as Wenger thinks we have enough attackers.

“We are not interested in Saviola at all, I have enough forward players. We have bought Rosicky. We have Ljungberg, van Persie, Reyes, Henry, Adebayor, Walcott, Bendtner, Aliadiere and Lupoli. Where do I put the strikers?”

Ok, that’s fair enough however 3 of them I would consider out and out midfielders/wingers, 3 or 4 of them are probably still reserve players which ony leaves 2 or 3 proper strikers. I though Wenger needed to add at least one more top forward to our squad, and I was hoping we might get Torres. Now I’m thinking, if Wenger is going to be how he usually is in the transfer market, we haven’t got a hope of beating Chelsea and I wonder if Wenger has come to terms that we are no longer title contenders? Because I havent. If Wenger doesn’t sign at least one more big name I really do think we haven’t got a chance. Sorry to be so negative but if we came 4th last season, now this season we have no Bergkamp, no Pires and no Campbell but with Rosicky it’s really not a huge increase in talent. Hopefully Wenger will make a couple of signings and sort things out, but we have to hope.

One player we are being strongly linked with is Gigi Buffon, I really think if we had him and Jens we would be so much more confident at the back. However he want’s to stay in Serie A with a move to Milan looking likely. There is a strong posibility of him coming to England but we’d have to beat Man U to him. Also something that I didn’t personally want to hear is Wenger giving another reason not to sign someone, he says we wont be buying any Juve players as their wages are too high.

World Cup winner Pirlo of AC milan is looking to move away from Italy with Spain his preffered destination. Also I’m not sure if Wenger will want to buy him, he’ll have high wages too and he’ll probably say we’ve got enough midfielders. I am really getting annnoyed with his lack of signings, its not just this year but every year it the same, but I also think he is the best man in the world for making a signing but it will be for a few years time and not now. We can’t afford to lose more ground on Chelsea and with Liverpool making an effort to get in the mix, I am a worried fan.

The only man at the moment we really look like signing is West Brom’s Curtis Davies, but with him being valued at £10 million by the Baggies it looks unlikely. However he has caught Arsene’s eye.

“We still want to strengthen our squad at the back. We have lost Senderos now for the next three months and we have injuries.Djourou has been injured. Clichy is injured. At the back, if we can find one player who can play centre back, left back, then we are still open. I have not made an inquiry and I have not made a bid but I like Curtis Davies”

If that’s what Wenger was after, it does ask the question why the hell he let Carlos Salcido go to PSV. Arsene really does confuse me. The only explanation is that he has got his eyes on someone else, I do hope so.

Aparantly we are still interested in Ribery and Baptista but that’s probaly complete bollocks as “have enough forward players” now.

I’ve been a bit negative today, what would cheer me up dramtically is a new signing, the sun’s out and I feel good. Maybe today is finally the day.

I went into the game expecting to see goals, what I saw was a 0-0. To be fair it was really our reserve side that we played with only really Alex Hleb who played the first half who would break into our first 11. The return of Jeremie Aliadiere was quite promising, he looked hungry and was a threat to the Barnet defense, his finishing wasn’t 100% and had a few shots hit at the keeper. The 2 Barnet keepers were excellent though, they were under constant attack from the likes of Aliadiere, Bendtner, Lupoli and van den Berg had a few efforts towards the end. He was played out on the right wing and made a few runs cutting inside he looked ok but is definatly one for the future. The game saw a dissallowed goal for each team, our one with an impressive finish by Lupoli, a shame he didn’t time his run as skillfully.

The other new man O’Cearuill had a reliable performance and looked good being paired with Zinedine Cygan at the back. The main thing that stood out for me though was Alex Song. Why-oh-why did Wenger buy him? he was terrible and gave the ball away all the time, and this was against Barnet. I really cannot understand him, he really was terrible. The referee wasn’t brilliant either, I saw countless handballs and there was a blatent push right in front of me in the area, but the referee wasn’t having it, I let him know he was wrong…

To be honest I didn’t really go to see an impressive performance, I wen’t to see Arsenal again, and so did a couple thousand others. The crowd support was quite good, espcially in the “North Bank’ who were quite loud at times, I was sitting in the South Stand which wasn’t a great laugh, I wanted to be up the other end singing. We played in our new kit which looks quite nice I think, I know people have said they don’t like the gold stripes but I do, I think they look quite good and the cannon on the back of the neck is a nice touch.

Overall I thought we weren’t bad, it was a good day out, below is a photo of my view. Next week it’s Dennis’ Testimonial that’s the real one to look forward too.

Not One but Two New Signings 15 July, 2006

Don’t get too exited but yes we have signed two new players. However it’s a 17 year old and a 19 year old to add to he reserves, Wenger does alot of this and maybe in years to come these will be massive players for us. Anyway they are Dutch winger Vincent van den Berg and defender Joe O’Cearuill, I’ve spoken about van den Berg before on the site saying that he was having talks with Arsene and Dennis Bergkamp and had been offered a contract, that was just over a month ago and he has finally signed for us.

I’m personaly quite exited about this player, he played for Heerenveen in the Dutch Eredivisie but has impressed highly at under youth level. At the Fifa Under-17 World Championships in Peru last October he was one of the highest regared players and there were many scouts after him, and I’m glad it’s Arsenal who’ve captured him. There is no doubt he is one for the future but still, we have finally signed another player. The other man is O’Cearuill who we signed from newly promoted Watford, he played for our reserves towards the end of last season and did enough to impress and Arsene offered him a contract. I have added both players to the new squad page which I have also added some details for each player under their thumbnail. The two new youngsters are included in the 19 man squad for the trip to Barnet.

Ashley Cole’s autobiography had just come out in which has has hit out at Arsenal, with a bitter view on the club he ‘loves’. He gave his side on the story of the tapping-up incident with Chelsea.

“Arsenal hung me out to dry, using me as a scapegoat to get back at Chelsea, the board ‘rewarded’ me with an insult and threw years of loyalty back in my face. I’ll reveal the shattering truth about who fed me to the sharks. It changed my view forever on the club I regarded as family. Contract negotiations broke down and as a player I felt betrayed. I was on trial within football and it was Arsenal AND Chelsea versus me. I was fined for holding transfer talks with Chelsea and was synonymous with one of the biggest transfer scandals in soccer. I battle to clear my name and a secret deal keeps me at Arsenal.”

Basically Ashley, just fuck off. So what your saying is Arsenal forced you to go have talks with Chelsea? And then when you did, we were wrong to be upset that you did? Look mate, you’ve got too big for your boots, and Arsenal Football Club doesn’t like those sort of players, fuck off back to Chelsea where you belong. You obviously realise you are one of the best defenders in the world and think you can use that to do anything you like. You used to be one of my favourite players, but you turned into a cunt, I hope you enjoy your new Chelsea pay cheque.

Ok, enough on that, it’s making me angry. The Serie A verdict was released last night and it goes like this:

Juventus: Relegated to Serie B with a 30 point deduction for next season, fined €80,000, 04/05 & 05/06 titles taken away and not allowed in the 06/07 Champions League.

Fiorentina: Relegated to Serie B with a 12 point deduction for next season and not allowed in the 06/07 Champions League.

Lazio: Relegated to Serie B with a 7 point deduction for next season.

AC Milan: Remain in Serie A with a 15 point deduction for next season and not allowed in the 06/07 Champions League.

Haha! I’m not going to go into this in depth but this means a massive finacial loss for every club as not being tin the Champions League alone is about -£30m. Also Juve are going to have to work very hard just to stay in Serie B next season and not get relegated. The start with -30, if they got 70 points in thier campain I would give them 40 points which leaves them about 18th if you compare it with last seasons table. Also AC Milan will have to work hard because now it will be hard for them to even make UEFA cup this season. It makes it very exiting, and it also means we don’t have to face the top Italian clubs in the Champions League. Now there will be a big spending spree for club and however much they try to not sell, they will be forced to as they will desperatly need money.

Arsenal v Barnet Preview

Our first Pre-Season friendly of the summer kicks-off at 3:00 today at Underhill Stadium, home of League 2 side Barnet. I’m going this afternoon as I have done for the past two years, the first time I went it was 10-1 and last year it was 4-1 so I’m expecting to see goals, this year its not a very exiting squad list, the 19 players named are as follows:

Manuel Almunia
Mart Poom
Vito Mannone
Jeremie Aliadiere
Nicklas Bendtner
Matthew Connolly
Pascal Cygan
Mathieu Flamini
Kerrea Gilbert
Justin Hoyte
Alex Hleb
Seb Larsson
Arturo Lupoli
Fabrice Muamba
Joe O’Cearuill
Alexandre Song
Ryan Smith
Anthony Stokes
Vincent van den Berg

The only players I’m really looking forward to seeing are Aliadiere, Hleb and new signing van den Berg. The World Cup meant we couldn’t field a better known side but I suppose the players do need the rest. As for Barnet, well I know fuck all about their side apart from one player who sounds familiar, all I know is it will be a nice, sunny, relaxing afternoon where I will be seeing Arsenal once again, it’s exactly 60 days since our trip to Gay Paris, c’mon the Arsenal!

If you read yesterday I mentioned my brother said they had the new shirt at my local sports shop, well he actually just saw the training shirt, what a waste of time that was. Anyways, have a good day, I’m off to Barnet soon, maybe I’ll see you there?

A fair bit of News…[still no signing] 14 July, 2006

We’ll start at the beggining and Franck Ribery’s agent has strongly denied any talks with Arsene Wenger and insists the player is staying at Marseille. I would mind that too much anyway, we don’t really need him and there are other positions that need filling more; however if Reyes was to leave then he would be an option. They has been no talk about Jose in the Media which either suggests a deal is being done secretly or it’s all just bollocks and he’s staying at Arsenal.

Also we are reportedly interested in West Bromwich Albion’s Curtis Davies. He would be a good replacement for the recently departed Sol Campbell, however Bryan Robson has said he is not for sale and has rejected an offer from Spurs amoungst others. He’s only 21 so has got he best years ahead of him, I think if we did manage to capture him it would be a smart signing also seeing as he’s English would be another reason to bring him in. Even though Robson has said he will not be leaving, it won’t be very hard to get him, Albion aren’t the richest club in the world so any decent offer will have them drooling.

On the subject of West Brom, Theo Walcott’s wild rumour of joining them on loan is complete rubbish and his agent has come out saying he will definatly be at Ashburton Grove for this season. It was suggested that we would give Theo to them for a year if they would sell us Curtis Davis, sounds a reasonable proposition but Arsenal Do not want to let Theo go, hopefully it’s because we’re going to give him a chance this year.

A brand new player Arsenal are being linked with is Franco Semioli the Chievo. We have aparantly been watching him since he left Inter Milan and have now offered £5.5m for him. I know nothing about him but aparantly he plays out on the flanks. However he has a strong desire to stay in Italy and wants to play for Roma:

“They are my first choice for the way they play and the importance of the club,”

Talking of Italy, we are due to find out the verdict of the match-fixing scandal in Serie A and find out if/who will be relegated. The proposed time is 7:00pm local, I will talk about what happens tommorrow. After this there will be a massive spending spree for clubs like how women flock to the January sales, it’s going to be mad. However, some players have pledged to stay at thier respective clubs despite this.

Tommorrow I’m finally going to see my beloved Arsenal in the first pre-season fixture of the summer: Barnet v Arsenal. I will have a match preview of this tommorrow and we might be up against some familiar names.

And finally Johan Djourou has been allocated the no.20 shirt, again this was confirmed by the Arsenal Shop. Also our new home new shirt is aparantly out a my local sports shop, I know it’s not meant to be out yet but my brother saw it in a different branch in Watford and this shop has done this sort of this before. When the new England shirt came out they released it a week before it was meant to, so now I’m off to go see if they actually have it, see ya!

Two New Number Changes 12 July, 2006

There has been more number changes once again released by the Arsenal Shop. Kolo Toure has switched from number 28 to 5, and Philippe Senderos has gone from 20 to 6. Both players old numbers were not a reflection of thier importance to the team and have been given the choice of a new, lower one for the new era at Ashburton Grove. Also, I have said before that Fabregas has changed down to no.4 replacing PV but he chose it because of his hero, Pep Guardiola. Also our new signing Rosicky has taken no.7, you can see all these changes on the squad page.

Not much real news to report on, Arsene Wenger has hit back at rumours that Fabregas is off to Madrid and said he’s not going anywhere. He said he’s an important part of the team and will be ignoring any offers we get for him. Also Newcastle have entered the race for Saviola who I really is a strong posibility of our next signing. He is in London at the moment, and his agent has said it is most likely he’ll be with Arsenal next season that anyone else. Not so long ago, Cristiano Ronaldo not suprisingly said he wanted to leave Man U and avoid a severe beating from Rooney, but Man U have just come out saying they won’t let him leave and go to Real Madrid. Also whist looking through the Man Utd News I saw this fantastic headline for Paul ‘Ginger’ Scholes. Brilliant.

Right, have a good day, keep checking the Arsenal Shop as new numbers are being released all over the place. Have a good day.

Yes because of the alphabet we are indeed 1st in the Premiership, and to celebrate this I’ve added new pages for The Cannon, you can get to them by clicking on the tabs above, they are:

Squad – (www.the-cannon.com/squad)
On this page is the full squad list, at the moment it has all the players pictures, numbers and national flags. Soon I will add players that are out on loan, and all the coaching staff. Also I will write a small paragraph under each profile about the player and his stats. since joining Arsenal.

Fixtures/Results – (www.the-cannon.com/fixturesresults)
This page has the full fixture list for 2006 to 2007 season including Champions League, Friendlies, Premiership and all Cup Competitions. At the moment it’s not completely acurate because the fixtures have only just recently been announced but I will keep it up to date regularly, also I will be filling in the scores as the season progresses. So if you ever want to find out a score, just go to www.the-cannon.com/fixturesresults.

Tables – (www.the-cannon.com/tables)
I have last seasons Premiership table on this page along with this seasons. I will update the table as soon as I possibly can but I will keep a note underneath saying when it was last updated so that you know whether or not it’s correct for when you visit it.

The Club – (www.the-cannon.com/the-club/)
Last but not least is ‘The Club’ page, here you have lots of records of Arsenal FC, with dates, scores, names, attendances and more. I will have to keep updating this one too as there are things on it that will still be changing like ‘Most Goals’, ‘Highest Ashburton Grove Attendance’ and others, so keep an eye on it.

I’m thinking I might add a couple more pages, maybe one about the site and one with the kits or something, so look out for that. But it wont be untill I’ve sorted out sthe Squad page and stuff first.

Ok, the news. A signing does seem to be looming as I said yesterday 50% of Stephan Appiah is coming to Arsenal, he hasn’t yet revealed where the rest of him is going yet. Also if Juve get relegated Gigi Buffon will look to make a move, he says some Italian clubs are interested, but he says there is an option in England which is not Chelsea. To be honest with you, I think he’ll end up and Man Utd, I don’t want him to because he really is an amazing goalkeeper but I think he will. Ribery has also spoken of his admiration of Arsenal and would like to come to North London and win tropheys. And if you remember, Saviola is being linked with a move to Ashburton Grove too. So there is plently of transfer speculation around, and the ‘Second Signing of The Summer Revealed’ title looks on the horizon, I think something might be announced this week or next.

If you remember I spoke about a possible loan move for Nicklas Bendtner to Rangers, but the latest news on that is Arsenal don’t want him to go to Scotland for some reason, and would rather keep him. There is the possibility that Arsene wants to give him a push up to the 1st team squad, but I’d prefer if that waited for a bit and he gave young Theo a chance who’s already proved he can make it on the big stage with Southampton.

Right, I’m off to buy my Dennis Bergkamp testimonial ticket, have a good day, make sure you visit the new pages.
