West Ham 1-0 Arsenal – 05/11/06 – (Barclays Premiership) 5 November, 2006

For Fucks sake. Can’t believe what is happening to Arsenal at the moment, the past three games we just haven’t been able to score. Especially this game and the last we’ve had great chances to score but we’re just not putting it away. West Ham scored in the last minute of the game from some sloppy defending, apart from that our defence were great and made some excellent tackles. The only other mistake was Toure slipping and forcing another one-on-one on Lehmann who once again saved it. West Ham’s defence were good too, we couldn’t find a decent opening. The best chance was with Rosicky again who was set up beautifully by Henry but he was being closed down by two West Ham defenders and was forced to shoot outside of the box and of course, it went wide.

In the second half Hleb was denied a perfect penalty, some clever link up play with Henry but had his legs taken away in the box. A clear-cut penalty, I don’t see why the ref didn’t give it. Argh, I can’t talk about this game. I can’t remember the last time I’ve been so angry over football. In Paris I was just sad and wondering what could’ve been, not angry. And I know this was just one game in the Premiership; but it was against West Ham, West Ham. They’ve been doing so crap this season but they beat us. I think we have the worst luck in the world, nothing goes our way.

The only time I thought we’d scored in the game was Toure’s long-range effort. The ball was played across to him and I knew exactly what he was going to do. It beat Robert Green and was swerving into the bottom corner but just went inches wide but I thought it’d gone in as it rippled the side netting. What a goal it would’ve been though. Toure’s been unleashing alot of these shots recently; I think it’s only a matter of time before he nets a screamer.

We didn’t play badly, for the last quarter of the game it was a bit dire but for the rest of it we played okay. Not as good as I thought we might, before the game I had a good feeling and I thought we’d play some great football and knock a few past West Ham. I just don’t understand why things aren’t going our way. It was such a frustrating game to watch and I’m sure there will be loads of talk about the fireworks between Wenger and Pardew but if I was Arsene, I’d have done exactly that, I don’t blame him one bit.

Next game is Everton away in the Carling cup, will we win? who knows… Bye

You get the feeling the wind has been taken out of their sails after playing brilliantly yet missing so often against the russians. As for luck, I’m just glad we’ve got more of it overall than the spuds.

2. Justin - 5 November, 2006

but hey, at least chelsea lost

3. lasagnechef - 5 November, 2006

…but spurs won. I suppose Chelsea losing is what we needed.

I can’t believe how much of a contrast it is now as apposed to that time from the Man Utd win to the Reading win. Such a radical change in such a short space of time.

4. aussiegooner - 6 November, 2006

the team was too complacent. many of the players were lazy, in fact.. rvp and henry for starters. passes went wide and that was shocking, that miss from rosicky. we need that same hunger from that unbeaten season.

when adebayor, baptista and diaby etc. return to fitness hopefully the players would have the motivation to work harder for their first team place.

5. Justin - 6 November, 2006

does it matter if sp*** beat chelsea? I mean sp*** wont do shite this and every year where as chelsea are one of our main contenders so the way i see it i’d root for sp**** over the russion cunts anyday

6. Clock End Gooner - 6 November, 2006

It’s true, that the result isn’t THAT bad, considering that the Chavski scum lost, and we all know that Man Yoo can slip up again, but by the time that happens, will we have sorted our act out, or will we keep showing flashes of genious, but be way too inconsistant!
The boys need us, more than ever now!
Sunday, is the 1st big, BIG game at the Grove! Lets make it, one to remember! COME ON, YOU FUCKING RIP ROARING GOONERS!!!

7. Justin - 6 November, 2006

I really agree with what was said in Arsenal-Mania today. Wenger really needs to give players who arent performing abit of stick now and then. Even Henry is human (hard to believe) and needs reminding that he is captain and needs to play harder than anyone else on the team and i feel he should be big enough to say that he should be taken out when he feels someone like Ade or Ali even can do a better job when the situation arises….

8. I-8-YIDS - 6 November, 2006

Anyone here how wanted the yids to win over Chelski is a tosser who doesn’t deserve to wear our shirt. Get real we are not going to win the league because we are not good enough. That is not to say we are sh*t or anything like that, in fact I am a firm believer that we are the best team in Europe on our day. But these days are not frequent enough and we dont have a plan B. Justin I agree with you and Arsenal Mania the players do need a kick up the backside. As for the report here?? What a load of rubbish. You are everything I hate in Arsenal fans. Can’t you just accept we lost fair and square? It was NOT a penalty Spector got some of the ball. We were not hard done by we just lost. It happens get over it. As for the west ham, WEST HAM but.. they are a good team you d*ck. They had a had start but they hav sorted it now and will rise in the table mark my words. A draw would not have been a bad result at all. But no you have to take it like the world is ending. And you should blame Arsene for what he did. He embarresed me by not shaking Pardew’s hand and I cannot defend him against the countless West Ham fans I know because he should not have done it. I only hope we get some kind of bunker mentality from this and start grinding out results week after week. No doubt when we start that again I will have to watch some poxy international games for 2 weeks.

9. lasagnechef - 6 November, 2006

I wrote that right after the game, I wouldn’t believe you if you said you were not angrry and fustrated after the game. I know West Ham aren’t a bad side, otherwise they wouldn’t have beaten us. In future I’m not going to write reports straight after a game as the emotions from it don’t allow me to see what actually happened. If I waited and was going to write something now then it would’ve been much different.

I can accept we lost, but a side which is meant to be rivaling the likes of Man Utd and Chelsea, we cannot keep dropping points as we are. I will not accept that it wasn’t a penalty though, from what I’ve seen it’s a clear decision.

Yes Wenger should’ve shook Pardew’s hand but I don’t blame him for squaring up to him. If you were Wenger at that moment of time and Pardew was doing that to you, you wouldn’t have just stood there and let him.

You must agree though that we shouldn’t be losing to sides like West Ham. Realisticly we probably wont win the Premiership but we have to be up there pressuring them all the way.

10. I-8-YIDS - 6 November, 2006

A more reasoned post! I didnt mention that Pardew should not have laid a finger on Wenger. That was the catalyst for the pushing and shoving and for that I think Wenger was in his rights to shove him off. But he should have shaken hands, if only for the cameras. We should be beating West Ham you are right but they defended brilliantly yesterday and these things happen when you are a bigger club. Gabbidon will not perfom like that next week, he was awesome. I really want to see Baptista come back so we can ruffle a few feathers. And (it may have been a fitness issue of course) I think Adebayor should always start. I have to admit I criticised his first few games but he has really impressed me lately. Van Persie should not play wide left. Trouble is I want both Fabregas and Rosicky in the team and to get the best of them you need them in the middle. This means Gilberto must play and therefore a 4-5-1 is necessary. I really think Ribery would be a good addition. As much as I think RVP is exceptionally talented I would not be too sad to see him go. All this nonesense about Thierry Henry is annoying me, he is still top goal scorer for the club and he still created the best chance we had yesterday. I just wish all the players could take losing like Gallas. He is the one who will be looking at himself instead of blaming other people and officials. I sense you will not budge on the penalty issue but neither will I. There is no way it could have been given.

11. lasagnechef - 6 November, 2006

Maybe you’ve seen a different angle than me.

To be honest I think Thierry improved yesterday, in the previous games hes looked not bothered but yesterday I thought he was much better and he put through Rosicky for that miss and all provided the inch perfect ball for Hleb when he was tackled in the area. He is a vital player for Arsenal.

12. Justin - 6 November, 2006

I can’t understand why RVP isnt playing on the right like he is for Holland. I mean isn’t the left Henry’s favoured position? So why not play the 4-4-2 with Henry upfront on the left and RVP withdrawn to the right?

13. lasagnechef - 6 November, 2006

I don’t understand either. I don’t really see why he’s on the wing anyway. Our strikers are allowed the freedom to go over to the wings anyway so why not start them as two strikers.

14. Justin - 6 November, 2006

Yea and also people have been sayin how baptista could play in the middle with Gilberto. Cant see how thats gonna work. Im no expert but i dont think his passing is half as good as Cesc’s and with Gilberto’s “passing” our main supply line would be gone unless either Rosicky or Hleb takes over but yeah dont think thats gonna work out

15. lasagnechef - 6 November, 2006

I hope the beast will become an out and out striker that doesn’t go out to the wing and can just put the ball in the back of the net. Hopefully he’ll play just behind Henry and Thierry can run out to the wings if need be but Baptista will be there in the middle for any balls that are crossed in.

16. Justin - 6 November, 2006

yeah.. I just want us to win something this year… or maybe i should follow the Ladies team instead they’re going pretty good haha

17. lasagnechef - 6 November, 2006

So do you want us to put a strong team out against Everton? I reckon we should go like this:

Almunia
Connolly Senderos Djourou Hoyte
Walcott Denilson Song Randall
Aliadiere Adebayor

Quite a strong team but if need be we could field a completely changed lineup at the weekend.

18. gunner8 - 6 November, 2006

———————–Almunia———————-
Eboue———Senderos———-Djourou———Clichy
Flamini——–Denilson————Song———Walcott
————-Aliardiere———-Adebayor————

I think Eboue will play (as he was in the squad on Sunday) and that Clichy will start to keep building his fitness… …Flamini seems to be back in AW’s good books, although he will fill in on the right with Walcott on the left.

19. lasagnechef - 6 November, 2006

I thought that Eboue & Clichy might be rested for Liverpool

20. Justin - 6 November, 2006

I reckon Traore should get a run out maybe switch with clichy after a half? Yeah the rest of the team is about what i’d expect although dont think flamini will be played on the right… may be O’Caroll (no idea how to spell his name) or Jay Simpson could be played there

21. Justin - 6 November, 2006

oh wait.. what about Merida? Would love to see more of this kid

22. gunner8 - 6 November, 2006

O’Ceurrill is a defendah, flimflam could be on the right, Randall will feature, but I don’t think AW will rest Eboue, he’s had 3 weeks off and Clichy could use the practice… …but hey if we were really in AW’s shoes would we be chatting online, no we would be busy watching some match in Afganistan or something

23. Derby Preview: Lets smash ‘em « The Cannon - 27 April, 2008
