Just some news and stuff 15 January, 2007

There are no new stories today as we’ve got an unusual midweek break from football. The players and coaching staff will appreciate this break but it mean there is no news for me. There’s a little bit and it’s all old and crap, but I’ll give it to you anyway.

Steve Bruce has said he’s like to sign Muamba permanently. Fabrice is currently on loan but Birmingham are keen to keep him for longer than the end of the season. He’s thought of as the new Paddy Vieira and he’s a bit of a hard nut, I’d want him to stay at Arsenal but with the other young midfielders coming through you’d wonder if we’d actually need him. We’ve got Diaby, Fabregas, Merida, Denilson and more who all look like they’re going to be top players one day. I’d like Muamba to stay but I’ll understand if he’s allowed to leave.

Jose Reyes is still upset about only getting 5 minutes in last years Champions League Final. Well the reason you didn’t is because you weren’t good enough or you’d just roll around on the floor. Reading this story I started thinking about Paris and was looking at photos and stuff, it made me pretty sad and then I took it to the next level and started to watch the highlights on youtube. It was torture and all I could manage was up to Sol’s goal, then I switched it off. It made me proud to be a Gooner but very depressed. Hopefully we’ll be all off to Athens to right those wrongs.

Reyes and Fab

On Saturday Tugay stamped on Cesc’s ankle and he was forced off with his foot wrapped in ice. There were fears that he’d miss the game against Man United along with Gilberto but it looks like he’ll make it. It was a bad challenge and we might’ve been in a bit of trouble if we had both of our centre midfielders out of Sunday’s big game. Here’s what he had to say:

“It’s a bit painful, but I’ll be alright as I’ll have a week to rest. I’m sure I’ll be able to play. It won’t be a problem if the boss wants to play me.”

It looks like it’ll be Flamini and Cesc in the middle against Man U and they’ll need to be on top form to get a result like we did up at their place. It’s bad news that Gilberto is suspended for this one but we’ve got plenty of players who can play his position. Diaby would be my choice but I don’t think he’s fully fit yet and I’m pretty confident that Wenger will go with Flamini. There’s also the option on putting RVP out wide and moving Rosicky more central, it’s going to be interesting to see what Arsene does go for but still I’d feel more confident with the Brazilian. It was a silly red card but Arsene says he’s not going to appeal. He’s right, although it probably wasn’t worth a sending off he did stick out his leg at Savage and that decides it. If the ref had any common sense he’d of given a yellow but if you compare the challenge to the rulebook then it’s a straight red.

Gilberto's Red

Last week Wenger announced that our right-back Lauren will be allowed to leave the club this transfer window. There’s no more news on that but I expect he’s in talks with clubs at the moment. I’ll bring you news on that when I get it. Happy Monday.

No way Wenger will let Muamba leave. It’s not often you get the chance to have a former president of Congo on your books. I urge the whole squad to keep an eye open for FBI-sponsored coups (especially against Bolton).

2. Mike - 15 January, 2007

I’d like to see the following lineup against manusa:
———————Jens————-

Hoyte/Eboue—–Kolo—Gallas/Djourou—-Clichy

Hleb———Cesc——Flamini—–Rosicky

—————–Baptista——————
———————-Henry—————-

Can be played as a 4-4-2, 4-1-4-1, 4-5-1, 4-3-3, whatever the situation requires. I thought Aliadiare played in a very similar manner to TH against Pool, so I am dying to see Bap partnered with TH, I think it could be devastating, added to the fact that Baptista goes back into the midfield very often, thus buying us an extra body there as well.

3. John - 15 January, 2007

Gallas won’t be back and in any case, Senderos deserves to keep his place, as does Hoyte. Same goes for Baptista and Van Persie, the latter deserves to keep his place. We’re ye to see at Arsenal how capable Baptitsa is at tracking back into midfield as an extra body and I don’t think this is the game to find out. It’s a shame Diaby won’t be ready for this one but Flamini has done really well in the big games this season, disrupting the passing and tempo of the opposition. Same team as Saturday except Flam in for Silva. The big eejit.

4. DeiseGooner - 15 January, 2007

Wenger confirmed on the official site that Muamba and Bentdner will be back after their loan spells end at the end of this season

5. nuuradiin - 15 January, 2007

lucky- my idea
lehman

eboue toure galas/d.jourou clichy

hlep fabrecas flamini rocisky

henry

adebayor

6. DeiseGooner - 15 January, 2007

The 3 of Cesc Rosicky and Hleb have shown against blackburn that they can put the foot in to good effect. So add either Flamster or Diaby if he is physically ready and the midfield should be fine. Henry will start obviously and i think VanP deserves a start too. Those 2 will cause any defence in the world problems and should be able to win the game for us. Ronaldo on current form will be more than dangerous against either Eboue or Hoyte so i expect a lot of tracking back from Hleb to make sure the left back isnt exposed.

Mad Jens
Hoyte Toure Senderos Clichy
Hleb Cesc Flamini/Diaby ? Rosicky
VanP Henry

subs: Almunia, Eboue, Djouru, Baptista, Ade

7. John - 15 January, 2007

Nuuradiin… Again… Gallas is INJURED. Likely to be another fortnight out. And why should Senderos be dropped for Djourou – or even Gallas if he were fit? He’s in excellent form and Sunday will be a good test for him.

Same goes for Eboue… why should he come back in when Hoyte is playing well? I could understand if Hoyte didn’t look good enough but he is playing pretty well and deserves to keep playing.

And again… why change the team to being in Adebayor over Van Persie? Theirry and Robin have gone on a nice run together with 5 goals between them in 3 matches, not to mention assists

There is no need to change a winning team, especially when we are winning this well and have a week’s break before United. Some players will have to wait until the FA Cup/Carling Cup/injuries to stake their claim.

8. John - 15 January, 2007

I think we will be OK with Ronaldo. In the games I’ve seen him in this year, he struggles to be effective for long spells. Of course all he needs is one second but I feel quick full backs tend to neutralise him. Cashley always has him in his pocket for instance. Hoyte or Eboue have what it takes to stay close to him. It is a big job for Hleb and Rosicky to cover their wings, but the same goes for the likes of Ronaldo and he ain’t much of a defender. I am confident.

9. Justin - 15 January, 2007

yeah John’s right. Our current team is well good enough to be changed. Yup Senderos is almost back to his best and should keep his place. I would like to see Adebayor play though… I reckon his physical presence would give manure abit more of a problem then RVP. Maybe Robin coming in as a super sub.. giving us more pace when they tire?

10. Gunner8 - 15 January, 2007

I agree with most, but I would play this;

——–Lehmann
Hoyte, Toure, Senderos, Clichy
Hleb, Fab 4, Flamini, Rosicky
——-Beast, TH14
subs; Almunia, Djourou, Diaby, RvP, Adebayor

I think that everyone should keep their place… …but Baptista deserves to start with the full first team and RvP should come on as a sub

if he plays instead of the beast, no matter I think we have enough against

———-vandersaar
neville, ferdinand, vidic, evra
ronaldo, carrick, scholes, giggs
——-rooney, laarson

GK EVEN
RB mu
CB ARSENAL
CB ARSENAL
LB ARSENAL
RM EVEN
CM ARSENAL
CM mu
LM EVEN
S mu
S ARSENAL

11. lasagnechef - 15 January, 2007

Personnaly I’d like to see the Beast alongside Henry but I understand completely every reason to play RVP. However Julio wont make an aimpact from the bench whereas Robin would. I say start Bap with Titi and bring Robin on if need be.

12. Gunner8 - 15 January, 2007

what do you think of the manure line-up then Chef, pretty accurate, no?

13. lasagnechef - 15 January, 2007

I dunno who’s on form/their injuries situations or anything so I wouldn’t know but that looks like the one. I know Rooney’s not been at his best and Ronaldo is on fire but other than that, haven’t got a clue. Larsson’s scored a couple already and hopefully we’ll stop him from scoring more and punish him for what he did in Paris.

14. romfordgooner - 15 January, 2007

hey mate, hows it going?

You going to spurs away next week?

Rumour has it that they are giving us 7,000 tickets.

Never been to Shite hart lane, hopefully I’l get tickets, im also going to Boro away on the 3rd but nobody fancies going with me.

I liked your point about Gallas being 2 weeks away for ever and ever.
Its a shame though.

15. lasagnechef - 15 January, 2007

Yeah not bad son. Hope to be going to WHL, never been also; I’ve been checking arsenal.com every few hours to see if they’ve got ticket info up. Dunno when they’ll come out/how many we’ll get/how much/how many credits I’ll need. Would love to go though. Bolton tickets come out 2mo morning.

Rooney has not been consistent in front of goal this season. His 8 goals came in just 4 matches, the last of which was ages ago. The downside of that is he might be due a few! He also has half a dozen assists. But with Saha probably out and at best starting on the bench, I feel they are without an out and out striker with Rooney and Larsson seeming to play others in. They’ve been like us, spreading the goals throughout the team. Hence Ronaldo and Scholes have been vital for them. But if Flamini can be at his tenacious best (ugly, unglamorous yet effective!) then he can snuff out Scholes. Ronaldo is most limited when playing athletic fullbacks and I think ours, with support from our wingers, can curtail him. The flip-side is, Ronaldo can do fuck all to defend against us while in Scholes and Carrick they have nobody capable of cancelling out Fabregas. Carrick might get dropped for an O’Shea or Fletcher but methinks Fab could handle any of them without too much worry.

Even when we win on Sunday, the league will be most likely too far away. Curses on the untimely combination of injuries, youth and a new stadium! They’re all contributed in some way to our inconsistency but we have real momentum going now. This side will be… nae… is amazing. The depth, average age, and raw ability… it’s superior to any of the other sides. I believe our first XI is better than United’s and our bench is too. Next season, if we master consistency, we’ll finish above them and Chelsea, who can’t even handle 3 fucking injuries without melting down on and off the pitch.

Look at United’s bench… Solskjaer is very useful but in his dying days. O’Shea and Fletcher – the word mediocre flatters them. Heinze seems to be looking for an exit clause (although he is a quality player). Larsson is there at best til May, while Neville, Scholes and Giggs are into their twilight years. They have a huge number of players to replace. We do not. When they have to restructure, we’ll have an excellent batch of players who will have been playing and winning together for a few years with yet more talent coming through.

Can’t see Big Baps starting. He’ll get 3 chances after United, against Spurs twice and Bolton too. Few goals there and we have a great selection headache! He actually did brilliantly as an impact sub at Old Trafford earlier in the season…

An article from today’s Guardian also going on about Arsenal’s bright future compared to other squads. The same lad who wrote this though also said Benitez would batter Arsenal’s ‘brittle beauty’ in the FA Cup and then when that didn’t happen, wrote an entire article about where Benitez had gotten the whole damn thing wrong. So now he tells us great we are again…
