Is Justin Hoyte the new Ashley Cole? 13 February, 2007

Yesterday Justin Hoyte spoke to Arsenal.com about how he’s just an Arsenal fan on the inside. Justin revealed he’s supported Arsenal all his life and it’s always been his dream to play for the Gunners. He joined when he was just 10 and has made 12 appearances at Ashburton Grove this season. With Lauren’s departure, Justin now has the chance to prove himself and push for places at Arsenal, and indeed England. This is what Justin had to say:
“I love the Club and my dream has always been to play for Arsenal. I’ve always supported Arsenal, ever since I was a young kid, and I am still a supporter through and through. I even sing the songs when I’m sitting there watching in Emirates Stadium. When I’m not playing I always sing and cheer with the supporters. I actually really enjoy sitting with the fans and spurring the lads on. It’s a great feeling if you get the opportunity to step out and you feel something magical inside. It’s a feeling that you’ll never feel again. Emirates Stadium is home for us now really. Playing there is fantastic.”
Nice words from Justin but one thing struck me – I couldn’t help but think this sounds exactly like Ashley Cole. A good, English up and coming full-back who’s been a Gooner all their life, joining the team at a young age and desperate to play for the team. You’d never think that Justin would become a money-grabbing twat like Cole but you wouldn’t have thought that about Ashley in the early career at Arsenal. Surely Hoyte won’t turn out like that but it all does sounds extremely similar to Ashley Cole. I think Hoyte’s got it all ahead of him at Arsenal and I believe he’ll be a massive player for club and country in the future. I know he is one who likes his cars and to go out and party etc but let’s just hope the footballer’s lifestyle doesn’t control him.
Barcelona’s Samuel Eto’o has admitted his admiration of Arsene Wenger had revealed he had the chance to join before Barca. Back in 2004 he chose to stay in Spain rather than join up with Thierry Henry and Patrick Vieira. Could you imagine if we had the partnership of Eto’o and Henry? It’s a mouth-watering prospect and you can see why the Catalans were so keen to get Thierry in the summer. This is what Samuel had to say:
“I love Arsene Wenger, he is one of the best coaches in the world. I could have played for Arsenal some years ago, I would have loved to have had Arsene Wenger as my coach. In the end I am at Barca and I am proud to wear that shirt. If Titi would have come to Barcelona, people would have seen how two real friends have fun in a stadium. I dreamt about that, to be a partner with him in attack. Titi chose to stay in England and I am happy for his coach, but…”
It’s clear that he too wanted to link up with our star man and it would’ve been interesting to see. I think it was last year; Eto’o and Henry were 2nd and 3rd respectively in the World Player of the Year Award.

Thierry Henry has been speaking about Theo Walcott this week with doubts over the youngster’s form. Titi has said he just needs time and we the fans must be patient. Henry also said that at 17 he went through a bad patch and it just happens. Most 17-year-olds at Arsenal would be just emerging into the reserve side never mind starting regularly for the 1st team. I am not bothered about Theo’s form, I’m sure that in time he’ll find his feet and reach great heights.
Robert Pires has bought a Highbury flat to join the likes of Mr. Wenger and Dennis Bergkamp. Bobby has been speaking a lot recently about how he left Arsenal because he was subbed off in Paris, but that’s over and most Gooners’ still have a warm feeling towards Pires. It’s nice to think that he still feels apart of this club and he’s spoken about his fond memories of Highbury and that final day against Wigan. Click the link; it’s a nice read.

And finally: I’m on my way, I’m on my way, I’m going to Cardiff, I’m on my way. How I get there I don’t know, how I get there I don’t care, all I know is I am on my way. Yesterday I got my tickets for the Carling Cup Final at the Millennium Stadium. I’m sitting 3rd row I think, lower tier, sort of in the corner I think. To be honest I don’t really care where I’m sitting, it’s all a bit of fun to be honest. We’ve got nothing to lose and God knows how our kids will play against the Chelsea 1st team. I have no idea how I’m going to get there yet, but I don’t care – I’m on my way.
Have a good day.

i think it is wrong to compare hoyte with cole or anybody for that matter. whatever will become of hoyte will be but we should plant the seeds now and keep a space for ” i told you so”
I think hoyte’s great, I might even stretch to say I prefer him to Eboue. I hope he doesn’t turn out like that scumbag cole though. Cant wait for 29,000 gooners singing ‘one man went to bed’ in Cardiff
No he isn’t the new cole – he can put together a sentence and doesn’t look like a money grabbing twat (yet)
HOnestly, hoyte is not as good a fullback as cole
http://www.arsenal-view.blogspot.com/
Well i would have to say no. He hasn’t hit the playing standards Cole set with us as yet (not sure if he will either, i certainly hope so) And he seems like an intelligent chap who would have seen how vilified Cole has become to those fans that worshiped him, so i can see him doing a “Cole” ! Only time will tell.
No comparison between Cole & Hoyte, as Cole is 5 times the player. Hoyte is a poor defender and has never impressed me, it would be nice if one day he could cut out a cross – I thought that part of his job description.
Still, he has a much nicer character than that diving cheat Eboue – who makes me sick, but having a nice characters with very limited footballing abilities won’t win us trophies.
I look forward to the day Hoyte leaves and is replaced with a defender who can defend; for me, he’s just another young English player who will never cut it.
What we need is a clone of Clichy but right footed. The lad has the right mentality and attitude coupled with a lot of ability. And he can get better with experience.
Cole might be better than Hoyte but Clichy is better than Cole by far. All what Cole did, Clichy is doing it better and more more neatly. He is quicker, better tackler and doesn’t give away stupid freekicks. He is a better dribbler and I can go on and on…I don’t know why he did get benched when Cole was at Arsenal. Cole we do not miss you at all. Our left hand side is now the strongest in the premiership. Clichy and Tomas, I love that partnership.
Eboue and Hleb was doing nicely too untill Eboues attitude and tendency to fall about the place put a halt to it. Hopefully his absence from the starting lineup will make him change that and come back, get his head down and make RB his own.
Clichy is looking very very decent indeed. Almost always looks like one of our most lively players on the pitch. His dribbling is surprisingly neat and impressive sometimes on the telly, I have to take a closer look to see if its him or Titi dribbling! His defensive work which in my opinion was a little weak has improved greatly and at Wigan I just couldn’t stop praising the lad. Hoyte… hmm tricky one. Can look good one day and absolutely rubbish the next. I guess quality’s there and consistency will come… Jury’s still out on the lad but that said his defending is miles better than Eboue’s and yeah Deisegooner is right. I don’t really remember Eboue doing all his shit last season as frequently and when he cut that out he looked like quality. This season, apart from a couple of superb crosses, he has made a mockery of the position he plays in. I really would like to see Cesc given a rest. I reckon Denilson would be an adequate replacement for him…
Arsenal will beat Bolton tomorrow. Hleb is back and our RHS will be very strong. Bolton had their chance at Emirate and with Arsenal’s new attitude, I think it will be Big Sam that will be doing the complainning. Hmmmmmm Arsenal were… Then he will get fined.
Arsenal have changed since this beginning of the year. They are fighting against the so called bottom team and are showing more believe. Even if Arsenal go down 1-0 tomorrow, we will still win. Henry will be rested so it will be Baptista and Adebayor that plays tomorrow. Ljunberg is back but I think he will start on the bench. I want him to get on with the game after he has given the referee his opinion.
My prediction is 0-3 to Arsenal. Reebok fans be ready to go home quickly…….
Agree, DeiseGooner. The Eboue Hleb partnership was creating nightmares for defences – far more than the left side we were used to – until injuries struck and Eboue then went off the boil.
Hoyte grew up in a different environment than Cole. Not to say that your environment makes you, but it does shape you to some extent.
Cesc cannot be rested against Bolton. He will get a week rest after this game. Their next game is in the CL next week.
Cesc cannot be rested not tomorrow. As good as Denilson is, tomorrow’s game will need most players who will be ready to fight tomorrow and Cesc will be up for that. I thought he was resting himself in the last game.
Tomorrow Cesc will run the game, you heard it here first. Then PSV next.
Well in lasagnechef.
Justin Hoyte is nothing like Ashley Cole – for a start JH is from a sporting background, both his parents were Athletes and his Dad still does work with Arsenal’s Academy. AC on the other hand was bought up on a lousy East London council estate (not that I am saying that is a bad thing in some respects) and AC clearly but fame and fortune before everything, including loyalty. Justin Hoyte is a very down to earth, loyal and honest person – everything AC isn’t.
I don’t linke football, sorry
I really rate Hoyte and I don’t understand why Gooners would want to insult him so much by suggesting he’s anything like Cashley; I mean what has he ever done to deserve such a libel? Good luck, Justin, if you keep improving like you have, you’ll be the next Lee Dixon only better.
Gio, if we win the next match will be against Blackburn on saturday.
Glo, Are you saying that we’re going out the cup tonight? Are next game will be Blackburn at home in the cup not PSV.
Regarding Hoyte he’s not as good as AC or Eboue but is a good backup. Whether he is loyal, that can only be tested when he has some success and get picks for England but not Arsenal. He will want a pay increase and games.
can’t believe hoyte is getting any praise – he’s put in some terrible performances this season, not least against wigan, where he was so poor, getting beaten regularly, crosses coming over all the time, not covering properly – for someone of his age and who has relevant experience now, he’s not good enough for arsenal – maybe another prem team, but not one that is challenging for titles/trophies.
eboue – his attitude apart, has not been that bad. he’s had a bad time with injuries, but to say hoyte is better defensively is a joke. its only becuase eboue is such a good offensive player that his defensive work is overlooked. i think in the long run, eboue is going to be a way better player than hoyte, and i personally hope kerrea gilbert is kept on and becomes understudy to him, because he already looks a much better rb than hoyte.
You have to remember that when Cole came into the team first, Arsenal had a fairly solid back four, with Keown & Campbell AND Vieira and Petit protecting the back four. It was, initially, his pace that got him out of trouble. but he progressed well and eventually turned into a great full-back. So, eventhough I am still unsure about Hoyte’s quality, i still think he should be given a chance!!
Good article lasagnechef. Who knows what the lure of money can do to a player…only time will tell. At the end of the day as SWP knows there is only space for 11 players in the first team at any club, and as SWP sits on the bench with a fat wallet at Chelski, his chances of improving as a player on the club and national level are not good. Let’s hope Hoyte seems the mistakes his colleagues have made and sticks with the club that has raised him and the one he “loves”. Cole is money grabbing bi-sexual twat anyway.
With that thought, who knows what will happen to Arsenal in the next decade with news of the billionaire Septic interested in buying the club…
cole is awesome
Hoyte and Cole play completely different positions to be compared.
even if a comparison were to be forced, cashely would take a lead especially with his going forward skills.
Honestly as we talk now, Clichy is the man to be compared with ashley and indeed clichy is now far ahead
long live Wenger for the wise decision to sell off cash
I agree wit h mubiru, I would try and compare Clichy to cole but damn, Cole cannot be compared to Cliche….especially not now….Cliche is the man…he shines on the pitch…Cole deserves to be where he at, with the other hyped-up, money-grabbing, glory-chasing, arrogant so and so and so…lol…Arsenal is too much of a respectful team for him to be at….he’s gone and he’s forgotten…
LOVE ARSENAL…
