Clichy missed the start of the season but that was in recovery from a long-term injury. It is curious the way a lot of Arsenal players pick up little niggling injuries but there is no evidence to suggest it’s down to medical or fitness practices.

My problem with Gallas is that I don’t see him as a genuine Arsenal player yet. He’s a quality player but when I see him in the shirt, I always think ‘oh yeah… he’s with us!’. The injury didn’t help that. But he is a mouthy kinda guy – he was always moaning at Chelsea. Thus to have a guy who is not really established here moaning about it all, well it’s a little unusual and I can see why it pisses people off. In any case he states the obvious… young players have to improve. Well DUH. Then again, why didn’t he mark Alex at that corner kick rather than Diaby since he’s so big on taking responsibility… I noticed he was willing to mark Carew in the next game so perhaps the lesson was learned.

Three months for a pulled hamstring for Gallas seems like a long time. In Australia, the average for a torn hamstring is six weeks. And it’s not just Gallas. Henry, van Persie, Senderos, Rosicky and Clichy have all missed significant parts of the season. And we had a similar spate of injuries last year. That, more than the inexperience, is what’s really worrying. You can’t say it’s all just bad luck.

And regarding the youngsters, he’s not saying anything that Henry doesn’t say a hundred times a year.
