Takeover / Cesc Talks about Bolton / Henry 12 April, 2007

There’s not really a lot going on in the Arsenal world at the moment. I suppose most people are hiding under the table for the rest of the season with their fingers in their ears singing la-la-la-la. It’s probably the best thing to do.
The objectives for this season are just to hang on to 4th place and let the people behind the scenes sort it all out in the summer. It’s quite clear there’s a few players that need to leave the club and it’s obvious the areas we are lacking in. I’ll leave that sort of talk until the close season so I actually have something to talk about in a football-barren summer.

Stanley Kroenke is continuing to buy up all the shares he can, he now owns over 11% of Arsenal and everyone’s expecting him to make a real push to take over the club in the summer. Something we should be worried about? Or not? I dunno, depends what sort of takeover it’s going to be. Apparantly he likes to spend money which is good I suppose but I know a lot of Gooners will not be happy if Arsenal is taken over. Not just they wont be happy, but people who’ve been going to Arsenal for decades would stop going if Kroenke took charge.
It’s quite a big issue and I’m sure there will be a lot of talk on it when the season ends. I still don’t really have an opinion on it because I don’t know what his intentions are. Some takeovers turn out really good for the club, money is invested in transfers, better facilities are made and the party taking over the club are just there to take the club forward. However some people are just interested in turning the club into a business and just to make money for themselves. It’s obvious Kroenke is interested in a move for the club and he’s gradually building up his shares. A lot of current shareholders will be keen to cash in but there’s also a large section of shareholders that are completely against a takeover and if they didn’t sell up then Kroenke would be stuck.
We must concentrate on the rest of the season though and next up is a crucial game against Bolton. They’ve become our bogey team in recent years but it’s usually been when we play them away. Saturday’s game is at home where we’ve only lost once this season however that was the last game. Cesc Fabregas has spoken ahead of the game:
“We have to beat Bolton because we have to fight for the fourth place and be in Europe next season, then forget about this season.”
That is such a good quote from Cesc, that’s exactly how everyone feels and that simply how the season must go from here. I don’t even want to think about us not getting in the top 4. Anyway, he goes on to say…
“We cannot fight for anything else, so it is our job to make it. We always try to win. I have never gone into a game without my mentality of trying to win. We fought really hard against West Ham on Saturday and again at Newcastle, so it has been 180 really hard minutes in less than 48 hours. It was a good challenge for us, it is just that the goals do not come.”
He’s right, it’s not as if they didn’t try, it’s just they weren’t good enough and the ball would not go into the net for them. Hopefully we can right those things come Saturday. It’s not going to be an easy match, I’m thinking it’ll be a draw and I suppose that’d do us.

Finally, it’s not the first time we’ve seen this headline before: HENRY: I’M STAYING. Yes the ‘Thierry is leaving’ rumours have started and once again our captain has had to come out saying it’s all a load of bollocks. Titi himself is getting very tired of these claims he will leave in he summer and has suggested walking round London in a t-shirt saying he is staying at Arsenal. Henry is not going. End of. But as long as there are newspapers, there will be rumours.
Right that’s it for today. Thanks for reading.

Kroenke takeover attempts are not such a problem as there are still many shareholders willing to resist a takeover. I think solidifying the defence and adding a proven goalgetter to help Henry and Van Persie is the key to Arsenal’s future.
I have read Wenger’s comments that he wants to continue the development of the younger players and not spend to much. But if we could bring in a couple of players (mid twenties) it would really help with consistency. For me. it should be Woodgate and Afonso Alves (I don’t know why more people aren’t mentioning this guy, he is set to beat Ronaldo’s record of most goals in a season in the dutch league) and is just the type of player we need.
Speaking as an american who’s spent a good deal of my life in london, I have to say, it really doesn’t matter who owns arsenal in my opinion. arsenal have always been owned by smart, moeny-conscious businessmen. And British moneymen have more in common with American moneymen than they do with your average British lorrie driver.
he’s investing to have a good team. He won’t pump in chelski money, but then again, no one will. that’s a one-off. he’ll put in some money for the club and end up taking a lot more out over the years. he’s not going to fuck with a good thing.
and dear god, I hope we beat bolton. will we be bringing djourou back for that game? it worked to have his height in there last time.
Anyone who whines when a sports mogul worth $2 Billion comes ‘a knockin’ needs to take a day off. Besides, if it all goes tits up, at least North London gets a Wal-Mart.
Why am I such a cunt?
Wow, that dude who’s buying you is even uglier then Hleb
Because of the hair around your lips?
It’s nice to hear Henry personally come out and say flat out “I’m staying”, again. A win against Bolton is crucial but the faster this season is over the better. Van Persie and Henry need to begin training again and get back into the lineup.
