A point guarantees Champions League qualifiation 24 April, 2007

We need only a point from our 3 remaining games to secure that 4th spot. I’d be very surprised if we don’t do this on Sunday but once we do we can sit back and relax. 3rd is still a possibility but it doesn’t really bother me, 4th is the minimum requirement for me, so to achieve that, well it’ll do I suppose. UEFA cup is just out of the question and I really don’t want to worry myself thinking about it.
A few months ago we had 4th pretty much in the bag but we slipped up and gave the likes of Bolton a hope of nicking it from us, thank Goad we kept them at bay and now it looks like we will qualify for the Champions League next season (touch wood).
However Gael Clichy wants to remind us we’re still not there yet:
“We were looking forward to getting the three points on Saturday [against Spurs] so we could have been through to next season’s Champions League. But now everyone needs to be focussed for the next game against Fulham so we can qualify. We need to do that for ourselves and for our fans. Most of the time when you think you have done it that is when the worst can happen. So we have to be concentrated. When you play for a big club like Arsenal you have to play until the end. Even if we qualify before the Chelsea and Portsmouth games then we have to keep going in them for us and for the fans.”
If we do somehow manage to lose all our remaining games we can still come 4th though if Everton and Bolton don’t win on Saturday when they play Manchester United and Chelsea. It’s pretty hard to think that we won’t get there now but Gael’s in the right frame of mind, we are not there just yet, only relax once we are. You might think we’ve had such a shit season now that we’re talking about securing 4th but if you think about it, we’ve improved on last year when we only got 4th on the last day of the season when it wasn’t even in our own hands.
There’s really not a great deal of news about, everyone’s eyes are on the Champions League Semis. Man Utd have just won 3-2 against Milan and Chelsea play Liverpool tomorrow night.

Cesc Fabregas has been talking about his Arsenal future and Arsene Wenger. Cesc is not a player I worry about leaving Arsenal, he’s one of the few that I think genuinely love the club. He came 2nd in the PFA young player of the year the other night, it hasn’t been anywhere near his best season though and I’m sure that prize will be his one day.
Not really much else for me to talk about, I’ll post again tomorrow…probably. See ya!

the best part of wrapping that Champions league spot up?
I’d love to see cesc and gilberto rested and give diaby and denilson a run-out together in the last few games. Denilson looks like really quality and he could do with getting used to the pace of the english game.
yes, you’re right that we could rest Gilberto and Cesc if we beat Fulham on Saturday but just think of how excellent it would be if we could take some points off chelsea the following week and deny them the title. We can save Denilson and Diaby for the Pompey game.
And we only need a point if Bolton and Everton fail to win all their remaining games.
It’s good to see that they have Chelsea and Man Utd respectively, coming up this week!
true, eddie. I never thought I’d say these words, but I would love to hand the title to united by beating chelsea. christ I hate those pompous, overpaid wankers.
Chelsea isn’t my favorite club either. I’d like to see Man U take it this season since Arsenal is out of the title run. I can’t wait for next season. Anyone else feel that way? lol.
I would play Diaby ahead of Gilberto on form at the moment anyway. Cesc and Diaby will central midfield for years to come!
I would rather see Chelsea win the quadruple than see Man United win even the Community Shield…and I hate me some Chelsea. It just pales in comparison to my Manc-Hate.
Well, I expect a win thin week and at least two draws from the 2 remaining ones.
