Blah blah blah news etc… 30 May, 2007

I can tell this is going to be one very boring summer…

The top story? I suppose it’s the announcement that Arsenal are playing in the Amsterdam Tournament this pre-season. It adds to quite a busy pre-season schedule with the customary Barnet game, Austria tour and the new Emirates Cup competition. We get back to action on the 14th July when we travel to Underhill. Click the link to see our other pre-season fixtures.

The only other story of any interest is on Carlos Vela this is the young Mexican striker who we signed for about 2.5 million pounds a couple of seasons ago. However, he’s been constantly loaned out since we bought him because of issues with him getting a work permit. Carlos spent last season with Segunda Division side, Salamanca but has caught the eye of Levante. They are keen to get the teenager on loan but insist it all down to Arsenal.

henry / van persie

It seems the Thierry Henry to Barcelona rumour just wont give up and there’s fresh stories on that. Apparently, we are going to be offered £17 + Eto’o for our captain. Personally, I’d take that! However it’s just a stupid rumour and I will be very happy to see Thierry leading out Arsenal next season.

Robin Van Persie has backed up Wenger‘s theory that we don’t need to make a great deal of changes this transfer window. I do see the point, but I think a winger and possibly a striker are needed. It’s probably not a definite necessity but I do think we could be strengthened. I wouldn’t be very surprised if we see no more signings this summer but we can pray.

Until next time…I’ll try to find some news.

Totally agree that the Eto’o + 17 mil for Henry is total papertalk. Id take it of course but Henry will finish his career at the Arse and become an untouchable as far as goals scored. Total legend. With him and VanP back fully fit for a full season we wont want for goals next year. Backed up by a setteld in Rosicky and 10 goals for the Cesc. A further goal getter from midfield to come in wouldnt go amis either.

no signings? no top 6 then

I’ve just heard on good advice that Barca are willing to swap Eto’o and Ronaldhino plus £20m for our TH. They obviously want to up the anti. If I was Arsene I would hold out for a little longer and see if they will sweeten the deal a bit more.

Yeah, maybe they’ll give us £10m + Messi for Hleb

You all conveniently forget that our defense is pub like standard and as long as we keep it at that level we can add Ronaldinho, kaka and his dog and still not challenge.

I sometimes really wish we would just sign one player I’ve actually heard of ! Don’t get me wrong Henry, Cesc, Rosicky, RVP et al have all turned into fantastic signings but when you see Rooney going to the northern monkies and Shaun Wright-Phillips going to the Kings Road mincers I cannot help but feel a litle jealous. Ithink the last person we signed who I had heard of before signing was Sol Campbell !
I would never claim to have a great worldwide footballing knowledge but just for one summer please sign someone I’ve heard of.

I agree with Danish Gooner. Arsenal needs to strengthen the defense. Who do we have in defense that strikes any fear in our opponents. Clichy? Senderos? Please! We need to get the Tony Adams/Sol Campbell spirit back. Without a strong defense, Arsenal is going to be an also ran….again.
