Bayern sign Ribery + other random stuff 8 June, 2007

I suppose the top story is Bayern Munich signing Franck Ribery. Whether or not he was actually one of our targets I don’t know but we were strongly linked anyway. He’s the German side’s record signing at £17m and after losing Pizarro to Chelsea I think he’ll do well there. So we’re not getting Ribery, but we are being linked with Florent Malouda. The Lyon winger would fit in nicely at Arsenal I think but we’re going to have to outbid the likes of Chelsea to get him, so I don’t see it happening.

Henry

There’s some worrying quotes from Thierry Henry as speculation over his future is still going on. Just read this and see what you think:

“Everybody knows that a lot of stuff happened at the club recently that wasn’t supposed to happen. In terms of the departure of Mr Dein, the bosses have been unsettled and a lot of players have been unsettled in the club. I was devastated. Everybody who knows Mr Dein, we know that the guy loves football. What I’m saying to you is that Arsene and Mr Dein, although no one is bigger than the club, are really close to being Arsenal. If you ask me, they’re the two people for me who come really close to ever one day saying it. But I would like to say that whatever happened, Mr Dein leaving wasn’t a clever move.”

He’s also been saying about Dein’s departure has unsettled some players and some are thinking about their future, even Titi. I don’t thin it’s something to get too worked up about but Cesc was saying something similar recently too. However Henry also said, “I said to you, and so many times at the moment, I’m an Arsenal player.” It’s quite a strong thing for him to say but he’s still not saying ‘…and I will be next season’. Possibly some worrying times for Arsenal fans ahead but I don’t want to jump to conclusions, we all know what the media are like and how they can twist words out of you. Pires still can’t keep his mouth shut either, he’s been saying he thinks Thierry should go to Barca. As far as I’m concerned, Henry’s staying for now.

Nick Bendtner

Quite a few of our players have just come back from internationals, here’s the round up from those games. Ljungberg’s Sweden got 5 against Iceland, as did Emmanuel Eboue with Ivory Coast against Madagascar and Lehmann kept a clean sheet in the 6-0 win over San Marino. Also Nicklas Bendtner played in the abandoned game for Denmark against Sweden. Nick’s side were 3 down within half an hour but managed to pull the scores back level late in the second half. Then in the final minute, Denmark’s Christian Poulsen punched Markus Rosenberg and was given a red card by the referee Herbert Fandel. Then a Danish fan charged at the referee! He was stopped by the players but the ref wouldn’t carry on the game even though there was a minute left and Sweden were about to take a penalty. Quite a funny game.

Right that’s it, have a nice weekend.

There is simply no reason for Arsenal fans anywhere to get
their nickers in a twist over the continuing transfer speculation
and reported comments of TH14.

TH14, when talking about Milan, was saying in so many words that
he finds it flattering that a club of Milan’s stature – and current
European Cup holders – should be interested in him, as it is good
for his ego to be wanted by the best/leading clubs, but that he is, and will remain, an Arsenal player, for the foreseesable future.

He has said so many times that he’s committed to and staying at
Arsenal, so fans should simply believe him and take him at his word.
He did after all sign a new 4 year contract last year and I believe
that he’ll stay at Arsenal whilst Arsene Wenger remains there too.

The real problem is that (a) there isn’t much hard football news for
the media – here & abroad – to report on, so they are being even more naughty and creative than usual, plus Arsenal fans are simply
overanalysing and reading too much into the reported comments
of TH14.

My advice to fans is to simply relax, ignore all of the media stories about TH14 (and any other Arsenal players/personnel) and to not sweat the small stuff!

The only “news” that can be believed is what comes directly from the club. Until something concrete comes from the club the consider all stories as media hype. We all should know by now that the club policy on transfers is to keep it all quite until the deal is done and then to release the usual long term deal for undisclosed fee. Way back as far as january Wenger said he feels the squad needs 1 or 2 top quality players but if they cant be gotten then whats the point of signing someone just for the sake of it. They have to be better that what we have or to be able to compliment the squad. We all have our wishlists but the club know who they can afford and who would want to join us. Until then we just need to chillax.

Have you heard a joke? Man U are tracking a Brazilian kid who is supposed to be the new Kaka. But Brazilians dont fit well in Manure as Klebbeson proved to be a disastrous signing. In fact, not many player with fantasy succeed at Manure at all- Example is Veron who was a genius but could’nt get in the team.

Now that kids future is fucked

Why cant his agent see that. Bring him to Arsenal where he will blossom

Really, I’m getting tired of this Henry guy, if after all that we’ve done for him and he wants to leave he can go. Afterall AFC was and will always be there, if he leaves that will not be our end it may just be a new beginning.

And Cesc, brought in as a todler and developed as such, now he has the guts to slight Arsenal, hear him,’if Arsene leaves I leave’. I always say that our preference for foreign players always get us exposed.

I suppose Bentley, Upson, Pennant and Cole are examples of good ol’ English lads who show loyalty to the Arse? Face it – the majority of the squad would consider leaving if Wenger left. It’s not an indictment on the loveliness of Arsenal fans, it’s just a measure of the influence that Wenger holds within the club.

But sit tight, fellas – we’ve got to sell Reyes before we make moves on the transfer market. I’m crossing my fingers for Alves and Navas.

Why do we have to sell Reyes before we enter the transfer market? Whereabout the substantial money the board told the supporters trust recently that they’ve made it available to AW? Why can’t we borrow to invest in players, afterall that is what every club is doing including MANU and POOL, even all the so called investors use borrowed money which is eventually paid by fans and that is what Kreonke is plotting to do. So you people should think twice before allowing Kroenke to saddle us with more debts. ‘We can raise the debts on our own and finance players acquisitions. The problem is that AW will not buy experience but still buy kids, in addition our wage bill of 83+ only below MANU and CFC is on the high side, something should be done to free funds for investment in players. This can be done by offloading high wage eaners who are not performing like Freddie and also players who can’t cut it like Flamini, Sendy, Song, Hleb and some of the non-improving reserve players.
