Why hasn’t the Bakari Sagna signing been announced? 11 July, 2007

Sagna

Well last time I wrote something on the site I finished saying another signing would be nice, and we got one. Today The Sun published this mobile phone picture of Bakari Sagna trying on his new Arsenal shirt last night at Ashburton Grove. It seems the tradition for a new signing to go to the stadium in his new shirt for a photo shoot but I’m surprised there’s nothing on arsenal.com yet. As you can probably make out, Sagna will be wearing cAshley’s old no.3 shirt.

There are 2 reasons why arsenal.com hasn’t made an official announcement. 1. The lazy bastards who run the site couldn’t be arsed to put it up yet because they’re too busy trying to get the Barnet tickets to sell. Or 2. We’re waiting so we can make an announcement of two new signings. Obviously I hope it’s the latter and I think it is quite possible. I have no idea who that could be though, apparently it will be this bloke.

I know The Sun publish all sorts of bollocks but this is one story I believe; they’re saying it’s a £6m move on a five-year contract but I’m not relying on that information. So we’ve now got three right-backs, Hoyte, Eboue and Sagna. One of them must be turning into a right midfielder or maybe there’s the chance Sagna will be deployed at left back. I’m waiting to see what plans Wenger has because he surely can’t have bought him so we have three players for one position, especially after Hoyte and Eboue signing new contracts this summer.

When I see something official released by Arsenal I’ll let you know, but for now all we’ve got is that picture to go by.

Ljungberg

It looks like Freddie Ljungberg will be on his way out shortly. That Sun article said he might make a £5.5m move to Fiorentina. It does look quite likely. He has said a number of times he doesn’t want to leave Arsenal, but at £70,000 a week (I think it’s that, off the top of my head. It’s a big amount anyway), who wouldn’t. Fiorentina seem linked with Freddie the most, and his agent has confirmed there are talks in progress, but there are other clubs interested, he might even stay in the Premiership.

Looks like we’re in for a busy week.

1. Steve - 11 July, 2007

Or maybe we havent actually signed Sagna yet…?

2. dave - 11 July, 2007

Maybe he wanted to see what he looks like in the shirt 1st before signing !!

3. Geoff - 11 July, 2007

I agree with Steve, it hasn’t been announced because as yet arsenal & auxerre haven’t agreed a fee. Sagna probably done all the contract stuff & photo shoot & then left england to go back to france to pack up his stuff & await confirmation (if it ever comes). Going by the comments of their president I reckon we are 2 million apart, which probably wont be that easy to solve!!

4. Eamonn - 11 July, 2007

Seems odd alright. Why would he be getting ready for a photo call before the deal was done. becoming a rather messy affair this. Media relations/communications dept. will be kicking themselves.
If we bought a right back it is probably safe to its adios to hoyte.
He’ll pick up another £3-4m for the transfer kitty. best of look to him.

5. Gooner Rossi - 11 July, 2007

Eboue will be moved to midfield, and will compete with Hleb for the right midfield position.

6. Eamonn - 11 July, 2007

henry-16m
Reyes-8/9m
Freddy-5m
Muamba-3m
Hoyte-3m
Aliadaire-2m

7. Blog Head - 11 July, 2007

Its a fake photo you doughnuts,

Theres nowt as queer as folk &
Theres nowt as dumb as gooners

8. dodgy - 11 July, 2007

It is quite a head scratcher why we are signing another out and out right back??? As he is an out an out right back and a right footer it doesn’t make sense he could switch to left back?? Basically we have very good full backs with ideal cover, though i do not think hoyte has what it takes to cut it with the best? Moving Eboue to the right wing is surrly the only alternative, but is eboue really a right winger??? I can’t honestly see wenger buying another striker eg, martins. I’m 99% sure of that as we have alot of strikers at the club at present? We have been crying out for a flying winger for years, since the time pires and freddie started to get too old be beat people for fun. I was convinced he was going to bring ribery to the club but we all know what happened there!!!! I think we will suprise alot of people next season but still think we are 1/2 class players short of really challenging?

9. Eamonn - 11 July, 2007

where will the rest of the dosh go?

10. nightmook - 11 July, 2007

After scratching around the internet etc. it sounds as though we’ve agreed the basic fee & everything is sorted with the player but Auxerre are holding out for a few extra pence in add on clauses.

I was also in the main club shop around an hour ago & the only example box not on the wall in the shirt printing section was for a number 3. All the other numbers from 1-30, including those not currently assigned to players, were on the wall. Make of that what you will…

11. Richie - 11 July, 2007

Isn’t the better question why there are no “real” pictures from the shoot? And wouldn’t it be illegal to have contract discussions with a player without having his clubs permission? Would they really give permission without having agreed a fee? Doesn’t seem likely to me…

12. BERRY - 11 July, 2007

yeah theres always secret signings at arsenal nothing seems to go smooth like every other team liverpool have signed 9 players all gone smooth….whats the problem have we got him or not…we dont get told fuck all…henrys signing went well for barca how quick was that…eboue will be pushed forward i hope… hes good there.i dont no y they dont like talking at arsenal…..they better watch liverpool dont step in they look like they aint got no problems signing players

13. Blog Head - 11 July, 2007

Eamon,

The rest of the dosh will go on hookers

14. saf - 11 July, 2007

Cum on Sanga show Cashley cole what the number 3 is all about!!!! poww poww poww!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

15. dodgy - 11 July, 2007

doesn’t it make youa bit sick to see babel go to liverpool?

16. mark - 11 July, 2007

I think that Gilbert will be leaving, however I read somewhere he can play at Cb as well, Sagna that is.

17. enki - 11 July, 2007

dodgy not really he is another youngster. we do not need more of that

18. Ad - 11 July, 2007

Yeah there’s the possibility that its fake, now I’ve got a second look at it the lettering seems a bit bright and in the wrong position.
He will sign sooner or later though, its common knowledge that he’s in town for a medical.
Arsenal never announce until the deal is complete, Wenger has been burnt about mentioning signings before they’re complete. Ala Baptista (the 1st time around) and Robinho. Both of which were poached by Real Madrid.
Gouffran is meant to sign then go out on loan, also Wikipedia states that we’re getting a guy in return for ljungberg who plays in the same position. But is 9 years his junior. I reckon they may be holding out for that happening.

19. Steve - 11 July, 2007

For 13.5 million they can have Babel. He looked bang average in the u21s and we passed on him in Jan and again this summer.

20. rellends - 11 July, 2007

interesting to note that if you look him up on wikipedia it says he is playing for us already

21. Del boy - 11 July, 2007

blog head and steve such up muppets yes we have signed him and no it aint fake u prat. you lot seriouly need to actually pull ur thumbs outta ur arse’s. he will go right back eboue will be put in right midfield cos freddies off.

so shut up don’t talk bollocks and in arsenal we trust

22. Paul - 11 July, 2007

What surprises me is that no-one is excited about the prospect of signing Valeri Bojinov as part of the Ljungberg deal. The guy is dynamite.

Likewise, Nery Castillo (left footed and can play up front or on the wing) is available for about 15m/20m Euros, let the scousers spend that on an untried U-21…

Dudu, Sagna, Gouffran, Castillo/Quaresma and Bojinov would be a great little haul for less than the money earned….

23. rellends - 11 July, 2007

not seen anything regarding bojinov. he would be a very good signing though.

24. Double98 - 11 July, 2007

I was watching Sky Sports News last night and they said that Obafami Martins had been seen at the emirates yesterday.
Then no body mentioned it again… It fell off the radar today – i think geographically that with Ljunberg Out, Sanga in, Martins in and Goufrann In(next year) that wenger cannot be every where

25. BERRY - 11 July, 2007

i think the cost of players is stupid now looking at things now we could have sold henry 30 million to liverpool…..y would that picture be fake we just probably cant afford him maybe we have got a bad credit rateing or trying a i o u……ha ha

26. Mad Jens - 11 July, 2007

Moving Eboue to right midfield is the best move. He played in that position against Portsmouth last game of last season and looked effective. He has the concentration of Goldfish when it comes to defending.

I gather that Sagna was recommended to Wenger by Grimandi and is a mobile full back that doesn’t shirk a tackle and can play on both flanks and if we’re desperate at centre back too.

27. Magneto - 11 July, 2007

If Sagna is signed and takes the right full back position, with Eboue moving to a right midfield slot, it may well mean that Hleb will be
competing for a left midfield slot with Rosicky.

If that scenario pans out, it may mean less signings than we might like, i.e. no new left midfielder.

But either way, I trust Arsene to do the right thing.

28. a c*nt - 11 July, 2007

I hope he sorts his barnet out before his debut…

29. lasagnechef - 11 July, 2007

Gilbertosilver from gunner blog came up with this:

Sagna…woah oh oh oh oh,
Sagna…woah oh oh oh oh,
He came from Auxerre,
He’s got stupid hair.
Sagna…woah oh oh oh oh.

30. Ali - 11 July, 2007

I get confused with these blogs……….

Everyone was well impressed when we signed Dudu, bolt out of the blue, another master stroke by Wenger was mentioned. In this day and age with Real Madrid and Chavski about transfers have to be kept quiet.
As supporters we are not necessarily in a position to demand the information to the inner workings of Arsenal FC, Wenger Pour Example has been an absolute genius, so whilst those around us are throwing money about we are just doing what we do every season, and to be honest what happened to Man U 3 seasons ago………. its change boys, and its exciting, stop moaning, Arsene cannot become a bad manager overnight………….

P.S. Babel????? Why???? we have Walcott, and although not amazingly impressive just now we would be wasting money and signing players for the sake of it.

As for Sagna, so what if we have 3 RB’s, i dont think Wenger has lost one in the cupboard and forgot, the man is not stupid, he will quite clearly have a plan and we are not the people to question him, he is the superstar manager we just pay for tickets to be entertained, this by the way does not allow us to have an influence on tranfers, if you want that try circa £20mil on shares then you can moan

31. Raymond - 11 July, 2007

Moving Eboue on the right flank might not necessarily help. Fine. He is swift but doesn’t look like he can be a thorn in the opposition’s fresh for all the 90 minutes, he is better in defence. Wenger needs active wingers. The thoght of Wright Phillips/Pennant and Philip Lamn on both flanks would be good ideas

32. The Saint - 11 July, 2007

How about: La Sagna, Woah oh oh, La Sagna, Woah oh oh…..

33. The Saint - 11 July, 2007

I still think La Sagna will also be a back up CB in case Gallas bolts.

34. nick - 11 July, 2007

tbh I think the pic is fake, reason I think that is because the shirt looks brighter and the lettering doesn’t look right either. Walcott over Babel anyday! Personally I think we should get Huntelaar, he’s $h!t hot plus its an omen if he does come cos he scored the first ever goal at Emirates. As for Martins – OMFG ROFLMFAO you must be kidding????? No way do we need another striker of his well ermm ummm calibre? Rather have Ade up front than him any day of the week! Watch out for Bendtner he’s supposedly $h!t hot too apparently. Robinho would be a nice addition to the squad, I’ve rated him for quite a while now so he’d be a nice player under the guidance of Le boss. Anyway if the pic is real why give him no.3 when I think Clichy should get it!

35. i hate northern monkeys - 11 July, 2007

theres nout queerer than northerners

36. Gunner - 11 July, 2007

Sagna can also play centerback. With the Africa Nations Cup in february, I think signing Sagna is pretty logical, ’cause he can fill the gap that toure and eboue leave behind when they’re gone

37. jay - 11 July, 2007

As is the case with every Arsenal transfer we are been made
to suffer and wait till the media/internet annonce an offical
deal. Pre-season has become hell for all arsenal fans.
Are we not prepared to cough up an extra one million
for his (la sagna) services?? It seems not. If we are struggling to agree
financial terms with Auxerre im thinking it will be our last
summer signing. We now have been linked with la sagna 3weeks.
Anyone know whats going on??

38. FrenchGooner - 11 July, 2007

Sagna is class and powerful.
Eboue: good and average at times and this irregularity is costing us
Gouffran: What a promising player!!!! if we do get him we have a pacy and great finisher on his way!
Babel: A bit annoyed by that but the price is ridiculous
Tevez: did we even have a chance?
MGPedersen: Where is he!!! I want him arsenal nooooooooooooooooow! he s the perfect player for us and proven in the EPL so that would be a wise move

I expect a lot of activity before the end of july as Liverfool and ManYanks will close the cheque books while chelsyphillis will try alves or chimbonda bedore closing it. then we will be able to trade in peace without people accepting ridiculous prices messing up the market

We have some money available but 2 things are slowing down our purchases:
- Wenger contract negotiations said to be going well but if they fail then his motivation to build will be as good as gone
- the market is flooded with overpriced players and idiots willing to pay those prices. that goes against wenger’s policies

Here are my thoughts…

39. Blog Head - 11 July, 2007

How about,

Lets sing it for the S.A.G.N.A,
With my willy he will play
My cock he’ll lick all day
He rolls around in the hay
with His lover who’s name is Ray
Aussies say g’day
And this is what they say,
Cos he’s a fucking gay

40. Rick - 11 July, 2007

Eboue as a right wing sound right for me.
Anyone knows if Sagna has played at center back before ?
I don´t want to argue with anyone, but between Adebayor and Martins, I have no doubt in my mind: Martins all the way. Of course if Robinho is a real chance or other names like Hunterlaar I would prefer anyone of them.

Rick

41. Danish Gooner - 11 July, 2007

Tell you what !!!! It would be the Arsenal way of doing transfers if it all fell apart on a clause stipulating AUXERRE to receive 2 pound fifty the first time he whacked Cunt Ashley.

42. rumour master - 11 July, 2007

well the latest out of spain is that the hold up on etoo for us was the asking price.

that is being reduced for gallas to follow henry to barca for etoo.

so sagna would be a future kolo. and would get the same type of training. fullback then center back.

43. Blog Head - 11 July, 2007

well the latest out of italy is that the Rumour Master has eaten more cocks then a mother fucker

44. Scooch - 11 July, 2007

I agree with French Gooner up there….

MG Pedersen would be a great addition to our squad.

45. Scooch - 11 July, 2007

Blog Head………. Do you spend hours sitting at your keyboard thinking up your next ultra-witty post????

No I didn’t think you did!

Twat!

46. truth - 11 July, 2007

blok-head, go and have intercourse with yer mum.

47. BERRY - 11 July, 2007

well i think its fake aswell because it would of came out by now.but y havnt arsenal or auxerre said its not true wenger aint said fuck all about nothing and if its 2 million pounds we are argueing about write it off like the money we lost on henry and viera and reyes i think its fucking stupid how we do buisness

48. arsenal 4ever - 11 July, 2007

You lot should take your blinkers off !! wheres our depth? 3 right backs!! trust wenger!, trust wenger! trust wenger!, well wenger has done sod all in 4 years. Wake up gooners, we’re being left behind. Everyone was raving about babel last month but now you are all saying that he aint all that and liverpool are welcome to him. How much longer are we going to put a brave face on our perilous position?

49. rumour master - 11 July, 2007

blog head. if he was so hot for milan and they had the money – which they don’t, why hasn’t he signed for them?

how abt, why did they say they couldn’t afford sheva – their first choice. they aren’t going to sell kaka to madrid so it doesn’t matter how much bluster comes from milan. they will not get etoo on the cheap.

most in spain have been suggesting why we (arsenal) are waiting is because of the reyes negotiation. that in combination with henry would be enough.

in fact now that gallas is wanted by barca it makes it much more feasible to complete the deal.

50. Afc - 11 July, 2007

what position does this bajinov fella play?

51. Afc - 11 July, 2007

i wouldnt say we are being left behind but take your point about our depth. we must trust arsene but for how long? it pisses me off that we hear so little from the board or manager on the direction we are taking, just a bit of reassurance now and again wouldnt go a miss. Does anyone have 100% faith in the board without dein and if so then why?

52. ArseneQ8 - 11 July, 2007

does anybody have a youtube clip for sagna?

53. ooh 2.. - 11 July, 2007

Freddie has done wel but its time to move on

54. arsenal 4ever - 11 July, 2007

….. i think its time for arsene to pack his bags and ride off into the sun. Lets get BIG PHIL in and move in another direction, ie, winning trophies!!

55. txetoo - 11 July, 2007

Would we sign Yohan Gouffran? He is a very interesting player.

56. afc - 11 July, 2007

BIG PHIL??????

57. afc - 11 July, 2007

whats interesting about gouffran then?

58. txetoo - 11 July, 2007

He is very fast, is 21, and he has goal.

Sorry, If me English isn’t good ;)

59. afc - 11 July, 2007

english is ok.
cheers

60. txetoo - 11 July, 2007

What about Gallas, here in Spain, the news say that he would leave Arsenal?

61. JUTT - 11 July, 2007

LEHMANN, Fabianski
SAGNA, hoyte. TOURE, GALLAS, Djourou, Senderos. CLICHY, Traore.
HLEB, Eboue. FABREGAS, GILBERTO, Diaby, Denilson. ROSICKY, Walcott.
RVP, EDUARDO, Ade, Bendtner.

Keepers covered.
defence covered. we have defenders who can play in more than one position.
midfield covered.
wings, i think we need one world class signing here, for the left flank.
strikers. bring on martins.

62. Rick - 11 July, 2007

Gallas should be gone by now. No respect for the team and you are out. Welcome Sagna, bye bye Gallas.

Rick

63. Rick - 11 July, 2007

JUTT. Agree on:

strikers. bring on martins.

Rick

66. Dan - 11 July, 2007

jutt,

that squad is far and away the worst squad we have had for past 10 years. there are a handful of excellent players a few above average and the majority completely average.

sad but true.

67. Dazza - 11 July, 2007

I believe that this is Walcott’s chance to come good, I think that Arsene as usual knows exactly what he is doing.

68. Steero - 11 July, 2007

Sagna has signed, and it will be annoced tomorrow along with Robino of Real Madrid with Reyes and 5million going the other

69. gsik - 11 July, 2007

Robinho?

that would be immense… he has the opportunity to become a legend under AW.

70. Dan - 11 July, 2007

NO 68 what rubbish there is now way robinho is coming to us, he is at the copa america at the moment and he would not come to us anyway.

71. BERRY - 11 July, 2007

robinho aint comeing no were we cant evenpay 6 million for sagna wengers doing a few chores for auxurre like cutting the grass washing the kits cutting the oranges to make up the difference in money for sagna thats y he aint been about ……..na do u lot reckon we have or going to sign him would be nice to get some players now before pre season games

72. kai - 11 July, 2007

i think sagna is a great sining but we need to land martins to give that final ingredient to our squad

73. brinso-the-gooner - 11 July, 2007

ahahahaha, berry, you made me laugh to bits.

74. DAF - 11 July, 2007

The Sagna signing is real. I was on an Emirates Stadium tour yesterday afternoon and the tour guides confirmed he had just signed and that he had been on the pitch an hour earlier. The Sun picture came from one of the people on the tour who took a snap with their phone or whatever.

Good signing if we can push Eboue into mf.

how long sagna stay at arsenal?

81. Erique - 12 July, 2007

Seriously, either wenger has the flu and cant talk or he is… Y is he all that silent??!! Anyway i think he should make one final signing in Martins and all is well. Eduardo is adaptive (wengers words) and i think he shuld play in the left wing and RVP and Martins upfront. Rosicky right The Cesc and Gilberto in the middle. In defence the usual four. Clichy,Gallas,Toure,Eboue. Eboue is an asset coz there’s no other RB with crosses as effective as his. The above team (Walcot on the left) is very strong in fifa07, manager07, pro evo6; Hell, the team is great!!!!

82. Blog Head - 12 July, 2007

Scooch,

Your fly’s are undone

83. Blog Head - 12 July, 2007

david,

Sagna stayed long enough to take it up the bottom from Pat Rice, to get wanked and fingered at the same time by Adebeyor and DUDU (baby shit in a nappie), and to give walcot a shot in the mouth. He then had lunch and took a piss.

So I’m guessing he was there for about 35-45 minutes.

84. DeiseGooner - 12 July, 2007

“The above team (Walcot on the left) is very strong in fifa07, manager07, pro evo6″ :o ) Not the real world tho is it Erique and thats the problem these days, basing players ability and quality on computer games. I have said this before, the club (including Wenger) only comment when the deal is done. PHW said a while ago theres a lot going on it the background. You cant expect a comment from the club or manager on every media story, they wouldnt have time for anything else.

85. BERRY - 12 July, 2007

what the fucks going on then it dont take this long..you dont parade around in a arsenal shirt if u havnt signed a contract….spurs didnt have no problem signing kaboul from auxerre…i think we are waiting on funds from reyes….im pissed off with people always linked with are best players them contracts aint worth a cunt are they…y did sky sports say martins was seen at are stadium and someone else said he is in africa…

Bacaray whoa oa oa oa
Bacaray whoa oa oa oa
His Mum’s from Senegal
He plays for Arsenal…

90. BERRY - 12 July, 2007

i spoke to soon the deal is done what a fucking good buy u wait until u see this gunner his good i watched him a lot last year eboue will be pushed forward now he wont get this position again trust me he is a lot better stronger faster skillfull and more mature and hungry to do well……..whos fucking next

91. Sohail - 12 July, 2007

Its official. the new number three is actually Bakari Sagna.

92. Paul Merson - 12 July, 2007

One problem, Sagna is fucking shite

93. Rock - 12 July, 2007

yup, glad the deal’s done and look forward to seeing him do well. I dont really know what this means for hoyte but it looks like sagna will be first choice right back due to not only the price but how adamant wenger was with this signing. Hoyte could be pushed into centre back we never know but i cant wait to see sagna in action seen him play a few times in patches looks a very solid acquisition for us. Now all we need is a world class centre back and the fight that martins brings upfront and we are READY.

94. Lorencozic - 12 December, 2010

I need to contact site admin urgently. Can you understand me?
