another game, another injury, another goalkeeping error 20 August, 2007

“We can cope with the injuries we have but it’s getting down to the bare bones. Ade should be back for Man City and Gilberto comes back in September. All the others will return in one, two or three games I hope. We’ll be alright then but touch wood we’re not adding more names to the injury list come Monday.”
Before you ask, yes I did actually touch wood when I wrote that but obviously not hard enough. William Gallas picked up an injury which will see our captain out for 3 weeks. I’m not the biggest fan of Bill as captain but I do believe he is a very good centre-back and we will miss him. He’s done something to his groin and Philippe Senderos will come into the first team in his place. Now Wenger’s decision to loan out Djourou will be put to the test.
No match report for the Blackburn game I’m afraid because I simply didn’t see it. I tried internet streams but nothing came of it, I was just stuck with the infrequent reports on Sky Sports News as they wanked over the Chelsea and Liverpool game. That was 1-1 by the way and City beat United. United controlled the game but City must’ve been alright to hold them off; we play them next week at the Grove.
The Arsenal.com match report is here if you want to read. What I did pick up from the game was it was another physical match, but that was to be expected. We got 4 yellows as did Blackburn, two of which going to Ryan Nelsen who dragged down Van Persie as he was going through on goal.

We scored in the 18th minute thanks to a goalkeeping error by Friedel and Van Persie was the one to knock it in. Blackburn equalised in the 72nd minute thanks to another stupid mistake from Lehmann. Dunn shot well but it was going straight to Jens at a comfortable height, the home fans behind the goal sighed in disappointment but Jens scuffed the save and the ball went in behind him.
I know Jens is probably more upset at this error than us fans are and I’m sure he’s going to try his best to focus from now on so we shouldn’t be harsh to him. But FUCKING HELL JENS! You can’t do that at this level. That cost us 2 points and at this stage of the season we might not think about it but silly silly mistakes like that all add up. I would be in favour of Almunia starting against City but he won’t. Please Jens, sort it out, concentrate.
I would’ve taken the point before the game but they way we conceded it feels much worse. Wenger is satisfied with the result anyway.
Thanks for reading.

1st GUN!
Sigh…
Well last season we entertained everyone with comedian strikers. This season we now entertain everyone with a comedian keeper.
But apart from that….it’s been disgusting reading and watching the comments from Hughes and that lowlife scumbag Savage.
There was no game at Ewood Park. Blackburn do not play football. You can’t even say they play crap football because they don’t play football at all. The fact that they can be proud of creating a game with 8 yellow cards and 1 red says it all. It is entirely their fault that there were so many stops to the game, so many cards. The fact that lowlife scum like Robbie Savage can have an idiotic zombie grin on his face while being interviewed by skysports and say with pride “we kicked them all over the park” says it all–Blackburn players and their managers are thugs. Their idea of football is thuggery. They play crap football for maybe 2 minutes and that’s it. This is a thug team of glorified mediocrity who go out on the pitch not to play football but to plant their studs firmly on players’ heads (the way Pedersen did with Cesc), draw blood with their elbows, and the like. That’s all they’re about. They’re a crap team who couldn’t even score except with the helpful idiocy of our keeper.
I really hope Jens can pull it together. When he’s on, he’s on. But he isn’t right now. Find the fucking switch, you crazy German.
PS - Savage is a diving bitch.
Lehman sucks big time. He did it again and it will cost us dearly.
They have one two shots on target and we are one goal behind.
This is the story of the last two seasons.
Lehmann OUT.
Fabianski IN.
Sorry Lasagne Chef. I wasn’t trying to degrade your blog.
I did manage to get a stream of the match and it was a hell of a physical game. Its like Flamini is on steroids that are fuelling his passion. You can really see it, he’s up for a fight! Blackburn for me really were the aggressor. Mark Hughes said that Blackburn outplayed us for the whole game and i didn’t think so at all. We played well all match whilst Blackburn tried to win the World Martial Arts Tournament or something.
We really did drop 2 points literally. Lehmann is a character but at time his antics need to focus on seriousness. 2 mistakes in 2 EPL games is not good at all. Dropping him could be a solution but i think he may realise how he has let the team down and will play better football in the future.
Gallas being injured is so fucking annoying. I mean, newly promoted captain and then injured. He needs to stop being injured i tell thee! But stick the armband on King Kolo for a while. He is Deputy as well as Gilberto right?
Was good to see Eduardo out there, he wasn’t phased by anything and can fight. Walcott needs to step up. He’s good but now he needs to justify that by assists and goals. He had a few opportunities and flopped them. We can’t keep saying he’s a kid forever can we?
We have Man City next and they are on fire at the moment and the team will be brimming with confidence. We need to win the next game or else its catch up all season again.
And apologies to Lasagne Chef. My bad.
Haha! No problem…serious dont worry.
you get teh feeling wenger is literally doing this season on a dare: can we have a team with no signings win anything?
there is no reason for how thin are squad is. one more injury and we’ve got song at center back, or a midfield of flamini and song. or theo and traore as wingers.
i love this team and I think they’ll be great. but not this year. this year is a training ground. i think wenger is waiting for vela to come in next year and do well.
does anyone disagree?
[...] another game, another injury, another goalkeeping error [image] “We can cope with the injuries we have but it’s getting down to the bare bones. Ade should be back for […] [...]
I agree with San Fran goon : Our thin squad can’t win the title this year. AW must sign Anelka and another center back good in the air
This guy is devising new ways to get us into trouble. He has gone out of his mind and deserves a ban for atleast 3 matches.
Gallas says now hes out till October, 1500 pound season tickets yet no attempt to sign Aneilka so as to give RVP some relief. We dont have a squad where we can rotate, Torres has played only 2 of 3 games and he looks very sharp. I f we can do no better than fourth then bring back Dein and a takeover with money to spend
lucky 13 gun
Bendtner looks ok, but him and Adebayor will not get us the championship this season, I think that we need to sign another striker and I agree with a few of you that Anelka would be great, the lad is scoring in a Bolton team that create nothing.
I know that he left when he was younger, but look at yourselves and the wrong choices you made when you were younger - come on, how many of you have had that one extra drink and ended up fucking the fat lass from the disco.
Just over a week left of the transfer window, lets hope that Wenger dosnt make a mistake and instead of buying someone he goes to the disco.
i think u have just revealed a little too much about yourself…
your a drunk that entertains fat girls.
that also fancies bendtner
All of you that suggest Anekla should join us are insane, with very short memories. We dont need a player who is has no loyalty to our club what-so-ever. We need players who have desire and want to fight for our club. He has only just started scroing goals again(last season or two), as the only striker in a direct long-ball side. Before that, he played for how many clubs in how many seasons??!! Even then he didnt bang em in.. He is a troubled fella who brings all his problems to the clubs forefront. Its a shame, because he is the perfect mould for a striker. His temperment is a problem. We dont need him. We have 5 strikers. We need REAL WINGERS!! We dont have one of them…
There are no wingers out there Quaresma is over priced and we missed out on Ribery. Aneilka has changed his attitude since Le Sulk days and he could help RVP and give us some rotation as well as have Eduardo out on the wing. Look at Liverpool they can afford to rest Torres ine one game and use him 45 minutes in another and now he looks tremendous.
sam nix sucks dicks
sam nix get a clue for gods sake…we dont need any winger’s we’ve never had an out and out winger, the players out wide at the moment are doing well. you clearly are one of those “buy just for the sake of buying” people. we need physical power upfront and i agree anelka fits the bill perfectly he’s no nonsense and would give us goals “guaranteed”. the loyalty factor fair enough plays a part, but who is loyal these days? rite now it’s about this year and getting arsenal back on the map, winning that title and we should be doing everything possible to do so. I cant see wenger getting anelka i doubt he’d pay the 12 million asking price, also considering his age. one thing i have 2 say is love him or hate him if fergie pulls off anelka it’ll be one hell of a coup cause he’s seen man utd not convert like we did last season and he’s making his move quick to rectify the problem unlike we did.
Anelkas attitude hasnt changed. He has a bad attitude towards everything. He is a cancer wherever he goes. There aree lots of strikers.. use your imaginatios a bit more… As for wingers.. we had plenty of chances to sgn one. We didnt for whatever reason… Eduardo is a finisher, not a winger. He can play with width, but hius main asset is predatory skill in and around the box, while creating space for others. Might as well move RVP to wing if you would play Eduardo there… And a rest Torres??!! He played every game for the last 5 years. He was dropped due to a silly rotation policy.. not rested. If he is tored after 2 games and a few pre-season appearances, the he has issues. Like Ron..
Rock.. you are a muppet. Ljunberg and Pires were both wingers.. Overmars.. All during our most successfuil years. In a 4-4-2 with 2 wingers.. . I have supported this club for 25 years, and I have always argued against people who say ““buy just for the sake of buying”. Buyoing Anelka would be doing just that!! You think the players out wide are doing well?!!?! what games are you watching!!?
Physical power up front Rock!?!? Ade.. RVP.. Bendtner.. you really know sweet FA.,
We should sign Micah Richards and Ricardo Quaresma!
Its about time you lot started talking “keepers” and stopped waffling on about who we should or should not buy! Coco has had too long betwenn the posts, he is a liability, its no good having good or world class outfield players and a useless keeper. Wenger should break the bank for a world class keeper, and soon!!
Our wide players are doing well atm? Is Eboue doing well..? Is Walcott doing well? Rosicky is injured and Hleb is better in the center. At the same time we have RvP, Ade and Eduardo and Bendtner as forwards. So why do we need a striker? We need a winger.!
sammy sammy sammy…such shite knowledge from a complete amateur. No bother, allow me to correct you on your pitiful mistakes:
your first comment regarding anelka, saying he’s a cancer wherever he goes, he has a bad attitude. you really are a tosser, you think inside the box. Everywhere he has gone, he has scored goals, he’s 100% commited in every game, giving his all for the team. Nobody complained about him back in the day at arsenal about being moody, the only reason he has that tag is cause u rarely see him smile when he’s out on the pitch. You foolish boy, you are that dumb that you listen to the press rather than open your own eyes.
Your winger comment. You really should learn to stop talking as it exposes your lack of knowledge even further. Pires and Ljungberg were never out and out winger’s they loved to drift inside, you would never see chalk on theyre boots running down the flanks floating in crosses, it hasnt been the arsenal way under wenger, until know as eboue is employed in that position. you claim Pires is a winger but then say we have no wingers right now…wenger clearly stated Rosicky was signed due to not only the fact he is a top talent but has distinct similarities with pires - a direct contradiction in your own bogus statement then. Yes i do believe the players out wide are doing well at the moment, “what games am i watching” you ask? clearly not the game one’s as you, because what i’ve seen are good displays from both hleb and rosicky and walcott had a good game on sunday aswell. Rosicky was unlucky not to get a hatrick against fulham for f’s sake.
Your final comment just summed you up as a complete embarassment. Adebayor ofcourse has physical presence, Bendtner too, yet is adebayor the answer right now? Anelka runs in behind defenders and leaves them for dead, get’s in super positions and scores goas, he has the all round package. Adebayor is a good striker and works very hard, freeing space for van persie and is a good foil for him, but his finishing has been in question and i cant see that changing this season. What i mean by physical power is the explosiveness to shrug off challenges and the ruthlessness along with composure infront of goal to convert. He’s scoring goals for fun for a bolton side who dont fashion half the chances we do. If you cant see he would be an excellent buy and has something we lack you are even more stupid than your comments suggest.
Eduardo has finishing capabilities and i think he’ll do well this year but still needs time to get used to the physical side of the english game at the moment but he will get there as he’s a brave player and a livewire who works very hard for the team. Bendtner is a top top talent with great technique and a super 1st touch but it’s only fair that he too is given time to get used to the pace of the game. Right now it’s good that he’s getting some experience, and is able to come on from the bench with the potential to change games.
Eduardo cant play on the wing? you just get better and better dont you…that was one of the big reason’s he was signed, the manager clearly stated this and THE PLAYER HIMSELF stated he prefer’s to play either right or left and work hard for the team, he has a super cross on him and you’ll see that soon enough. His work rate is phenominal. You are pathetic! i repeat, he is predominantly a striker but is highly highly adaptable.
I suggest you now look at your own comments before you embarass yourself further claiming other’s know sweet f.a
I did not get the chance to watch the game against BR. Can you please tell me how did Eduardo play ?
Was the game like the cat and mouse type of game we played a lot last season ?
Thanks for your response.
Rick
Rock. you are jumping the gun there a bit fella.
” Nobody complained about him back in the day at arsenal about being moody, the only reason he has that tag is cause u rarely see him smile when he’s out on the pitch. You foolish boy, you are that dumb that you listen to the press.” Fact is, his attitude has been his downfall. you know that. it has affected him, and every club he has been at. Dont need him. Smiling is irrelevant. Many players wear frowns. Thats doesnt make them have a shitty attitude than einfects dressing rooms and training grounds.
“Yes i do believe the players out wide are doing well at the moment, “what games am i watching” you ask? clearly not the game one’s as you, because what i’ve seen are good displays from both hleb and rosicky and walcott had a good game on sunday aswell. ”
Youa re the only person oneaerth that thinks Hleb is effective on the wing. Walcotts hasnt gotten by his man but on a few occasions, then only to misplay the ball. As for Freddie & Bobby… they were wingers. You obviously defone a winger who only crosses the ball. Both of those players played with natural width, able to take their man on. They had options. They could go by, or inside, or cross. Rosicky is one dimensional, and a central player. I remeber AW’s comment about Rosicky very well. However, Rosicky has yet to show near the ability to play wide. Thats is the point. Pires et al had a FANTASTIC ability to play wide. I dont see that same talent in our current squad.
“What i mean by physical power is the explosiveness to shrug off challenges and the ruthlessness along with composure infront of goal to convert” Move the goalposts there mate? I define physical presence as the ability to impose one frame on another.. Ade uses his body very well, and if you watched preseason, you would see he has put on some muscle. I wish he would finish as well as he did for Togo in the ACN…
“Eduardo has finishing capabilities and i think he’ll do well this year but still needs time to get used to the physical side of the english game at the moment but he will get there as he’s a brave player and a livewire who works very hard for the team..” no arguments here..
Eduardo is a finisher who will be most effective centrally. He i9snt a winger. he can play with advanced width, but he is not a winger. Why buy a guy with his strike-rate and deploy him wide?!?!!? .. the point is he is a magnificent finisher who is most effective up front, attacking the goal. his height being my only issue. Eduardo said he COULD play wide.. he is ateam player. he is a striker first. If we fo for a 4-3-3, i can see him playing as one of the wide forward men. but not in a 4-4-2.
You say buy Anekla. I and the vast majority of people who are involved and KNOW football say class goes deeper than what you show on the pitch. He is a great striker, but a troubled unstable guy. Not what we need. There are many strikers out there.
how he became arsenal captain, i will never know
too bad, hes a pig, and im glad hes out
Sam nix,
I do not doubt, in any way shape or form that a bad apple is not what’s needed at the club. you claim anelka is a “troubled, unstable guy” i see no proof of this, i repeat when he was at arsenal there was no report of dressing room unrest. The likes of Bergkamp came out and said he’s the best striker he’s played with, vieira, grimandi, petit, were his friends during that period and still are. You hear henry saying his ideal partner upfront would be anelka. You hear pires crying out for him to be signed for villareal. You hear wenger still raving about him saying how highly he rates him. Do you honestly think an unstable, troubled human being would be worthy of such praise? you say he has a bad attitude, if you were reffering to diouff i could understand where you are coming from, that’s what you call someone with 0% class, someone who spits directly at opponents and fans, swearing like there’s no 2mrw, cheating, diving…Anelka has none of these shortcomings, all he does is enjoy his football on the pitch and gives his all for 90 minutes, you dont see him getting involved with anything else. You keep saying he has a bad attitude but you come up with no evidence to back your claim.
Yes, he left the club under acrimonious circumstances, but the boy was 19 years old, badly advised, and real madrid came calling. It was 8 years ago, yet u still dont forgive him. To be honest I do see where you are coming from, it’s natural your not his biggest fan and it’s true he left the club dry without a second thought, and we all know he would join man utd in a split second if they bid for him this week, he wants to play in the champions league, and wouldnt give his arsenal ties a thought before making that jump to old trafford.
However, I still believe he has something we lack, ruthlessness…a knack of scoring goals for fun. Eduardo was bought for that, and i wasnt suggesting that he should be deployed to the left wing i was stating the fact that he can easily slot in there and do well.
You say i’m the only one who thinks hleb and rosicky do well out wide? So i guess that’s me and the manager then? People who understand the game know it takes time to adapt to a position, hleb was a playmaker for stuttgart, likewise rosicky for sparta, but as far as i’m concerned, and a lot of TRUE gunner’s know, that hleb does perform well he just needed to work on a couple of things from last season i.e learning to shoot when the opportunity is presented to him. Rosicky has needed time and i have no doubt he will be a big player for us this season and will score goals from midfield and create many assists as will hleb, though hleb fashioned plenty of chances for our strikers last season who failed to convert.
Your little dig regarding me implying a winger is someone who merely crosses the ball, allow me to explain, but you may not understand as your knowledge of the game is, putting it lightly - quite dodgy. You seem to make comments judged on personal preference rather than fact. Hleb likes to drift inside as does rosicky, you’ll never see them stay out wide for a long period of time in any game. An out an out winger is someone who hold’s the width and operates up and down the flanks, for example the chelsea v liverpool game on sunday was a good example of this, wright phillips in the 1st half was playing far too infield and was ineffective. Come the second half he moved out more wide and held his position, he got the ball took finnan on, got by him on the outside and stood a lovely cross up for pizzaro at the far post who shouldve scored with a free header.
Pires, during his time for metz, played as an attacking midfielder, a playmaker role behind the strikers, ljungberg played in the hole too for halmstads before he joined us, similar to what scholes does for utd. wenger converted them both on the wings. The same he is doing with hleb and rosicky. I can guarantee you will be singing the praises of both hleb and rosicky come next may, give them time, and when we lift that title in may i’ll ask u the question “what do you think of them both now” - out wide.
You clearly dont want us to buy anelka, like i said a lot of gooners feel that way and that’s fair enough, but make no mistake if he did come, he’d make a huge impact and would not disrupt the dressing room. People who know football can see he’s not half of the things you say he is.
Eduardo could play on the wing
or in a 4-3-3
yeah lets play our fox in the box on the wing!!!
sam nix - Have to back Rock up here mate, We have not played with an out and out winger since Overmars (walcott being the closest we have had since then). I think that you are getting confused between a Winger and a left/right midfielder. Pires and Freddie were truly great players for us but they were not wingers mate, they were attacking midfield players who made runs inside when ever they could. Wenger dosnt play with wingers, he likes his midfield players to make runs that pull full backs out of position to open up room for our full backs to run in to.
I also think that you are wrong about Hleb, on the left he is very effective for us and has shown this in pre-season.
in pre-season he played as the support striker, u tit.
I think when everyone is fit and that looks like never that we will see a 4-3-3
hopefully
aluminum/fabianski
sagna-toure-senderos-clichy
hleb/rosicky-gilberto-csesc
rvp-adebayor-eduardo
with sagna and clichy bombarding down the wings and gilbo covering them when they do it will be a formidable team… …if they are ever fit
Does anyone think that there is a real chance to sign Quaresma for Arsenal ?
Rick
Rick,
sorry mate i dont think there is…though he is a world class player and im sure everyone would love to see him in red and white. I guess you just never know what wenger is thinking though, a week and a half to go, some money is there, anything could happen.
Oh how i wish we could sign Quaresma!! Every team has someone to fear i.e. Man U Christiano, Liverpool Torres Stevie G, Chelsea terry drogba lamps. Arsenal cesc and i really think we need an addition to that and Quaresma is a very good option. I think he’ll wear the number 8. I have my fingers crosssed wishes do come true…
I was watching videos of Quaresma last night and I really think he is Arsenal material (100%). He would be not only an excellent addittion to the team in terms of chances and goals but another great player to watch.
Ohh Wenger, I know you like his play, I know you like his style, I know you would love to have him on the team under your coaching. Bring his talent to Arsenal and make all of us happy.
Rick (WUI: writing under influence)
After tonightsdismal performance by Lemon for Germany Almunia MUST play on Saturday
Yes, I agree about Almunia coming in for Lehmann.
If Almunia is not recalled for the Spain national team he could play for England.
Arsenal might sign Honduras winger Wilson Palacios for 2 mill after trial !
YES !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Ron - Think you will find that he played on the right, on the left as well as a support striker - you tit.
Even this season so far if he is not playing as a support striker he is moved to the left.
sorry micky cock, u obviously dont me, i enjoy nothing better than winding people up
thats why everyone loves me
Palacios would have permit problems, and Quaresma is 17 million plus which AW would not pay. If we finish fourth will evryone be happy? If Liverpoll win EPL or are runners up then Dein was right we need owners who will bring in stars not a wafer thin squad. There are 60 games thois season including internationals, obviously players will be tired, injured, or suspended, we just dont have depth to cope with this
