Ade and Van Persie set to start 23 August, 2007

Adebayor

Arsene Wenger has confirmed that Alex Hleb wont we playing through the middle all season. I think we all agree that Hleb has done really well here and two goals already this season says a lot. However Arsene’s right in saying that Robin can’t be alone up front in all games, sometimes its better to have two up front. Here’s what Wenger said:

“Alex likes to play through the middle, but I must say if you ask Steven Gerrard or Tomas Rosicky or any of these kinds of creative players then they all say they want to play there. However I cannot isolate Robin van Persie up there the whole year. It does not work on a longer period. It can work in some games but it cannot be the basis of your game. You need two strikers.”

Adebayor is set to make his first appearance of the season on Saturday and I expect it to be him and Van Persie up front, especially with these latest quotes from Wenger. It’s going to be a really tough game this weekend, we really cannot underestimate City. They’re a young side full of confidence, belief and energy and they’ve just had a great min over rivals Man United. They will be coming down to London thinking they can cause an upset. We’ve got to pull together and not let that happen.

If Ade isn’t 100% fit the there’s Eduardo, who scored for Croatia last night, who will be ready and willing to step in. Also there’s the hungry Bendtner who’s desperate for games and would love an opportunity like this. His Denmark lost 4-0 Ireland; Nick hit the crossbar but couldn’t manage a goal. Also Lehmann’s Germany beat England at Wembley last night, I didn’t see the game so I don’t know how well he did. Do you? All the other news from this week’s internationals are here. The good news is, no new injuries to report.

The only other news really is on Gallas’ injury. He came out with quotes saying he’d be out until October but it appears he was talking about the national side and that three weeks we were told by Arsenal still seems correct. The French coach, Raymond Domenech wanted his team doctors to treat Gallas but Wenger insists that his treatments remains under our hands.

Thanks for reading.

Mad Jens was looking well ropey last night. I’m not one for dropping ‘keepers at the first sign of trouble, but he really looks unsettled. Time for a change methinks, let’s have a look at Fabianski Mr Wenger.

COME ON YOU REDS!

2. taiye - 23 August, 2007

the maneger ‘he; arsen wenger should not use lehmann on saturday if he need victory or 3 point to his club because the goalkeper has bee blonder too much almunia or fabiansky should be the favor rite ; good bye for now

3. Aqmar Chowdhury - 23 August, 2007

ADEBAYOR AND PERSIE!! CAN’T WAIT..FOR THE GAME…ON SAT. ALTHOUGH I HOPE ADE. HAS LEARNED 2 FINISH NOW…OTHER DAN DAT THE GY’S GR8 AS A STRIKER…..

PS IS IT JUST ME OR IS BENDTNER REALLY UNDER-RATED AND ACTUALLY BETTER THAN ADE. AND EDUARDO…:s

Dunno about fabianski really. The only time I say him play was either the Emirates Cup or Amsterdam Tournament when he handled the ball outside the area. Was a bit of a blunder and I don’t think I say him have to make another save. Must have been against Inter then.
Think Almunia should have a go.

I’m only praying Gilberto is brought into the team sooner so as to provide cover for the defence especially in the absence of Gallas. All players who played in Copa American games even in the finals are playing so why not Gilberto? Against Blackburn and Fulham our defensive cover were weak as Flamini couldn’t track back quickly. Gilberto has already been named in Brazil’s next friendly matches in the US and Mexico so what’s Arsene waiting for? Is it ‘cos he wants to give Flamini a run of games ‘cos of his sulking last season? And at the expense of Arsenal? Ade is back and hopeful he’s leant lessons from his wasteful plays. He wasted so many scoring opportunities and he’s one of the causes of our goal drought last season that caused us much pain. This is his full two seasons and we’re behind him to produce for us. In an interview at the end of last season he said he could improve so he should do so now. This year is a big one for us without doubt and I’m very hopeful.

Fabianski will be the cup keeper this season i reckon. Get him used to the english game and see how he progresses. If he shows he has what it takes then next season may well see him be our no1

Looking forward to Ade back in the team. He does add a lot to our attacking play. And hopefully he progresses and gets on the scoresheet more often.

7. Howard - 23 August, 2007

No 4. Really some fans like you think Almunia is good but he’s never convinced me as a real number one prospect. He’s always under performed at critical points when needed. Rember his performance when he was brought on in the CL finals and also the Carling Cup. Can he perform well in ‘must win games’ . I doubt it.

8. smithy - 23 August, 2007

lehmans got to be ‘rested’, give almunia a go

city were poor last week at home, 3 0 gunners (that is my prediction at the.angrygrandfather.com

9. DeiseGooner - 23 August, 2007

Although id like to see Eduardo start again. He scored for the Croatian team last night. It was a difficult game to make your debut last week against blackburn and he did well. Id fancy him to score against the city defence. They were well lucky man utd couldnt finish the chances they created. Eduardo would have.

Lehmann wont play. I can 100% guarantee it.

11. defbwoy - 23 August, 2007

yippee mad jens is injurred out for two weeks

12. MJ - 23 August, 2007

Lehman needs to be benched for a while so bring in Almunia for a few games. Ade should play 60 mins or so then bring on the great Dane !!!! Dudu needs to adjust so he should get 15-20 mins too so hopefully by then we’ll be in front and coping well so both Bendtner and Dudu can get a run out.
Any idea who Wenger might tr and get a lastmin.com deal on before the window closes ?/Know we need a left winger but seeing Walcott terrorise the left wing for England under 21′s makes me wonder if he could switch flanks.

13. DeiseGooner - 23 August, 2007

Wasnt Walcott on the left wing for the saints too, when he scored that henryesque goal ?

Almunia
Sagna – Captain Kolo – Swiss Tony – Clichy
Hleb – Cesc – Gilberto – Theo
VanP – Ade

subs – Fabski, Hoyte, Denilson, Eduardo, Bentdner

14. NicktheGooner - 23 August, 2007

Lehmann injured. So almunia it’ll be i guess.

15. El Tommo - 23 August, 2007

Lehman is injured anyway so he’s out. I doubt if Fabianski will start over Almunia but he’s more than likely going to usurp him and probably Lehman – who is a complete dork. Aside from his usual flapping at crosses and being easily wound up he’s now added foolish profligacy to his range of skills. We really have to get rid he’s a bloody liability.

I think we’ll beat City as they were really not very good last week and their results flatter them. Good to see Eduardo getting another goal at international level – gives us some hope for the w/e … if we create our usual number of chances and dominate possession then this should be a good win and maybe a thrashing!

16. jj - 23 August, 2007

almunia is definately in. although he is not and probably never will be a top top keeper he is, for the most part, reliable, and every season he’s been with us he’s improved. give him a run out like in 2004 and hopefully jens will come back at the top of his game again. i think its too early for fabianski but i’ve not seen much of him so don’t really know.

theo really should be playing left wing. he idolised henry and has looked impressive playing there. on the right he doesn’t seem to know whether to take on his man or cut in onto his weaker foot and this slows him down. i’m sure wenger sees this but wants him to develop his left foot and play from the right to make him an all-round striker. we’ll only be able to tell how wise this is in a year or so unless he’s moved to the left this year

17. Jack Scurvy - 23 August, 2007

Looking forward to seeing Ade this weekend. He should be all fired up. But one question remains… Now that Henry is gone: if Ade scores, who will he do his little “swordfight” dance with?

18. ed matthews - 23 August, 2007

Fabianski is the best goalie at the Arsenal; full stop. See for yourself http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WEIdZORCJ9c&mode=related&search=

Ade was as guilty as the entire Arsenal midfield and fellow strikers with regards to missing hat full of chances last season. cheer up fellow gunners, it shall all come together.

PS: Eduado will be the most lethal striker wearing an Arsenal shirt in 12 mths time.

19. Howard - 23 August, 2007

Arsene claims Eboue is still struggling and Ade will play but won’t start. However, Eboue played for his national team for 90 minutes on wednesday and Ade too. He doesn’t want to play Giberto full time yet there’s nothing wrong with him and we need him. Arsene can be difficult at times. We need to win the City match, to build confidence in the team.

xcellent!! Methinks the Ade-RVP combo will go along way and work! The Hleb option can be a back up plan and Lehman needs to sit it out and let the other goalies shine!!
Come On The Arsenal!!!!!!!
