Lehmann out of squad to face Man City 23 August, 2007

It’s just come up on Sky Sports news that Lehmann is injured for two weeks with an achilles injury.

Whether he’s ‘injured’ or not we will never know. However it’s quite likely that he has been dropped, I’ve heard that he didn’t have a great game for Germany either.

I’m guessing it’ll be Almunia coming in for him but I don’t know. More on this and other team news tomorrow.

WELL Wenger is a diplomat and regardless its better to says hes injured and will be away for 2 weeks or more. Almunia is the replacement.

2. DeiseGooner - 23 August, 2007

That does seem to be a tactic of Wengers alright. Almunia it is so. I have to say i have been impressed with him in pre season. He does look to have improved. Lets see if his game has improved enuff to keep the mad one out of the side. Any news at all on Gilberto playing on sat. With him and Ade in the team we look a better unit

3. Bluechester - 23 August, 2007

great news. hopefully having Almunia in goal will unsettle the defence and ensure there’s a Blue Moon at the Emirates…. LOL

4. Goonerstones - 23 August, 2007

Almunia better be on top of his game come saturday. I fear a newborn and confident City side will give him a torrid time. Boy sure don’t feel good about this one.

5. Bluechester - 23 August, 2007

Petrov first goal scorer - you heard it here first. Put a bet on, then at least you win something this weekend… LOL

An injury? or a blessing in disguise?

thank god adebayor’s back.

whether we want to admit it or not, blackburn bossed or midfield in the 2nd half last week. we really missed someone like adebayor with his work-rate and ability to hold up play. frankly, I think wenger was wrong to leave bendter on the bench so long for that game.

Hey Goonstars; Who knows anything about the rumours concerning Wilson Palacios or Luka Modric?

fuck all mate

This is hardly unexpected news after Lehmann`s less than perfect display against England. To be honest I almost punched the air in delight when I heard. Sven would have instructed his players to shoot on sight in the not unreasonable hope that he might flap at the ball. Arsene has clearly told Lehmann that this would be a good time to rest the slight Injury he was carrying into Wednesday`s game. Almunia will not let us down whereas Lehmann might well have done; and we simply CAN`T afford to drop points at home this season.

Maybe Jens isn’t really hurt as bad as he’s saying he is, knowing Arsene would jump at the chance to give him a break for a few weeks? And, maybe that’s just what he needs to get his act together. Still hoping he can pull it together. Although I would like to see what Lukasz Fabianski could do, I don’t want to see it this weekend. Maybe the 2nd leg with Sparta…

Almunia is ready.I think and hope that he proves his doubters wrong now…

Fabianski?? Good Lord, let the man come to grips with English footie first…

13. Howard - 23 August, 2007

Almunia? Let’s pray he doesn’t repeat his mistakes at the CL finals and the Carling Cup finals. He seems to fall short when needed to fall short when needed. Fabianski for me.

14. Mickey C - 24 August, 2007

How is Almunia not rated by more people? He proved last season that he is more than up to the job. The thing people dont look at is that a goal keeper is the only position on the pitch where if you make a mistake then its almost certain to cost you a goal.

Howard above says that he hopes that he dosnt repeat the mistake he made in the Carling Cup final, but it was down to some great saves from Almunia during the competition that we made the final in the first place (not having a go at you Howard)

15. DeiseGooner - 24 August, 2007

13. Howard - if theres a keeper to blame for the champions league its Lehman for getting sent off surely. If he has stayed on then he may have saved at least one of those shots. Almunia played his socks off on that cup run and kept the young lads in games at times.

Almunia has improved - but has he improved enuff ? Now is his chance to prove he has. If he plays well i feel it may be the end of Lehman sooner that expected. He will be gone by the end of this season anyway, but maybe Almunia can take it from him now ?

Howard,
fabianski is untried and would be a big risk putting him in, i’ve been waiting for almunia to get his chance i think he’s world class and if he gets a run i dont see lehmann coming back to be honest. You cant expect almunia to come in 1 game in 20 and put on a top draw performance it doesnt happen, so there’s no blame for him on the champs league final for me, just like DeiseGooner said, like it or not, Lehmann is the true reason we didnt win the champions league.

17. Rock - 24 August, 2007

Kagz,
Wilson Palacios is not joining us he’s on his way to birmingham. Steve Bruce has confirmed wenger has called him and said we already have enough midfielders and has asked bruce to take a look at him, and now he’s pondering a loan move for the Honduran. Obviously wenger has seen him play and doesnt feel he’s gonna add anything to what we already have.

Almunia is great !

19. Manchester City Preview « the-cannon.com - 24 August, 2007

[...] Jens Lehmann picked up an achilles injury after this weeks internationals. Whether that’s a blessing in disguise, something made up by Wenger or an actual injury we wont know but it does seem awfully convenient. Le Boss has confirmed that Almunia will start with a tribute to our no.2. I know Manuel can do the job and I have seen him perform many times. However the biggest positive I’m taking from this is that when Almunia came into he first team ahead of Jens before, it made Lehmann a lot better so maybe something similar will happen again, or maybe this time Manuel will really prove himself with a decent run of games and become our new preferred goalie. Anyone know if there is any truth in us having the young Brazilian forward on trial at the moment (think he is called Franco Dos Santo)?
