Lehmann’s elbow explodes + other injury news 14 September, 2007

Yes you heard it right, as a result of this week’s internationals Jens Lehmann’s elbow has exploded and it can’t have been a pretty sight. It has to be one of the most incredible injuries I have ever heard of. This surely will end Lehmann’s career as a goalkeeper, as I do believe arms don’t grow back. However, if he could get some sort of extendable robot arm then he might just be the greatest ‘keeper ever. Although Gary Lewin will have to consult the FIFA rulebook before creating his Frankenstein’s monster. This is how manager Arsene Wenger broke the news:

“Jens Lehmann pulled out of the second German game. His elbow has blown up.”

A really quite remarkable story, I will get some pictures up as soon as I find some. Keep your eyes peeled on though as the German fan who caught Jens’ forearm is set to make a killing on eBay. It’s must for any Arsenal fan’s mantelpiece.

Apart from that there are no other new injuries to report. Sagna returns from his knock, which is great news. Wenger says “he still has some pain but he should be OK if needed” which doesn’t sound 100% convincing but I expect him to start. Gallas, Senderos and Eboue are all still out though which means Gilberto is expected to play in central defence along with Toure. A good pairing but Arsene says his back up is Alex Song, which is terrifying.

Apparently Van Persie only played 45 mins, not 90 of Holland’s game so hopefully that means he’s a little fresher for tomorrow’s game. With all that news here’s my prediction of the team for the first North London derby of the season:

a1.jpg

I think that 11 is quite predictable and I’d be surprised if it’s much different from that. The only possible differences I see is maybe Hleb playing through the middle with just RVP up front or maybe Eduardo will start after his performances for Croatia.

I think that those players are by far good enough to beat this struggling Tottenham side but we all know this game has nothing to do with the teams on paper; it’s about who fights to the very end, who gets nervous, who relishes the challenge and who has the belief. Last night I started getting goose bumps and hairs standing up thinking about this one, that’s tells you how excited I am.

I did think that if we won this we’d be top of the league but with Man United and Liverpool both in early kick offs it depends on the results in those games. We haven’t been top of the table once in over two years (except at the beginning when we are alphabetically), which is terrible for our standards.

Right that’s it for the Arsenal vs. Tottenham preview. It’s off to the Shithole for me tomorrow and I cannot wait. A match report will come Sunday I guess, until then.

Is this a straight joke man?

2. MagicHat - 14 September, 2007

First cannonball!

Up the Arsenal! Kill the pond scum on Saturday!

3. MagicHat - 14 September, 2007

Boo second cannonball! But third too.

4. Spanish Fry - 14 September, 2007

Cannonball? My god.

Nice post. I can’t see Lehmann playing much more football this season, regardless of whether his arm has blown up or not.

The guy is obviously starting to feel the aches and pains old age and is not the force he once was. Also, he needs to keep his big mouth shut.

Almunia all the way, at this stage.

5. PN - 14 September, 2007

will be diarra or flammini not diaby

-would also like to point out VP doesnt work well with ade or dudu, so if theyre playing VP they should stick hleb up for support and give walcott a run -specially since snga can defend well at right bak

6. eddie - 14 September, 2007

I think Wenger will bin Jens in the summer, sell Almunia too and bring in a TOP quality goalie like Artur Boruc or Craig Gordon for 10m quid. He won’t need to make any other signings (apart maybe from a centre back) as his squad is more or less set for the next 5-10 years.

7. Пламен - 14 September, 2007

Арсенал ще намажат ските на Тотнъм и това е!!!

8. Stevo - 14 September, 2007

Sagna might play central defence in Gilberto is exhausted having just returned from the US with Flamini on the right. Otherwise Flamini will start ahead of Diaby in midfield if not in defence. Diaby will not start at present over Flamini

9. Folasele - 14 September, 2007

I think wenger will definately start Adebayor with RVP in tomorrow’s clash so u got it right. And with Sagna back&Eduado making for his country, they might come in as substitutes.
I also buttress Stevo in that Diaby will not start ahead of Flamini since he his injury free.

10. Bison - 14 September, 2007

Everything’s right except Flamini instead of Diaby unfortunately

11. sanfrangoon - 14 September, 2007

I say sagna plays central defense. Flamini plays on the right and gilberto in the middle. and what I say goes. that is, if I was a billionaire russian. seriously, is there any group of billionaires out there who have more fun than russians? they don’t just buy yachts for themselves. they buy whole teams with huge fanbases so they can toy with us like dolls. now that’s power.

12. arsetard - 14 September, 2007

err.. i think you need to exchange places of van persie and ade on that formation figure of yours… and its ‘excited’ not ‘exited’!

13. a nonny mouse - 14 September, 2007

Hey - no buttressing in here you pervert. Leave Stevo alone.

14. RedLeeroy - 14 September, 2007

just put the Russian post into babelfish, its spat out this

………….”Arsenal cabbage soup namazhat monastery to Totn”m and tova e”

Is it some cryptic clue to saturdays formation ?

15. Rick - 14 September, 2007

Has Diarra even trained for Arsenal yet ?

I hope Diaby will play alongside Cesc, and I would give Eduardo the chance to prove himself against Tottenham. Adebayor lacks the tecnical quality of an Arsenal player. Quality that Dudu, even as a pure striker, has.

I can not wait for the game.

Let´s beat the Spurs.

Rick, actually if you would pair anyone with dudu it would be adebayor. i don’t think rvp and dudu can play together. they’re too similar. plus, I actually saw the dutch game on wednesday. we’ve all noticed in the games so far but rvp is seriously off his game right now.

17. Alex - 14 September, 2007

Get in there gunners !

18. Rick - 14 September, 2007

It would be interesting to see Adebayor with Dudu upfront. However I dont think that AW will seat RVP. Another factor should be how tired will be RVP and Dudu because Adebayor should be fully rested, so that works on his advantage.

Gunners all the way…

Rick

19. Mickey C - 14 September, 2007

I dont think that Eduardo has had enough time to settle and work up a partnership with any of the strikers. It will come, as there is no doubt the boy is class. I agree with Rick that Van Persie will not be on the bench. Van Persie has the agressiveness that is needed to win derby games and although Adebayor is big he is not going to intimidate anyone - he is too nice - oh, and he is shit.

I would not be suprised to see Diarra get some game time at the weekend, it will be interesting to see where he plays.

I predict 3 points for us and Martin Jol getting sacked and doing Grolch Larger commercials (Shtop were not ready yet!) the accent kills me every time I see the advert.

What time is it ? Cant wait for the game…

I had a dream last night, I went to the White Hart Lane Stadium to watch the game, the stadium was full, it was a closed stadium (with a high roof, on my dream of course). The thing is that I couldn´t watch the game for whatever reason… How frustrating.

Anyway. Dudu will score his first EPL goal tomorrow. And I will be able to watch and celebrate it.

34. Ryan - 16 September, 2007

Lehmann’s elbow must have had some magic…

35. Mickey C - 16 September, 2007

ethangooner - I agree with Gunner8, your blog site is shite.

You can’t spell and your grammar is diabolical.

Yesterday’s report was filled with crap like :-

“speaking of quiet RVP hardly made an impact running around arms flailing like a Darlek to no avail.” - Darlek’s don’t have arms.

“One wonders why dudu didn’t see any minutes” - Easy, he was not in the squad.

“im sure we will all be watching the Liverpool game with baited breath !” - The Liverpool game kicked off before our game and what the fuck is “baited breath”????.

“`poor lehmann…he is a great goalie!People forget easily just how much he benefitted Arsenal. His elbow will heal quick..JENS,we want you back in goal!
