It was a good 2-0 win against Newcastle on Tuesday night seeing us through to the next round. To be completely honest I wasn’t fully confident about the game, I had no idea what was going to happen. I only managed to follow the game via text alerts so I didn’t really know what was going on. Every time my phone went of my heart skipped a beat but luckily it was all good news.

You can catch the highlights of the game here and full player reviews are here. Before the game Arsene was talking about Alex Song and by the sounds of things he had a good, solid game at the back, which I for one am very happy to hear.

Nick Bendtner

Denilson scored a screamer in the very last minute to confirm victory. I can’t wait to see September’s ‘goal of the month’ competition, as recently most of our goals seem to be absolute crackers. However it was Nick Bendtner who gave us the lead in the 83rd minute with a header from Traore’s cross. Nicklas was pleased with his goal and now has the ambition to go all the way in this competition, this is what he said when asked whether we can go one better than last year:

“Yes, I think so. It’s a good tournament and of course we all want to win it. The young players all want to play all the games we can. All through the Club, including all the young players, everyone knows what it’s all about and the way to play football. At the moment the confidence is really, really high. Tonight was just another showing of what the Club is going through at the moment. We are doing everything really well. Everyone is really happy and wants to play for the Club.”

I’m really pleased to hear that from him because I’m constantly, really worried about his position in the club. I think he will be important for us in the future, but I know he hasn’t got the patience to wait. From that quote he sounds quite happy but I know he will be thinking about the amount of games he’s getting.

Here’s what Arsene had to say about the game. He talks about the long-range goals we’re scoring instead of trying to walk the ball into the net and how these players are good enough for the first team if they are needed. He also confirmed that we signed Diarra for just £2m. He had a great full-debut and it looks like he’ll be a strong contender for 1st team places very soon.

In the other ties Manchester United were knocked out 2-0 by Coventry! HAHA! Chelsea beat Hull 4-0 and the Scum beat Boro 2-0, wonderful, hopefully we get another chance to knock them out this year. The draw for the 4th round is on Saturday, when we play West Ham away, a preview for that tomorrow. See ya.

1st gun

what a terrific display by diarra … man i am impressed … i think with flamini doing so well and diarra doing wonders in the last game, i think bert is on his way out … i know i am jumping the gun but by this time next year, he might well be playing for some other team …

Dare I say 2nd Gun!

Diaby looks more the part as games go on. Fabulous strikes by our lads.

Hope you wrong about Bert although I can see your point, cos I still think he has a couple of three good years in him in mid or CH, & Flamini could be running on adrenalin so I’m yet to be totally convinced with him, + he’s a loyal man rare breed these days in the mad world of football fantasy wages being paid to ordinary players, let alone to a man of his obvious talents…….
