Blah. Seems most of the real news has run out so I’ll just have to talk about how our players got on in yesterday’s internationals.

Eduardo’s second half goal meant Coatia beat Israel 1-0. It wasn’t a bad goal and you can see a clip of it here. That goal means another win for Croatia and they should qualify for Euro 08. Also in that group, England beat Estonia 3-0. The game saw Sol Campbell return to international football but the main highlight for Arsenal fans will be Ashley Cole. He could’ve claimed a goal after his ball took a wicked deflection and went in past our old goalie Mart Poom. However it was this injury in the second half which would’ve been most pleasing.

Cesc Fabregas’ Spain beat Nicklas Bendtner’s Denmark 3-1. Nick was a 2nd half substitute and came so close to scoring for his country. Iker Casillas blocked a close-range header from Bendtner with his foot and he also hit the bar from 20 yards out. The Spanish ‘keeper was finally beaten after a fine display just before time but Spain were still two goals up at this point; and just to stop any hopes of a Dane comeback they scored again 2 minutes after. Fabregas was taken off with ten minutes to go and put in a decent performance for his country.

Sagna started in France’s 6-0 thrashing of the Faroe Islands. Diarra got 15 minutes when he replaced Makelele but William Gallas could only manage a place on the bench after his recent return from injury. The game saw Thierry Henry break some sort of scoring record for France and he’s been admitting that his departure has helped Arsenal. So all smiles for the French football team as they get back to winning ways but it was a completely different story in the rugby. Haha come on England.

Mad Jens got a clean sheet against Ireland and now he expects to start against Bolton in the Arsenal side. I’m not so sure about that but we’ll see.

That’s about it as far as anything interesting goes in the international world. See you soon.

Eduardo is a goal scoring machine for his adoptive country, it can only be a matter of time before he gets a start for Arsenal. Come January he will have settled in and should feature in more games for us.

Bendtner was very good when he came on and had 3 really good chances, including one in the woodwork.

Everybody is talking down Jens because he made two mistakes at the beginning of the season. Don’t you know Jens is better than Amunia? He’s a winner who has won us cups and titles and is the only GK with the experience to help us challenge for the title this season. Almunia is good but hasn’t got what it takes in the big games. Review our games with Spurs, Serville, portsmouth, Bucharest and Sunderland just to prove that we’re living on borrowed time, running our lick. Don’t think Almunia can deliver us the title.

I think we’ll have a new keeper in January. Probably someone experienced and stable for 1 or 2 years, like the Bolton guy. Personally, I’d like to see Akinifov in the side, but it’s not going to happen. If Fabianski doesn’t cut the mustard, we’ll muddle through until we stumble across the next Jens.

I think the reaction to Lehman’s comments is blown out of proportion. In the interview (http://link.brightcove.com/services/player/bcpid1126121770?bctid=1243520783) he says that he is hopeful that the coach will play him this weekend, not that he demands that he play him this weekend. He then says that now that he is “healthy”, he expects to play. While he can be unsettling to the defense on the pitch, there is nothing in the interview that suggests that he is going to go postal on Wenger or Almunia if he doesn’t start v Bolton.

It’s brilliant to see both Eduardo and Bendtner playing well internationally, it can only bode well for us when the fixtures pile up in December. Ade-RVP and Bendtner-Eduardo — two big-man/small-man combos, all with skill and strength… one pair can play on the weekend and one midweek, allowing the other pair to rest and recuperate… I really hope this depth in talent lets us progress on all fronts.
