…yawn

Well there comes a time in some games when you really cant be bothered to write anything about a game. 0-0′s can sometimes be quite exiting but this was not an example of this. From 7-0 to 0-0. Anyway the point was enough to see us through to the knockout stages and that’s that.

It was a somewhat ‘Carling Cup side’. Only Almunia, Clichy and Gallas started last night and our last game against Man United. The rest of the team was made up of Song in defence, Diarra at right back, Walcott, Gilberto, Denilson, Diaby in midfield and Eduardo and Bendtner upfront. It wasn’t a bad side but it did seem quite mix and match.

Slavia must have felt a bit embarrassed by the 7-0 defeat and set out to stop it happening again. It’s fair to say they went for the 0-0 but they had some decent chances forcing Almunia into action a few times. Lehmann, watching from the bench must’ve felt that he’s going to have to work hard to get those gloves back on and playing again. I think I’d have to say Almunia was man of the match. I don’t know who else it could possibly go to?

Walcott looked far from the player we saw against Slavia at home. In fact the whole attacking half didn’t look very creative. Adebayor came on late in the game and had a decent chance with a header about 5 minutes from the end. Apart from that we created nothing decent. I can’t be angry with the players and say the performance was bad, it just wasn’t that good. I like Jeff Stelling’s comment, sums it up nicely:

“Even the most beautiful women don’t always look their best.”

We go into a busy period of matches soon and a lot of these players will be hoping to get a game during this time. Hopefully we’ll see something better from them if they do get selected.

Just a final thought. Is this how we play when Francesc Fabregas isn’t around? Hmm.

If you want a proper match report, here you go. Just don’t fall asleep reading it. See ya.
