Lehmann / Clichy

Not a great deal of news this Christmas Eve. Just two stories that are really of any interest. The first being Jens Lehmann’s confession that he’s lost his place in the Arsenal side. I think we all saw the pictures of him sitting on the bench while Manuel Almunia, who Jens just cant get enough of criticising saved a vital penalty. When Keane’s spot kick was saved, I think that was the very moment Almunia cemented his place in the first eleven.

I do really feel sorry for Jens though. He was an amazing ‘keeper but absolutely mental. You had to love his degree of inanity but as an Arsenal fan it was sometimes very scary. He was capable of pulling of magnificent saves, yet five minutes later do something really stupid, and in the first few games this season that’s exactly what happened and it cost us points. Here’s what he said about a move away from Arsenal:

“I should know more in a week, so that I can make a decision in the first days of the New Year. I’ve listened to something, but at the moment I can’t say much about it.”

He also said that he hasn’t spoken to Man City who have been linked with a move. The most likely option would be for him to go back to Germany. He needs first team action, which is completely understandable, so good luck to him. He won over a lot of Arsenal fans, I was one of many that weren’t happy with him as the next David Seaman in our team but I grew to really like him. His highlight of his career was the 2006 Champions League run; it’s just such a shame that when he made it to the final he was dismissed so early. If he never got sent off God know what might’ve happened in that game.

Right, that’s my Lehmann tribute. So yeah, it looks like he’s off next month. Cheers Jens.

Nick Bendtner

On the other end of the scale, a player who is just emerging into the team is Nicklas Bendtner. That header on Saturday will give him so much confidence that he can really do with at this stage of his career. I’ve always like Nick, I used to go and watch him play for the Arsenal reserves regularly. He and Arturo Lupoli formed a great partnership and were banging in the goals. It’s just Nick’s attitude that’s sometimes annoyed me…

He’s a young player and often he or his dad used to come out saying that they demand a first team place for Nick of he’s off. He’s only young and still developing and you can’t, at that age, just expect to walk into a team that’s top of the Premiership. I think he’s come to accept that now and he’s just getting on with it. I haven’t heard anything from him or his dad about wanting a starting place. He’s completely changed his tone now and he’s saying all the right things:

“I’ll do whatever I can and won’t rest until I get into the team. That is all I have on my mind and all I think about. I’m staying here no matter what happens. My feelings this year are with the club and I want to play for Arsene. Moving now or going on loan would not be what I want.”

That’s great to hear, because I was always worried that he’d move on but he looks like he’s got potential. I don’t think he’s quite earned himself a starting place yet but we know what he can do and it wont be very long until he’s an important part of our team.

Right I’ve got to go now, but have a great Christmas Eve, don’t get too drunk. I should speak to you tomorrow, I usually get stuffed drunk bored in the afternoon and wonder over to the computer. Until then my friends.

It is sad to see Jens go as he has been oustanding for the club. Regarding his special character, I have only found that entertaining. If he has done stupid mistakes, then he has also made saves that was not possible, so I was always happy to forgive him that.

People should not forget that our team was very poor at defending set pieces after Viera left, so when he went out at balls where outhers would have been standing on the line was admirable and he did it to protect the kids.

Hello Guys,

Concerning the game …. I am happy we won even though we played badly.

I was sad that Everton lost the chance to take points of MANUSA.

I really would not want Lehmann to leave Arsenal, yet Almunia is trying but I am still not completely convinced. I find it funny that people blame Lehmann for the CL final loss. Almunia actually let in two goals via his near posts. “Not Lehmann”

For the record please “emmanuel adebayor” is not the correct spelling of the guys name (even though I don’t know why he himself is using that spelling).

First of all I am a Nigerian and a Yoruba, hence it is easy for me to know that Emmanuel Adebayor is a Yoruba Man …. because the name “Adebayor” is an anglicised version of a Yoruba name. How do I know this you might ask. Because the surname Adebayor is actually an anglicised version. The correct version is “Adebayo” . The little “r” at the end of his name, I guess is just for the sake of pronunciation, since I think Foreigners tend to slaughter/ pronounce the name incorrectly when the little “r” is not used.
Also as far as I know…..There are Yorubas in Togo, Benin and Nigeria. Hence it is difficult pinning down which particular country he actually came from. Selfish Colonization and foreign partitioning of Africa (by Ingiland, France, German Deutsch etc)resulted in people of the same Ethnic being grouped into different countries.
The only thing you can be sure off about “Emmanuel Adebayor” is that “Emmanuel Adebayo” is a Yoruba man. We still cannot be sure wether or not he is from Nigeria, Togo or Benin.

Finally, let me deep further some yoruba people also went to Coted’voire (Ivory Coast) for reasons known to them (although Yorubas are not native to Cote’D'voire)in the past, hence you might have names from there resembling Yoruba names, which is why I have always tend to suspect that Didier Drogba of the Russian Blue Rubbles is actually a Yoruba man deep down.
Reason is that the surname “Drogba” becomes interesting when you realise that the name can actually be formed from the Yoruba name known as “Aderogba” I guess that due to French influence, other cultural influences removing the part “ADE” from “ADErogba” makes it become “rogba”. Then add a capital “D” probably due to the french nature of Cote’D'voire or France and you are left with “drogba” or better still “Drogba”.
Any Nigerian or Yoruba person on this blog would probably understand what I am talking about.

sysuser - your post sent me to sleep twice - what the fuck are you jibbering on about? who cares how he spells his name? He can call himself Bob if he wants to as long as he plays well and keeps scoring.

Nobody complains about Ronaldinho not actually being called Ronaldinho or Ronaldo (the buck tooth fat Brazilian) not being called Ronaldo, so why would they be bothered about Adebayor?

jens lehmann please do not leave arsenal i will tell arsene wenger that u want your place back.

Sy Suser, You surely do not know. Emmanuel Adebayor is Yoruba, but from Togo. His parents actually moved to Togo and probably had him in Eyademaland. His middlename Youruba name is actually “Oluseyi”. So Oluwa-tise-eyi (God has perfected this one) I actually had a colleague in my Masters Programme class in 1991, who is both Togolese and Nigerian, because his parents migrated to Togo from a town in Western Nigeria called Ipetumodu in present day Osun State in Nigeria. You have about 4 million Yoruba in Republic of Benin, about 1 million in Togo and Over 1 million in Cote D’Ivoire.

Mickey C will probably not understand, cause he is not from West Africa and probably not interested in the remotely cornered “Dark Continent”. But he also has a point-in that it does not really matter to Arsenal or we the fans. He should just score the goals. For him its about money and getting dumped as a player, when you no longer can cope. Shareholders rule. Capitalism at its best. I dont blame them. You cannot convince them from being mean. It is the nature of the bankrupt world.

Cheers,

I applaud the pride of my fellow Yoruba…
