Old Trafford trip in FA Cup: Draw must’ve been fixed 28 January, 2008

The FA Cup draw
was made this lunchtime and we’ve been picked to face Manchester United at Old Trafford. I’m sorry, but don’t we always get a hard tie in the draw? We got Burnley in the 3rd round, that’s not bad but they’re still not bad. There were 6 Premiership teams in today’s draw and I was certain we’d get one of them. What’s more annoying is that Chelsea always get the easiest draw; they’ve got Huddersfield Town at home. It’s stupid the amount of times we draw Premiership teams. Maybe it’s something to do with being ball no.1? Maybe it’s something to do with Roman Abramovich and some cheeky payments to Trevor Brooking?

Anyway, it’s a massive tie and by far the game of the round. It’s a few days before the 1st leg of the Champions League knockout games too so it’ll be interesting to see if anyone is rested. I have a feeling Arsene would’ve planned to play a second string 11 in this match but now he’s seen we’ve got United away he might think differently. The result in this game can have a big effect on our performance against AC Milan and indeed it can have a physiological effect in the title race.

We’ll think about the game in more depth nearer the time; the game will be played on either the 16th or 17th of February.

We’ve got a little bit of injury news today. Toure picked up a groin problem away with the Ivory Coast but he’s only going to be out for 8-10 days. Rosicky had to come off after 10 minutes on Saturday but his hamstring doesn’t look that bad, he’ll miss tomorrow night’s game but he might be ok for the weekend. Also, van Persie is returning to training on Tuesday but, of course, he won’t be available for another two or three weeks.

There’s a brilliant quote from Adebayor about the Bendtner incident:

“We are big guys, so we talk about it. It is behind us already. I am No 25, and he is No 26, so in the dressing room we sit very close. Sometimes it does happen. A child can fight with his father, and they are still friends again.”

So the message to Nick is: “Who’s your daddy?” Heh. In all seriousness, I think they’ll be over it now, it really wasn’t anything much and tempers do go wild when you’re 4-0 down to the scum.

Wenger’s also been talking about playing Walcott on the wing and Lehmann starting in the FA Cup.

I’ll write up a match preview either tonight or tomorrow for the Newcastle game. Until then.

on that RVP news, 2-3 weeks from Tuesday is just about in time for the Man U FA cup and Milan games. I wonder if he’ll be in a position to come straight back into the team for those games? in some ways I’d be a little bit worried about that, particularly the Milan game where we need to have a team that is all at 100%. ideal would be 90mins at OT then a subs bench appearance against Milan.
anyway, he will probably pick up another injury in training so its not worth thinking about.

Yeah, Burnley. A really tough draw that one!!!

5. Fran - 28 January, 2008

The draw is fixed. I don’t believe that Chelsea and Pool can get such easy draws!

It’s bull.

It happens – shit happens. Just take what’s thrown at us.

No way will he play a strong team at OT,the Milan game a few days later is much more important game. Remember when we have played Manure in the FA cup before they have kicked us off the pitch i.e semi 2004.We must have our strongest team available v Milan

Fuckers,

Let’s not be a fucking bunch of fucking whinging, moaning fuckers. That’ll be a fucking tragedy of fucking epic proportions. If we want to be the fucking best, we have to beat the fucking best. Bring’em on, I say. Fuck it. Bring ‘em all on. I want to see Chelsea in the next fucking round, Liverpool after that… we’re good enough to fuck ‘em all over without heavy breathing.

‘chef, Adebayor is fucking delusional. He equates himself as a “father” and Bendtner as his fucking son?! Fucking hell. I don’t recall my father telling me that he’s “only there because you’re fucking shit”. If Adebayor is serious about being a fucking father, he needs a few fucking parental classes in building a child’s fucking self-esteem. Calling your fucking progeny “fucking shit” and then head-butting him isn’t the fucking way of doing it. If that’s the way that fucker thinks a parent should behave, I feel sorry for HIS fucking kids. If his scion trips when learning to walk, will Ade tell him/her that they’re “fucking shit”, and then head-butt them until they get up? Fuck no… at least I fucking hope not.

It’s of no use complaining abt tough draw. If u want to b the best, u’ve got to beat the rest, be it Premiership, Championship, Div 1 or Non League teams.

In my opinion, Man Utd has till date got the toughest draws & we don’t hear them complaining abt it. They just get on wz it wz the likes of Villa, Spurs & now, Arsenal. Assuming that they do get past the Gunners, wh I truly believe they will, it wudn’t be a surprise if they are to be drawn wz yet another Premiership team.

Thus, it’s wz this kind of mentality & attitude tt they truly deserve to be crowned Winners in this season’s FA Cup!.

[...] FA Cup fifth round draw was an exciting one as Manchester United will take on Arsenal in a mouth watering tie. It will sure be a cracker between the top two teams in the EPL facing off [...]

16. Mike - 29 January, 2008

haha, I love the Adebayor quote. Considering he’s scored 32% of Arsenal’s league goals, it’s safe to say that he is indeed Bendtners daddy.

17. Ryan - 29 January, 2008

Apparently that headbutt claim was entirely made up by the media. There’s such a lack of evidence that I’m pretty sure people can say regardless of if he reacted badly, he wasn’t violent. Even if he ‘raised his hand’. I mean lol, when someone ‘raised their hand’ to you last time was it some major painful incident? No.

Fans and players alike need to stop blowing everything so far out of proportion. Also I’m not sure he’s really comparing himself to being Nik’s father that seriously. I got the impression he’s just taking the first example that came into his head of someone in a more senior position coming to help the ‘lower’ person’s cause.

18. Ryan - 29 January, 2008

I mean not that Henry wasn’t one of our best players ever and all, but in his final years he had a number of bad games in which he still had a go at players who were actually playing better than him for making inexperienced decisions. Nobody ever really said that Henry was out of order getting pissed off at others when he played badly himself in the same game, so I think the fact that Ade’s been doing so well lately makes it an arguably more forgivable situation.

Not that either is unforgivable, like I said, it’s all just been blown out of proportion by the media who want a big story about Arsenal collapsing.

We would only get em in the next round anyway… there is no such thing as an easy cup run!
