Newcastle Preview: We can go top tonight 29 January, 2008

So it’s back to the Premier League tonight after those cup games and win or draw tonight and we go top. Man United play Portsmouth tomorrow evening so lets hope Dolphinhead and the gang can get a result at Old Trafford. I say if we draw tonight we can go top, but if we only came away with the one point you’d have to be quite disappointed; not only do we know that Newcastle are a team we can beat, it also gives United a chance to open gap on us.
A win here tonight is pretty much vital. We’re at that stage in the season where any slip up can cause a dramatic effect. Fabregas has reminded his team mates how important these games are.
We beat tonight’s opponents 3-0 at the weekend, so we know we can do it. However it is interesting to see how Keegan might approach this game different, tactically. It will be a test because he sort of knows that if he goes out with the same approach he may well get beaten comfortably again. We will have to be on our toes.
We’ll be back to our preferred 11 tonight. I believe we only have 16 players fully fit, so we don’t really have much choice in terms of the squad but the first 11 will look something like this:
Almunia
Sagna – Senderos – Gallas (c) – Clichy
Walcott – Fabregas – Flamini – Hleb
Adebayor – Eduardo
It’s either going to be Walcott or Diaby (who has just been offered a new deal) on the wing with Hleb on the other flank. I’d go for Theo, his pace really caused Newcastle problems, they couldn’t deal with him, so I’d play him again. On the other hand, his impact value as a sub is equally as important so I can understand if Diaby starts on the left win tonight.
We cannot be complacent tonight. You’d think with playing the same team only three days ago we’d know what to expect but it’s completely the opposite. It’s a bit like when someone has to take two penalties between in one game against the same ‘keeper: Do they go the same way? Or will they try something different?
Anything like the weekend’s result would be great, and if it all goes brilliantly to plan we also have a goal difference to catch up on with United. Let’s not get too confident tonight. I’m going to predict 2-0, Adebayor and Fabregas with the goals; he’s due one. Thanks for reading.
Agreed on the result front but I think Adebayor to score first and Eduardo to score in the 2nd half. 2 nil and we claw back some of the 6 or so we’re down on goal difference at the moment.
hi i think its going to be alot harder tonight cant see us scoring 3 again. our big positive is hleb playing as he was rested on saturday. i cant see our boys being over confident but think 1-0 with eduardo scoring is more realistic.
More would be nice though but 3 points is the objective

Id play Theo on the left. Thats where he plays for england U21 and also where he caught the eye when with Southampton.
Most important thing is the points 2nite.. why are people lookin at the goal difference.. as long as we win i aint fussed!! Heard Viduka is playing, so we gotta be careful, him and Owen up front looked quite dangerous when i saw them play at the start of the season.
But we are Arsenal.. so if we go about are game as normal, are high tempo passing and attacking will get the better of any team. Comfortable 3 points for me. Would like to see Diaby start in place of Walcott who i agree with you, will make a better impact from the bench 2nite. Diaby is a bit more sound defensively, in terms of his strength.
I heard he was a striker for Southampton, he just sometimes drifted wide. But I didn’t watch him so I wouldn’t know.
3 points boys come on and let’s scrape some goals back on Utd. It would be great if we can win by more goals than them, especially if we win by 2 or more than them. Ideally they would drop points at Pompey and we’ll win by a couple of goals making it notably closer, but hey this is just me dreaming

I would start with Diaby and Hleb on the wings and have Theo as super-sub. He has had a much greater impact in games when coming on to run at tired defenders.
yes Diaby to start for me and then Theo later. I dont know whether or not theo was a striker or left winger but if you look at most of his southampton goals (on YouTube) he came from a left hand side position. that indicates that he found it more natual from that position. I would rather see theo used on the left than right but wenger sees him very much as a right winger.
My only worry tonight is Viduka on Senderos. might be a bit like Drogbreath on Sendy. but we should win this one.
