Injury Crisis at Arsenal 9 February, 2008

Wenger

I cannot emphasise enough how much I loathe these pointless international friendlies. I said at the beginning of the week that we couldn’t afford any more injuries this week, and I was right but it never stopped them going and getting injured did it? Like fuck it did. We’re now down to the very bare bones, here’s how our squad stands at the moment:

    1. Lehmann - fit
    2. Diaby - calf problem
    3. Sagna - fit
    4. Fabregas - fit
    5. Toure - ANC*
    6. Senderos - knee ligament damage*
    7. Rosicky - another hamstring problem
    9. Eduardo - fit!
    10. Gallas - fit!
    11. van Persie - thigh injury, long way off
    13. Hleb - fit
    15. Denilson - hamstring
    16. Flamini - hamstring*
    17. Song - ANC Final
    19. Gilberto - fit
    20. Djourou - groin problem
    21. Fabianski - fit
    22. Clichy - fit
    24. Almunia - he’s ill*
    25. Adebayor - fit, thank god
    26. Bendtner - fit
    27. Eboue - ANC
    30. Traore - fit
    31. Hoyte - fit
    32. Walcott - fit

There you have it. There are only 14 names there with the word ‘fit’ next to them, two of which are goalkeepers. That’s not even a full squad! There are some ‘possibiles’ though, I’ve put asterisks next to the few of those that might make it. Kolo Toure plays the 3rd & 4th place play-off today in the African Nations Cup but Arsene says he might need to call him back for Monday night for Senderos. Phil picked up a knee injury against England but Arsene says, “He has played with it before and we’ll see on Monday.” I guess that one’s a case of how bad it is but if he’s out then either Kolo’s going to need to come back or it’s Gilberto or Hoyte at the back. Toure will be knackered after a busy tournament in Ghana so I doubt he’d be fully fit for a Monday night game.

Almunia had a thumb problem last weekend but he’s recovered from that only to fall ill this week. They’re going to see how he feels this weekend but to be honest he’s the least of my concerns, I’ve got now problem with Lehmann in goal. Flamini also has an asterisks next to him, Wenger says we ‘might have lost him’ , so again with him we’ll just have to wait and see.

Thankfully we’ve still got Hleb, Gallas, Fabregas, Clichy, Sagna, Adebayor and Eduardo. Luckily a lot of our injuries are to some of our least important players; I suppose we have to be grateful for that. Hopefully one or two will find enough fitness over the weekend to play on Monday night but more build up to that game tomorrow.

In other news Wenger has been talking about the idea to stage a Premiership game abroad. He thinks it’s an innovative idea, which will allow a lot of supporters to see their team when they could not before. However he says if it’s just about money then it’s not worth doing. I’m a bit shocked by Arsene’s comments but apparently he’s said in the papers today that he’s more against it than he is for it.

Gilberto feels left out. He’s saying he had a great season last season and fully expected to play this year but that hasn’t been the case. I feel really sorry for him, because yes he did play really well as captain last season in Henry’s absence, and I was shocked when he didn’t take the armband for this term. However Wenger had other plans and I’m afraid that Arsene was right, the Brazilian has lost a lot in his game this season and he will be moving on in the summer. A real shame but everyone’s time has to come to an end one day.

That’s your lot for the day, speak to you tomorrow at some point. See ya.

Why did we sell Diarra again?
He’d signed a contract hadnt he?
He wanted first team football didnt he??????

Blimey, i must be a fool, because I cant see why we let him go.

2. Justin - 9 February, 2008

Because his attitude was crap. Pure and simple. We don’t need his sort, injury crisis or not. I’d rather have Cygan playing for us (because of his great attitude) rather than that shite Diarra.

Word.

3. Wrighty7 - 9 February, 2008

Cygan!!!!!!!!!!!

4. Passenal - 9 February, 2008

Orson, because as good as Arsene is, he does not have a crystal ball and as Justin says it was Diarra who was too impatient to see that he would have opportunities like this to play.

5. lasagnechef - 9 February, 2008

We did not want Diarra to go, he wanted to leave. Nothing we could do about it.

6. Goons_with_Guns - 9 February, 2008

Settle down, now, there is no injury crisis–yet. I don’t even want to mention that petulant, vapid, egg-headed Frenchie midfielder’s name again in any discussion.

7. Harry's golden egg - 9 February, 2008

Diarra wanted to be guaranteed first team football week in week out which doesn’t happen at a club like Arsenal unless you’re the dog’s bollocks and although Diarra is good, he wasn’t good enough to automatically dislodge Flamini.
So he got the hump and started complaining through the media that ’someone’ at Arsenal, although not AW god forbid, had misled him when he transfered from Chelsea.
He had chances to impress and indeed he played brilliantly (except against Boro) and then when Flamini was selected ahead of him again he started to moan again like a broken record.
I would imagine that AW asked Gallas to have a word in Diarra’s shell- like to explain the facts of life, but sadly Diarra is both stupid and stubborn so Billy’s advice didn’t sink in.
AW accepted at that point that the bloke has a blind spot in his personality and therefore had to go asap because he was having a negative effect on the other players and AFC was able to make money from his transfer.
Diarra’s blind spot is that he is not prepared to be told what’s what and what’s not by his boss, and his last two bosses happen to be two of the best football managers in the world, namely Mourinho and Wenger.
Even though Diarra doesn’t know this, he will probably be a big fish in a small pond for the rest of his career because of his personality.
I say probably because Harry ‘the finest second hand car salesman in the premier league’ Rednapp will build his team around Diarra and insodoing may be able to finish 4th when he gets his platoon back from Africa. If that were to happen and Liverpool, for example, needed a decent midfielder next season they might throw some money at Harry and take him up north.
I can see it all now-Diarra finally gets the respect he feels he deserves. They win the UEFA cup or something but the following season our hero gets the hump because he wasn’t made captain so he talks himself back to old Uncle Harry and the process starts again.
Maybe he’ll start a trend.

8. UNPREDICTABLE - 9 February, 2008

Hey guys, it shall be well with the squad, u are right Justin, we don’t like such players, even if u are the best in the world, we need dedicated footballers who are ready to die for the team, we will win on monday no matter who will be drafted into the squad, keep things tight

9. akmal - 9 February, 2008

We have many young talent.. so use it now…

10. Eddy - 9 February, 2008

One issue I have in your analysis of the injured players that I really hope you are wrong about and that is RVP’s condition. There were reports that he was back in training about 7 days ago and the Arsenal.com website reports Arsene doesn’t want to rush him back so I pray that you are wrong about him being a long way from returning to play first team football as with Manchester United and Milan fast approavhing in cup competitions we could do with a few more of our players like RVP and Rosicky returning from injury.

11. Segun - 9 February, 2008

I knw we will win ,no matter d injury.

12. Chevre chaude - 9 February, 2008

Segun
I hope ur right
PS. The reason why Conollys Agent isnt here today is because i shot him 9 times biut i made sure he is was still breathing. Aren’t i kind

15. Connolly's agent - 10 February, 2008

Chevre Chaude, when did I make a racist comment? I insulted your “worth”, your sex appeal, your taste in women… I could go on, but I’d rather not. The fucking point is that I NEVER racially abused you. I slate fuckers of ALL races, you fuckwit. By the way, you DON’T call a fucker a “racist white bastard” without coming off like a complete toss-pot. Look up “hypocrite” in the fucking dictionary and then come back with a better insult, you fucker.

And I won’t stand by while you fuckers badmouth Diarra. That fucking lad’s the fucking dog’s bollocks, for fuck’s sake. Fucking great fucker, he left before his time had come. Fucking hell, he’s one dumb fuck. After moving to Portsmouth, he’s STILL behind FlimFlam in the France squad. Didn’t the fucker realise that the easiest way to displace the Fugly Fucker was to take over his place at Arsenal? Fucking hell - all his fucking brains are in his fucking boots.

16. Connolly's agent - 10 February, 2008

And ‘chef, you’re overreacting. Injuries aside, it still leaves us with a squad like this:

Lehmann
Hoyte Sagna Gallas Traore
Hleb Fabregas Gilberto Clichy
Eduardo Adebayor

You wouldn’t want to play Man Utd with that, but it’s okay.

17. FlamBlam - 10 February, 2008

From what I can make out neither Toure nor Eboue started the 3rd place play off against Ghana so if they’re fit they should both be available for Monday night.

18. FlamBlam - 10 February, 2008

Yeah, both were unused substitutes.

19. FrenchGun - 10 February, 2008

Fucking fuck to rhe fuck!! When the fuck did that fucking fucker started fucking with my fucking self?

Connolly’s agent, are you inventing a new dialect?

20. Q - Arsenal Way - 10 February, 2008

I’d love to think the Ivory Coast coach rested them for us, although the reality is that they were both embarrassingly shit against Egypt, especially Toure. It was scary watching the game to be honest. I’m just glad he got that one terrible game that all defenders have out of his system with them and not with us.

I’m also glad to see that the coach started both Drogba and Kalou, and that they lost 4-2, which comes to prove that they can be shit even without our boys!

21. Segun - 10 February, 2008

U knw what ,i just heard dat manunited 1 -2 mancity.come on boy go for victory againt blackburn.

22. Conolly's agent - 10 February, 2008

chef you are so stupid diarra left because he wasnt playing he needed top play to retain is plaice in the france squad and now he is fucking playing wicked at pompey
do why dont you SHUT THE FUCK UP

23. lasagnechef - 10 February, 2008

Piss of you knob.

That’s what I said anyway, he left becasue he wanted to play and we couldn’t guarantee that to him. He’s a good player, never wanted him to go, so it’s no suprise he’s doing well at Pompey. We should’ve sold Cesc instead should we and kept Diarra?

Fuck off and go and write your pointless comments on some other blog.

24. Connolly's agent - 10 February, 2008

Frenchie, this is the way my fucking collective speaks. It’s called “keeping it fucking real”, okay? Only pretentious fuckers speak with hoity-toity airs and pretend to be fucking genteel. REAL fuckers talk in fuck-speak.

‘chef, don’t bother fucking around with these fuck-wit jerk-offs who ape my fucking ways. They’re not worth the tissue you’ve used to wipe away those sulky tears. But I’ve got to take issue over something; it’s fucking silly to suggest we should’ve sold Cesc to keep Diarra. The fucker who should’ve left was Flamini; most fuckers on this fucking site would agree that Diarra IS the best player in the long-term.

25. lasagnechef - 11 February, 2008

Jesus christ you are stupid aren’t you? I was being sarcastic about Cesc, to show you that we have muc better players at Arsenal than Diarra. Including Flamini. Looks, he’s gone now, no one really wanted him to, but he’s gone. We’ve got more than enough talent to cope.
