Liverpool Preview I: Just Don’t Concede 1 April, 2008
Posted by lasagnechef in Champions League.trackback

This is part one of a trilogy of Liverpool Previews and this is where it all begins. 3 games against Liverpool and then a decisive game against Man United, these games will decide our season. It’s a massive game for both teams and it’s bound to be a bit of a nervous game. Arsenal and Liverpool both have a lot to play for tomorrow night and it being the first leg, I have a feeling that we’re going to be a bit cautious.
By the way when I say we, I mean us and them. I don’t think it’s that we’re going to be nervous, we’ve been in good games like this before and you’d hope that our professionals don’t let nerves ruin their game. I just feel that with it being the 1st leg, both teams won’t want to make a mistake and perhaps they wouldn’t be as adventurous as they would be in the 2nd leg if they needed a goal.
So it could be a bit of a stalemate tomorrow night. A 0-0 would suit us, a 1-1 would suit Liverpool. At this stage I think our aim has to be to not concede. If it’s a score draw tomorrow night I’m not going to be very comfortable going into the second leg. They are going to come to Ashburton Grove wanting to score an away goal. They’re going to have to be careful at the same time though, it’s our job to punish Liverpool if they push too far forward.
A 1-0 win or even two or three nil would be great; I’d be really pleased with that. We’re capable of beating them, it was 1-1 earlier in the season but we beat them 3-0 here last year.
I think our aim has to be to stop the Liverpool attack scoring; which is going to be difficult because Torres can’t seem to stop at the moment. Shame he couldn’t fucking score against United but there you go. He scored their winner against Everton on Sunday and the Scoucers will be looking for him to do it again tomorrow night. We need to keep an eye on him, don’t let him have a good night and close him down.
I think we’ll go 4-4-2, I don’t really see why we wouldn’t; but you know Wenger, he’s bound to stick one of our strikers out on the wing for some period of the game. Theo Walcott played really well when he came on against Bolton but I think Wenger’s going to continue his obsession with starting Emmanuel Eboue. Maybe Wenger believes that Theo has such an impact as a substitute that he leaves him on the bench. However you have to consider how much of his ‘impact’ is just an improvement from what Eboue had previously been doing on the right flank:
Toure – Senderos – Gallas (c) – Clichy*
Eboue* – Fabregas – Flamini – Hleb*
Adebayor* – van Persie
The players with a yellow star next to their name are on yellow cards and it if there were to get booked in this first game then they’d miss the second leg. For Liverpool Gerrard, Carragher and Aurelio are on bookings, if Gerrard or Carragher picked up yellows tomorrow night that’d be a massive boost for us; maybe it’s worth tempting Gerrard into tackles just to get him booked?!
I think Toure will start at right back again. I think it’s too risky to play Hoyte, I could see Eboue playing there and Walcott playing on the wing. That would mean dropping Toure though. In the middle Flamini is going to be crucial again. He’ll control things in the middle and make sure Gerrard doesn’t have it all his own way. He’s been linked with a move to Juve in today’s papers, there’s nothing wrong with Mathieu talking to them, he’s allowed to now his contract ends in the summer. However Arsene said today that the story is untrue and that he spoke to them on the phone personally and they weren’t trying to sign him.
We need to make it a top atmosphere tomorrow night, I knew quite a few people who read my site go to the games so I’m asking you, please, sing up. I know you wont listen to a word I’m saying, you’re probably not even reading this properly…just sort of scanning through the words blah blah blah blah. But I’m talking to you, yes you, go on that’s it, point to yourself yes that it. Now I’m asking you to do your best to join in the singing tomorrow night, when we go up to Anfield next week it’s going to be fucking loud so we need to make our home advantage count.
I really excited now, I hope the players are looking forward to it too and they can channel that into producing good performances.
Right I’m off now, enjoy the game and I’ll speak to you at some point tomorrow. Thanks for reading.

Hope we win. Roma are playing shit at d moment
To me it’s most important to win. The three games will be so close that edging ahead in one can be decisive.
I was more excited for Milan game.
RVP is due a few goals! everyone’s talking about Torres but seem to have forgotten about him!
So how many times is that now for Manure on ITV1?
chef
i thought you were going skiing today
From Arsenal.com:
“No,” he said defiantly. “Juventus called me and told me that they were not interested in Mathieu Flamini.”
Do Juve often inform Wenger of players they have no intention of signing?
Juve called me today and told me that their players wouldn’t be signing my willy as I’d requested.
Mother fuckers.
EA25, na I’m going skiing the day after the 2nd leg.
Juventus are a very classy club and it wouldn’t suprise me if they saw they rumours and did actually give Arsene a call.
lasagne chef,
Extremely classy?, relegated for Match fixing weren’t they?
There about as classy as my ass
drop toure? you muppet we were 2 down at the weekend when senderos was taken off, and we did not concede after that. i say play eboue or hoyte at RB with walcott on the wing.
Play toure right back and Theo wide right.Eboue is a fucking clown
If Lehmann leaces in the summer we wont need another keeper we got Bendtner he’s as fucking good as schmeichal
1-1 fucks sake. liverpool may think they have the advantage but we have only failed to score in about 4 games. looks like we have to win at anfield or draw 2-2.
Arsenal are fucking with my head. Arsenal hate me with a fucking vengence. There’s no other fucking reason they play like the fucking dog’s bollocks and still contrive to draw against a fucking insipid Liverpool. There’s no other fucking reason Bendnter would make an amazing clearance off Reina’s goal-line. There’s no other fucking reason the ref would pay such a fucking clear penalty. There’s no other fucking logical, fucking rational, fucking sensible reason.
It makes me cry. What the fuck have I ever done to Arsenal other than love them with all my fucking heart and mind? What have I EVER done to them that would make them hate me so much that they’d not only contrive to fuck up, but contrive to get into a winning position before doing so? Why, oh fucking why, do they hate me so fucking much?
Fuck those fuckers. Fuck them all. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on you. Fool me for four fucking years, though, and shame on me.

chill the fuck out you muppet you got to suck on you mums big tits when you were younger but tonight i will feed on those spectacular tits
Chevy, if you want to suck the titties of mature-aged women, be my fucking guest. I really, really, don’t give a fuck about you, your diet, or your fetish for lactating boobies. Thanks for trying to cheer me up, though.
I can’t see us winning at Anfield. I really can’t. We need Theo on the fucking pitch, right from the fucking start. We need Bendtner as far away as humanely possible from their goal. We need to find a way through a 10 man defence. But most of all, we need to take our fucking chances. And vindictive, nasty, horrid Arsenal contrive to fuck me over again and again… so fuck no, not this time – I’m not going to put my heart into a fucking match that Arsenal will piss up; I’m not going cry; I’m not going to CARE about those fuckers anymore.
Too right connolly’s, Theo needs to start, he is what we need down the right, when he comes on the game changes.
Bendtner, I reckon we need to give him time, but he has the potential to be good..
I’m still hoping that we can win at Anfield, but our chances are really slim, Liverpool definitely have the advantage right now, and in Europe they are very good…
Sorry guys, but RAFA is doing it again. He got the away goal he needed and came away with a draw. Liverpool are 50% on their way to becoming Valencia so everyone knows what to expect at Anfield. 0-0 or 1-0 to Liverpool. RAFA has done it again.

Hello chef
Well, Episode 2 is called “Attack of the Clones” for a reason. It’s a fucking terrible name for a fucking terrible movie, but the lessons learnt by our erstwhile Chosen One are lessons of fucking profundity:
1. Be flexible; Anakin would never have been seduced by the Dark Side if the Jedi had been more considerate to his attachment to his mother.
2. It’s painful to accept your limitations, but necessary; Anakin never had the courage to realise that control is an illusion, and that you’ve got to accept that shit happens.
3. Natalie Portman is HOT, but come on; it’s a bit creepy pining over a girl you’ve only a casual acquaintance with, especially if you only met her when you were eight years ago, ten years ago. He’s the fucking Chosen One with a mitochlorian count off the fucking charts; he should scoring left, right and centre.
4. If you’re in a lightsabre fight with a renegrade Jedi Master who may or may not be evil, don’t be a fancy-dan and fight with two fucking lightsabres. Just use one and kill the fucker anyway possible.
I believe everyone can learn from Star Wars. I believe Arsenal should take these lessons to heart, and play practical, results-fucking-orientated football. We drew; fair enough, we can’t control Bendnter’s fucking leg or dodgy Dutch ref, but we CAN do something about the next two matches.
P.S. In case you’re wondering, the Natalie Portman application is that we’ve got to stop drooling over transfer rumours regarding Kaka, Ribery, Benzema, Nasri, Ben Afra, etc,. It’s not going to happen, people.
What we’re going to achieve, we’re going to achieve with delicate, technically gifted, dirt-cheap players like Rosicky, Hleb and van Persie. And even if we DO sign a world-renowned hottie like Natalie Portman, we’re going to be so shit scared that she’ll die in childbirth that we’ll sell our souls to evil Sith Lords so we’ve got the cash to pay said-player a fucking huge contract. And even then, they’ll bugger off to Barca – the point is that we’ve got to understand (and which Anakin, tragically, did not) is that death/rebirth is a natural part of the cycle of the Force, and it’s no good trying to hold onto players who are too greedy/stupid/disloyal/or divorced to stay.
P.P.S. I’m mixing metaphors here, but I assume you’re all smart enough to follow my thoughts (except Chevy Chase, but I can always give him the Cliff notes version if he wants it).
The Emirates is the death star and Eboue is Jar Jar
