“I’ve not been offered nothing here [Portsmouth], I’ve not been offered anything elsewhere. I want to keep learning and wherever that takes me it takes me.

I always tried to lead by example [at Arsenal] and get out there and make sure they realised they were playing for the Arsenal. I tried to install in the team a kind of ‘over our dead bodies’ kind of attitude.

I just feel that people don’t realise that the best back four win the league. The last two seasons Manchester United have had the best back four and, before that, John Terry and his men were fantastic for two years.

We’ve kept more clean sheets at Portsmouth than Arsenal have, but I’m not going to question the great man [Wenger].

I love the club, it was part of my life for so many years and if anyone at Arsenal wants to invite me back, I’m willing to give it a shot. I’m fully prepared and willing to do what I have to do.”

These are the words from Tony Adams after talking to Setanta yesterday. Tony is currently Harry Redknapp’s no.2 at Portsmouth but that contract runs out at the end of the season and he’s hinted he might go looking elsewhere to further his career.

I wasn’t always sure what the situation was with Tony and Arsenal, he didn’t turn up for the last day at Highbury and there was a rumour that he didn’t get on with the club, or something along those lines. However these new quotes suggest there is no problem and he’s love to work at the club if he were asked.

Wenger came out recently saying he wasn’t happy with our defence…so…why not snap up Tony Adams? Arsene suggested he could be in the market for a defender, but I don’t really see why; Clichy, Gallas, Toure and Sagna should be a great back four. With a bit of help, they should be unbreakable.

When Steve Bould came in as a defensive coach in 2006 we formed a record breaking back four in Flamini, Senderos, Toure and Eboue! They went through most of the Champions league with a clean sheet, and with an in-form Lehmann behind us it was no surprise we made it to the final.

So, I’m thinking, bring Adams in as a sort of no.2/defensive coach. If he could do something like Stevie Bould then hopefully we can learn to be tighter at the back. It would be a nice boost to see Tony back at the club too, the fans would love to see Mr. Arsenal return home. It would be great if Tony worked his way up at Arsenal and took over from Wenger in a few years time.

I dunno, I hope Wenger has a little think about it, I could be completely wrong but it’s an idea. I reckon Adams might be looking for a proper managers job but if he’s interested in working for Arsenal I think we should get him.

There isn’t a lot of other news about. Man United have just lost to Chelsea 2-1. It means the two are level on points and it will go right down to the wire. Some of the complete optimists I know have told me we can still win the title, heh! If United lose their next two games, Chelsea draw one and lose won and we win our next three we would be champions! It’s not impossible, in fact it could happen, but it is a long shot!

Luka Modric has signed for Spurs. A few people linked him with a move here but I don’t think Wenger was ever interested. He’s Eduardo’s mate from Zagreb but not anymore, I can confirm Da Silva rang him up this morning simply saying, “Cunt” down the phone then hanging up. Spurs have paid something ridiculous for him; the money will be coming from the Berbatov sale I guess. Funny they’ve wasted all their money on a player when they’re desperate for a player in another position. Oh well.

Right I’m off, have a nice weekend.

Hell yeah… I’ve been saying it for ages!! Bring back Mr Arsenal!

2. chu - 26 April, 2008

I think it’s Martin Keown rather than Steve Bould that you’re talking about.

3. lasagnechef - 26 April, 2008

Yeah I think so too, oops!

4. Donjohnni - 26 April, 2008

I CAN’T STAND OLD FARTS REMINISCING ABOUT THE GOOD OLD DAYS WITH TONY FUCKING ADAMS. A GREAT PLAYER AT THE TIME, THE GAME HAS MOVED ON. NEVER LOOK BACK, LOOK FORWARD. FORGET IT! HE HAS DONE NOTHIN TO SUGGEST HE WILL ADD ANYTHING TO ARSENAL.

5. Farrukh - 26 April, 2008

Donjohnni: Portsmouth have kept more clean sheets than Arsenal have this season.

6. Doublegooner - 26 April, 2008

Adams was at L.Colney having lunch with Wenger 3 weeks before this season started, so who knows. It would certainly add a little bit more steel & passion to the team. Pat Rice has been great but maybe Arsene needs a new no 2.

BTW Donjonni, the ‘good old days’ were fucking special, with special players. Never turn the chance of that experience down.Thats what we’re lacking now.

7. Tombov - 26 April, 2008

Would love to see him on our bench, never looked right next to ‘arry with a portsmouth badge on.

Donjonni, he has done wonders with ports deffence, espec at set pieces!

8. evo - 26 April, 2008

great point by adams really in terms of just how important defenders are, in our case not good enough and that includes kolo and willy. Check out my blog http://arsenalheat.blogspot.com on why I havent yet given up on the title this year.

9. RubbishRoverFan - 26 April, 2008

It’s like rats when they see the water rising, scurrying about with no mind. Look back to September and find anyone who said this Arsenal team would be anything to talk about this season. If you were one, then I accept your criticism. Don’t fuck with Le Boss just yet.
Adams coming back? - great! TH14 coming back? - Why?

10. Gnarley George - 27 April, 2008

If a bloke like Tony Adams could have saved us 5 goals in some of our 1-1 draws. Just 5 goals let in from momentary lapses in concentration. We’d be Champions now!!!!

11. Julian - 27 April, 2008

The whole problem is the hope Arsene continue to have on Djourou and Senderos who’re really not a strong defensive backup.

Arsene should have bought a bigger and a better mobile CB in January. Instead he brought in Djourou who’s crap and was showing it at Birmingham. He arrived and got injured.

Kolo left for ANC and he brought in the mistake-ladden Senderos (he scored own goal against Villa and lost us 2 points) who held his own because we were not facing strong competitors then. Kolo returned injured and left Senderos in that position. Kolo recovered but had dropped in performance so we continued to rely on Senderos. However Senderos is equal to a mistake waiting to happen.

Well, as usual with Senderos, he committed blunders again in the champions league and we were booted out. The lost alone cost us about 15 million, that could have brought in a better CB in January.

We need a CB in the mould of Vidic or Sol Campbell who will partner either Gallas or Kolo. One of Djourou or Senderos will have to leave else he will rot on the bench.

If only Arsene had bought a CB in January instead of recalling Djourou, we could have run away with draws against MANU and Chelsea, won our matches against POOL in the CL, beat Villa and Middlesborough, win the title and possibly get to the CL finals.

When in a corporate set up you have all decision-making resting on one person that’s what happens. This was our best chance of winning the title for sometime and we let it slip. Next year every team will be strengthening and the scums down there have already started, bringing in Modric.

Even Spurs bought Yunis Karbul and dropped him because of his continuing mistakes. Senderos cost us CC finals, FA semi-finals last year and we lost badly against Serville in the CL where he suddenly became a GK but Arsene is still keeping him there and giving him games when he’s already proven that he’s not good for the team.

If you put Senderos up for sale, no club in the top and middle in the EPL will rush to sign him so why Arsene Wengers’ continuing hope in him. The boy has cost us so much already.

Instead of Djourou, Arsene should have sent Senderos on loan to help him gain valuable experience and see if he’s really a quality for Arsenal but he didn’t and the rest is history.

SENDEROS HAS ALREADY FAILED AND MUST BE THROWN OUT.

“He’s Eduardo’s mate from Zagreb but not anymore, I can confirm Da Silva rang him up this morning simply saying, “Cunt” down the phone then hanging up.”
hahaha.. had a good laugh reading that sentence.. great post as usual,i’ve been following your blog for quite some time now.
and yes please; tony adams for our no.2, it’ll just feel so right. heck lets bring keown and mr arsenal back together to make our defence super rock solid.

13. Richard Cutts - 27 April, 2008

The back 4 you mention (ignoring the tantrums gallas sometimes has… you must worry if they affect the team) I agree is a good back line. But if one of your centre backs is out then you have nothing to fall back on.

Re: The actual point of your article. I think Tony as a coach would certainly not be a bad thing so it would be worth a shot.

14. Jay - 27 April, 2008

Donjohnni you really are one fucking WANKER!!

15. evo - 27 April, 2008

richards and thuram is what’s needed even though it wont happen. check out http://arsenalheat.blogspot.com for daily updates on all things arsenal.

16. lasagnechef - 27 April, 2008

‘GOOD OLD DAYS’? Adams played for us about what…6 years ago? ‘OLD FARTS’ sorry mate but you either a.) you haven’t been supporting Arsenal for very long or b.) you are about 10 years old. Either way you can’t have such a strong opinion on our history. What the hell is your problem?

17. unpaid work 240hrs - 27 April, 2008

Its gone very quiet at the emir8s lately, lets hope arsene has been travelling europe for that special player or two. As for richards and thuram, welll the latter is well past his sell by date and the former, no matter how big an arsenal fan he is, im afraid the difference between arsenes 50-60k a week wont compete with man citys, liverpool, chelseas or any other cash throwing outfits 80k plus. We as Arsenal fans should just accept that until the wage structure is increased to match a club with a 60k stadium, champ league every year and one of europes elite, we will be the nearly team for seasons to come. Arsene has got a vision, its not one i share but am realistic enough to know that nothing will change why he is in charge. There is nobody on this forum yet who can convince me of anything else.

18. willie young - 27 April, 2008

We have all been conned for the past three years, the promise of a great team two or three years down the line has not materialised and am convinced that the boss has had to just get on and play with the cards he has been dealt. Arsene has done a brilliant job with the players he has had at his disposal, it is that alone that makes him such a great manager. Lets all stop fannying about and avoiding the bigger question……….. Who is best placed to take our team forward?

19. Gazman - 27 April, 2008

We’ve almost certainly finished third and on a pittence of what liverpool, spurs, newcastle, and a few others have shelled out this season, not to mention chelsea who are not even certain to win bugger all. I think its time to accept that we have had a disappointing last third of the season and our cup exits have all been gutting to put it mildly but hey, finishing third with our resourses is no mean feat. 4th for two seasons on the trot and hopefully 3rd this year, lets look at the glass half full etc. If i had to choose either chelsea or utd it would be chelsea everytime even if i dispise cole with a vengance, but united fans do my head in and to see them finish with fuck all would make me feel like we had in fact won the league. Heads up gooners. Every dog has their day.
COME ON YOU GUNNERS!!!!

20. Gazman - 27 April, 2008

donjohnni,
following a football team is built on understanding its history.
If you can only look forward follow snowboarding!

21. willie young - 27 April, 2008

yeah, when i was a nipper i followed arsenal coz firstly my old man did and secondly i liked the way we played, charlie george, eddie kelly and peter simpson, it was a joy to watch. You can only decide to follow a team on their past performances not on what you hope a football team may achieve in the future.

24. BIRKO - 29 April, 2008

Donjohnni, mate, shut the fuck up! We’re all looking forward, looking to the future. No one said we wanted Tony as CB, it is as a coach as we want to see him back. And no one who sais “TONY FUCKING ADAMS” can claim to be a Gooner. So why don’t you become a Man Utd or Chelsea fan or something? It fits you more and you’ll have the possibility and plesure to get your ass kicked by the team whose defensive coach is “TONY FUCKING ADAMS”. Cunt…
Oh and when I say coach I say only a Nº2/defensive coach. I really believe we have the best manager in the world. He has been doing some errors maybe, but the football he makes us play and all the fresh youth he brings in every season is certainly what I want to see in Arsenal FC. The rest will come very, very soon…believe me! Maybe sooner than we think: 2 matches left and it’s not over till it’s over!!! Gooners Forever!!!
