Ade, just go mate. 29 June, 2008

It started off a stupid rumour, Adebayor dismissed it, it didn’t go away, he once again declared his future to Arsenal, the speculation persisted and now it looks like Adebayor is actually leaving.

His recent quotes, which I spoke to you about in my last post, were the point when the transfer looked like it could actually happen. I had just ignored it all summer but I now believe Adebayor has a strong interest in leaving.

It gets worse though. Yesterday I said how Ade sounded like a changed person. A cocky person. Well get this:

“Milan are a big club but the fact they are not playing in the Champions League next season is less of a challenge. Barcelona have made a good financial offer and there is also the chance to play alongside great players. Yes, I am still under contract to Arsenal but it’s up to the directors to satisfy my demands or I’ll leave.

If my good form of last season has increased my value, my employers have to take account of that. I have to prepare for my retirement. Even if you are not scoring fine goals and you have money, you can enjoy a happy retirement. The time for preparing for that moment is now.

People ask if I am asking for the same salary as Henry. That is not necessarily the question. But I am being considered a worthy replacement for Henry while not deserving his salary. The question lies on this level.”

Incredible. You would’ve never heard him talking like this a few months ago. I just can’t believe that first paragraph: Threatening to leave if we don’t meet his wage ‘demands’. I just can’t believe it really. I used to love Ade because he’s one of those players who looks l like he genuinely loves playing for Arsenal and actually cares, like a fan. Now he’s got this sudden fixation on money.

And I thought this was all about going to AC Milan? Since when did it become about simply leaving Arsenal. Now he’s saying Barcelona have made him a good offer; Yet, if you read that last paragraph, it’s not good enough!

And as Arseblogger pointed out in the blog today, why is he going on about retirement?!? HE’S TWENTY-FUCKING-FOUR FOR FUCKS SAKE. He’s not even halfway through his career.

I don’t like this new Adebayor. That’s why I want him to leave. Never thought I’d say this, but: Ade, seriously, if all that money means so much to you, just fuck off then. Go and play with those other fools who are only in it for the pay slip at the end of the week, rather that the badge on your chest.

I hope he misses Arsenal, I hope he realises what he’s done.

This has now become a very bitter departure for me. These new quotes have just flipped my lid. How fucking dare he. I really am upset by this. I think mostly because of how drastically he’s changed his tone, and how publicly he’s made his demands. He’s had ONE good season and now he’s God. He’s still unproven. So I guess we should cash in. It might’ve been a one off.

Wenger reckons he’s staying. I just don’t care anymore. I’m going to stop wasting my time on this.

This transfer window is still very much open.
