July 1st: Let the action begin 1 July, 2008

It’s the beginning of the new financial year today, which should see a bit of transfer activity get rolling. There was a big rumour that Marseille didn’t officially want to announce the Nasri signing until today, so that the sale counted towards this new year’s financial profits. Well nothing has been revealed yet so far this afternoon but there are a lot of Gooners who have been refreshing the internet all day waiting for some official confirmation. Good luck with that.

The month of July might also see us get rid of Adebayor. He told us he would sit down with Arsenal this week to discuss his future. However, I have a feeling it will be a short discussion. A £30m cheque from Barcelona wouldn’t be a bad start to the year.

Today, we’ve been linked with a brand new player. Amaury Bischoff has said he is about to sign for Arsenal after turning down a new contract at Werder Bremen. The player says that Arsene is very much interested in him and the clubs director has even said on Werder Bremen’s official website that he’s sorry to see him go. Here’s what Bischoff said about it:

“Bremen was superb, but Arsenal is a huge opportunity for me. Wenger has known me since my time at Strasbourg and believes in my quality. He trusts me to be in the first team. Wenger has not put me under any pressure. He said, ‘Take all the time you need’.”

Sounds pretty legit, if he’s telling the truth. To be honest I haven’t heard of this player; and before you start slagging me off, I don’t follow Werder Bremen and I don’t play football manager, so why should I know about him? Anyway, he’s a 21-year-old midfielder and if Wenger likes him, then I like him.

There’s more quotes from him here, where he says he’s been waiting for Arsene to return from Euro 2008 and his transfer will be completed in the next few days. More on this when I hear it.

Gael Clichy has been voted 2nd in our player of the season award. Gael’s had a brilliant season and I’m glad that he’s been shown some recognition. I’m sure he’ll be chuffed it with. How often does a left back get voted a team’s second best player of the season? Well done to him, well deserved.

And finally, Cesc Fabregas has said he’s in the winning mood after this summer and can’t wait to win Arsenal their first trophy since 2005. As you might be aware, he just won Euro 2008 with Spain and he’s said it was the best day of his life. He was incredible for Spain this summer and I see him having a great season for us. Hopefully he can make his, and our dreams come true and bag some silverware next year!

Thanks for reading. Hopefully we’ll have some transfers to announce later in the week.

I feel Wenger is a little bit constipated in the transfer market, either he should sign Senna or take senna to get things moving again.

3. joe - 1 July, 2008

i hope adebayor leaves.. he is such a temperamental stirker. i can still remember how he drove me up the wall in the game against man u when he could have bagged a hat trick. at least with the sale of adebayor wenger can buy a good stirker such as berbatov or roque santa cruz.

4. sous chef - 1 July, 2008

BERBATOV! I’d never sign such a scumbag.

5. Mark C - 1 July, 2008

All this talk about Bischoff, it seems pretty strange.

If you look into the detail, he contract was going to run out, and Bremen have not renewed it.

Arsenal do that with a lot of the young players.

He could just be out of contract and trying to pimp his ar53.

6. Arsene doesn't know - 1 July, 2008

“If Wenger likes him then I like him?!”

What a joke. This Bischoff guy has hardly played in 2 years and is a complete nobody. He is a free transfer which is about all we can afford. He has a history of injury which is the last thing we need.

You’ve never even seen him play yet you like him because AW does. Please. If AW wanted to put a traffic cone in defence you would also like that, although a traffic cone would have more height than our midget defence.

We lost Flam and Diarra and want this loser to replace 2 internationals! MADNESS!

Sorry mate you are a mug if you think that signings like this rubbish will help us win trophies.

7. goonerc - 1 July, 2008

Dont worry i don’t think anyone has heard of bischoff and if they have their lying. get rid of adebayor and get santa cruz aswell as senna and zapata.

8. Attila - 1 July, 2008

Well, slowly I start to lose my faith about Nasri.
I don’t know why can’t the Arsenal or the OM or Nasri announce a **** news, which inform us that the recently informations.
Now, okay, we are talking about the dates. but it’s all gossips, and I hate the gossips…
We are waiting for him all days, and after we are disappointed that “it was an another day.”

9. Arsene doesn't know - 1 July, 2008

AW said that we would get signings within 2-3 weeks and the supporters would be pleased.

More rubbish. Nasri hasn’t signed and the longest transfer saga ever keeps rolling on. Why can’t we conclude transfers like other clubs?

Why are players like Diarra and Flam leaving and why do players like Ade and Hleb want to join them through the exit door?

We struggle to hold onto players who have had 1 decent season.

10. PG - 1 July, 2008

In the light of Ade’s comments, I wish he had not been voted our 3rd best player of the season. It was funny reading his stupid comments in the paper while the Arsenal official site was singing his praises at the same time. Also, it means that Sagna or Cesc miss out on a spot in the top 3. Sagna was the reason we had maintained a sustained challenge towards the premiership crown and it disappeared with his injury.

11. jim - 1 July, 2008

dont worry nasri iz gonna sign in da next week he is already in england hes done his medical and he soon will sign and he will be arsenal new no. 8

12. Danny Pulleyn - 1 July, 2008

I don’t necessarily think he is trying to replace Diarra or Flamini with Bischoff, he was a player Wenger knew from his days at Strasbourg, saw he was leaving on a free from Bremen and thought why not?! Wenger did the same with Flamini (even though flamini played more first team football at marseille)

We have Diaby, Denilson, Gilberto, Song, Ramsey to partner Fabregas (even though ramsey will take some time)

13. Arsenalist - 1 July, 2008

If Bischoff only cracked the Bremen lineup once, how useful can he possibly be to us? He’s got Carling Cup written all over him.

There’s also a report out there linking us with Marcos Senna:

http://www.goal.com/en/Articolo.aspx?ContenutoId=758361

He had nice Euro but he’s too similar to Gilberto for AW to sign him. I’m waiting for us to get another back. If Senderos starts even one league or CL game for us, I’ll consider this summer a bloody failure.

14. Passenal - 1 July, 2008

Some people are too quick to judge – Wenger has taken players from lowly surroundings, or who have been struggling to make it at their former clubs and turned them into superstars before. Why not wait before you start judging and calling people crap. You may be eating humble pie before you know it.

15. DeiseGooner - 1 July, 2008

Flamini was signed as a 20 or 21 year old who’s contract had just run out and hadn’t really made an impact from his club.

Not that it means anything, im just saying ….

16. Arsene doesn't know - 1 July, 2008

Flamini had played for Marseille and was in the starting line-up for the UEFA Cup Final. Bischoff is just a punt like Alberto Mendez. He has also been injured for 2 years. We just don’t need players like this. We need quality – something we used to have in abundance. Let’s wait and see the other nobodies that we sign.

As far as being quick to judge, we have won f*** all for 4 years apart from a FA Cup that was undeserved. We threw it away last year. We have been patient and we need silverware and by that I mean CL or Prem. Cups mean jack to me. Players like Bischoff won’t help us win anything.

Arsenel used to synonymous with world class players who would win trophies. Now our team is a bunch of talented youngsters who have won nothing and the club is one that struggles to keep its players.

We can keep saying next year like the Scousers who have been winning the League next year for 18 years. We need to win otherwise the one world-class player we have – Cesc- will leave.

17. aargh - 1 July, 2008

He was totally free you idiot

18. Connolly's agent - 2 July, 2008

‘chef, I play football manager and rest assured, I haven’t heard of Amaury Bischoff either. If it was up to me and my FM08 game, I’ll sign Youssene Sankhare from PSG. Excellent player, great engine, and loyal as fuck. Or Distel Zola from Saint Etienne, or Claudio Marchisio from Juve. Then again, I gave Flamini a 50,000 pound a week contract and kept a world-class defensive midfielder.

Personally, I think Diaby and Denilson are going to replace Flamini. What’s the point of trumpeting our yoof if we’re not going to give them starting positions whent they’re ready? Roll the fuckign dice and let’s see how fucking good our youngsters are. I want to take a fucking chance.

19. Gooner - 2 July, 2008
20. Diceman1984 - 2 July, 2008

HOW DO YOU KNOW HE WILL NOT BE GOOD, HOW DO YOU KNOW???

Don’t even tell me you knew Flamini will be like he was for us last year when he first signed, for free, when he was like 20. Oh and you knew that players (and these are only a portion) like Anelka, Clichy, Sagna, and oh, CESC FABREGAS were destined to be this good? Cesc was like 15 so you CAN”T know that he will be this great this quick. He may be good, he may be bad, he may be average, or he can be our next great player, WE don’t know!!!

Don’t talk shit about AW man, he’s done too many things for the club and for the fans. If you want world class players or over-valued players like Chelsea always buy then go support them or go play FM or something man.

WENGER is at best finding diamons in the rough, not buying world-class players. And people make mistakes so yeah, he did also bought bad players but many more were great for us. CHEAPLY.

Just for the record, HE NEVER BUY WORLD CLASS PLAYERS, HE BUY GOOD PLAYERS AND TURN THEM INTO WORLD CLASS! I can’t believe a gunner could talk shit about Wenger.
