Boring International Friendlies… [NASRI'S INJURED!] 19 August, 2008

After a summer of no football, you’d think an international break so soon into the new season wouldn’t make any difference to us. However, there’s nothing like a round of international friendlies to clear any sort of Arsenal news. I mean, the summer was quiet, but these periods of friendlies are completely dead. There is nothing…no news. Nothing significant. The headline on Arsenal.com is:
They’ve even resorted to making up words. It’s that bad.
I suppose I could tell you who we’ve got going off to get injured play for their countries. Theo Walcott has been included in Capello’s England squad to face Czech Republic. The new England manager says he rates him but is yet to give him a chance in a game. Theo hasn’t had an inspiring start to the season so the call up surprises me, but I still hope he gets a chance to play. A decent performance with England will do him a lot of good.
Samir Nasri’s been called up to the France squad replacing Ben Arfa. I thought he’d be in it anyway but apparently not. Well he is now. Good luck Sammy, don’t get injured now that’s a good lad.
UPDATE: You won’t fucking believe this. Nasri’s only gone and got injured hasn’t he. I don’t fucking believe it! A thigh strain apparently, no idea how long he’ll be out for yet as this is breaking news but I’m expecting him to miss the Fulham game now. More on this tomorrow probably, but the initial reaction coming of of the club is that Bacary Sagna is not surpised. He knows all.
Another player who I’d thought would’ve been in their international squad was Johan Djourou. Well he’s been called up now after the manager found out that Senderos is actually injured, you’d think they’d do some research wouldn’t you? I don’t know much about Swiss football but I thought Senderos and Djourou were the central defensive pairing for the national side. Oh well.
In news closer to home we’ve got a few youngsters going out on loan. Havard Nordtveit is going to Spanish side Salamanca for the season. That’ll do him a world of good. I’m a big fan of Nordtveit, he looks quite a good defender and a leader, yet the guy’s only 18. It wouldn’t surprise me if after this season on loan he comes back to Arsenal looking for a place in the first team squad for the 2009/10 season. Good luck to him.
Nacer Barazite is said to be going to Derby for the season, there’s nothing official yet but Young Guns say it’s going to happen. He could do with the experience in the Championship too, Wenger rates him highly and is not afraid to pick him, so he could be another player in contention for first team football when we returns.
Kieran Gibbs has caught the eye of Reading chief executive Nigel Howe and he says that he thinks Arsenal might be willing to loan him out. Gibbs is another one dying for first team experience and a loan move could do him a lot of good. With Traore at the club he wouldn’t get a chance this season if Clichy were to get injured or something [touch wood]. So maybe a loan move would be good for him too. Nothing official on that one yet either but we’ll see.
That’s about that for news then. Oh, Adebayor’s put pen to paper on that new deal. Cool.
Speak to you tomorrow hopefully. Thanks for reading.
