Eduardo’s back, more Arshavin stuff & Bendtner linked with move 22 January, 2009

Eduardo Da Silva completed his first full 90 minute performance last night since his broken leg last year. The reserves drew with Stoke 2-2, a brace from Jack Wilshere earned us a point. Eddy could’ve won it for us with just a couple of minutes left but his neat finish was ruled offside. He also had a great chance to score when we caught Stoke out on the break but the ‘keeper made a great save.

I didn’t get a chance to see the game but I’ve been told that he did look rusty but showed flashes of skill and grew better as the game went on. All he needs is games now, he’s well on course for his first team return. He says he feels ready to play return to the team and can’t wait to get his first goal. I know Wenger wont rush him but I’m hoping his back on form in about a month’s time.

It has to be said though – Jack Wilshere did steal the show a bit. His first goal was a finish Dennis Bergkamp would’ve been proud of and he was dangerous all game. I don’t see any excuse in him not playing against Cardiff on Sunday – he couldn’t be any worse than Eboue. You can see highlights of last night’s game here.

Of course, a blog post in January 2009 would not be complete without a fresh Arshavin story or two. Today is no different. Zenit claim we are still in contact but things are going ahead without the hindrance of Arshavin’s mouthy agent, Denis Lachter. They say they are talking directly to Ivan Gazidis to try come to a conclusion. However Peter Hill-Wood insists we will not be increasing our latest offer, it’s up to Zenit to accept or decline – quotes also on that link above.

The player himself has turned to God in the hope that a deal will be done. Keep praying, mate.

Nicklas Bendtner has turned a move to German side, Hoffenheim according to his Dad. He says he is glad that there is interest in his son, “But a transfer is not going to happen at this stage”. I know some Gooners would be happy to drive Nick to Germany themselves but he’s scored twice in the last two and you have to remember he’s only 21! He’s got a few years yet to prove what sort of player he can be. He can be frustrating but we just have to give him time. I’m not expecting to see a lot more of him this season with Eduardo back soon – it’s up to Bendtner to get his place in the side.

Right that’s it for today. I’m exhausted. More tomorrow, undoubtedly there will be some sort of Arshavin related material. Until then.

woohoo 1st

thank god eduardo is back. maybe now ade & rvp will pull their socks up and play for their positions.

as for bendtner, give him a go, he’s only 21. give him atleast another full season to prove himself.

RVP pull his socks up?? Just a tad harsh, no? He has been our player of the month for each of the past two months, and in the past 2 games provided assists for all 4 goals we scored. Personally, I think he’s a class act, and my biggest concern about him is that we’ll lose him in the summer.

i read a post with some statistics about arsenal, no one except fabregas has made a big difference to the team until they are 24 – Henry, Flamini, Pires, Vieira, Toure, Adebayir, van Persie they all were 24 or older when they got their break through. Exeptions are Clichy and Fabregas, it looks lite Wolshere is going to join them. The point is that Bendtner is only 21, he has 3 more years to show he’s woth, he may just suddenly become a top scorer, Flamini was unheard of until he was 24 and playing for the first team regularily, and now we miss him.

Wenger won’t let Bendtner go – he sees him as a top class centre forward in the future. Alex is right – he’s only 21 and RVP cold be pretty frustrating at that age

5. Jon - 22 January, 2009

The post didn’t have statistics. It was just that statement plus various other bullshit.

I really hope that Zenit’s board of directors allow the Arshavin deal to go through tomorrow… a sensible arrangement (or compromise) can only equate to a sensible conclusion to this saga which has gone on far too long!
The options are that Zenit hold onto an unhappy player until November and then he buys out his contract to sign for a well established european club or that an agreement is reached well before the deadline date looms??
The player’s agent appears to have only provoked a negative reaction from Zenit and much like Dein’s past dealings the personal touch is clearly required here.. bypass the media circus & untrustworthy agent… speak directly to each other on the phone and then maybe something positive can be achieved. BT once prompted the promotion that it is good to talk, and now is the time to talk without any outside influences making this any more confused than it has been.. if the language barrier / cultural differences were not enough… surely it’s time to bridge these gaps and built better relations going forward. With god speed Arshavin!

Isn’t Nicky B 3 goals in 3 seeing as that Plymouth goal did end up being credited to him??

i think Nic should stay at the club he only needs competition to play well he tends be a little sluggish some times but he`s top class centre forward how many 21 year olds score ten plus many goals a season and i think manu eboue should be taken back to the right back and set a competition with sagna i hope gunners we should be grateful

10. Nik - 23 January, 2009

Family Enclosure Man, don’t get me wrong,I agree that RVP has been our best player for the past 3mths. What I meant was when you have no competition for your position you tend to get abit complacenet knowing that only injury can force you out of the team (Adebayor’s
recent form) Le Boss was never gonna leave Ade out of the team because of a form slump coz who would have partnered RVP up front?

Dudu was an assassin infront of goal before his injury and he wasn’t scared to take a shot from outside the box

11. ARSENE"S NOSE - 23 January, 2009

Joe

Sagna is the best right bank in the premiership dont insult him by saying Eboue should be moved back to Right back to give him competition. The right back position is the very least of our worries

If it is true Athletico Madrid want Eboue(please god it is) what time is the next flight to Madrid,i will carry his bags

12. Gooner Don - 23 January, 2009

I would sell Bendtner. We have Ade,RVp,Vela and Dudu.So its goodbye Pink Boots

13. ashook - 23 January, 2009

don’t be a bunch of hypocrites Bendthner is playing alot better than ade when he first arrived at arsenal and look at him now , give the lad some time

14. bob mcnabs ferrat - 23 January, 2009

PLEASE Athletico up your bid for eboue.

Only Arsenal can take so long to sign a player………………… Come on Arsene sort it out, tell that excuse for a board to dig deep and go for babel as well !!!
