City confirm Ade talks, more bad news for Hartson & Vieira must not go to Spurs 15 July, 2009

With the first pre-season friendly just three days away and all the breaking news about Man City’s interest in Emmanuel Adebayor it seems like the summer quiet period is officially over. Things are about to hot up, especially if Ade’s transfer does go through as it’ll leave us £25m in pocket with a striker and/or central midfielder to buy. It’s been a long and enduring summer but it looks as if those no-news days are over.
Yesterday Carlos Tevez was unveiled as a Manchester City player and at the press conference Mark Hughes confirmed there has been talks with Arsenal over Adebayor. It’s early days yet but the City manager has confirmed they are indeed interested:
“I think there have been discussions between ourselves and Arsenal but as is my usual response to questions about players we haven’t yet signed, it’s not really the right time or place to discuss it.
Yes, there has been contact. There is a deal to be done, possibly. But it’s not been concluded as we speak here. Until that actually happens it’s not really the time or the place.”
Since then, the BBC have told us Ade has passed a medical at City. Now the BBC are usually quite good at bringing football news, they do it quickly and accurately but I can’t help but think they’ve jumped the gun here. It sounds a bit early for the medical to be done and there’s nothing in that story more than the headline to suggest it has happened. I don’t know, we’ll see.
If they are correct though then we could see a deal being completed as early as today. If City are actually still interested then I see a transfer going through more realistically in the next seven days. I’ll leave all my final thoughts for Adebayor once a deal is announced sicne there’s other news to cover first.
I told you the sad news of John Hartson being diagnosed with cancer a couple of days ago, well I’m afraid I’ve got more bad news. It was initially testicular cancer that had spread to the brain, well today we’re being told that it has spread to his lungs, and he is having emergency brain surgery. Now I don’t know all the details but that alone does not sound good to me. Hopefully the ‘emergency’ brain surgery is to get in early to give him better chances rather than anything more serious.
His family have released a statement today thanking everyone for their kind words and that they are drawing strength from the support. I’m sure it will have been passed on to John how fans of his many clubs have reacted to the news and hopefully it will drive him on in his fight.
You thought the news of Birmingham’s interest in Patrick Vieira was wrong, well it’s gets worse. The Daily Mail have linked him with a move to Tottenham and even have the cheek to mock up a photo of him in a Spurs shirt and suggest he will take a massive pay-cut to ‘prove his commitment’. Fuck. Right. Off. I believe in Paddy that he would laugh off any offer from Tottenham. Alright he flirted with other clubs a bit whilst he was with us but I still believe he is an Arsenal man.
The Independent are even suggesting that he is interested in the move. I don’t believe it for one second but I would like to hear Redknapp say whether he’s interested of not. Just simply so PV4 can tell them to fuck off.
Arsenal.com have announced a bit of team news for the Barnet game this weekend. They’ve said the squad will include some players that returned to training on 7th July plus some reserves and youngsters. It’s pretty much what I was expecting really; in recent years it has been a strong-ish starting line up and ended up being a complete side of reserves, giving a bit of a run out to everyone. Vermaelen, Rosicky, Eduardo, Senderos and Traore could all be in the team and it would be nice to see them play, especially Tomas Rosicky who I think most people have almost forgotten about. On Friday if there’s not too much other news around I should be able to write the first official match preview of the season. Exciting stuff!
The club have also announced details of this years Member’s Day open training session which will be held on Tuesday 4th August. I think I missed it last year but I’m in London for the Emirates Cup the weekend before so I might try get a couple extra days off work and hang around for it.
Right then bit of a long one today but there was a lot of news, which makes a change. There’s bound to be more developments tomorrow so stick around. Thanks for reading.

ade is better of gone.I was talking to someone and he confirmed to me that i was not the only one who thougt that ade was the worst thing that has ever happened to arsenal offcourse not forgetting hyote and djorou oh!!! EBOUE also needs to be eliminated.
1st
damn
1st
lol … not first .. Pv to tottenham is so far frm happenin .. Also ill be happy wit more news abt adeb transfer n even more happier if the deal is done asap!!!!!
best of luck to hartson. I was gutted when he left. Not the most talented player but he worked hard (unlike the togonator) and he scored in a european final for us
buy flamini or Viera and sod the rest.. we need holding players with big shoulders… this seems like a good option.. experience to get the young lad up and running.. oh and wouldn’t u know they both know the premiership and the Arsenal too.. so no difficult transition… what d’ya think?!
I would have take Alonso or Melo.. but no stuffing chance of that now is there… a decent CDM!! there must me a god out there somewhere. (or a fat russian or yank!!) lol
Come on, get real. If Paddy gets a massive wad of cash from the tiny totts and f*cks their season up it make him the greatest Gooner of all time.
Phil,
I think you should go back under the rock you came from since you know nothing about football, not Arsenal.
Why buy PV4 when he is well pass it? Dominech is the only coach who seems to ignore that fact. Love PV4 Aresenal Legend but other than for a ceremonial retirement we have no business there.
Famini left for greener pasture so F** him, He had one good year, what’s his accomplishment since?
You lads need to go get a life or sh*t the hell up and let the Boss do his thing.
If we dont win or in the mix again for in one of two finals. i would expect some changes at Arsenal next year..
Cheers to all gunners! and lets hope for a great 09/10 Season.
J, Boston USA
klass jan huntelaar
Xabi Alonso
SORTED!!
Does anyone know why the first 4 or 5 pre-season games are not on Arsenal TV but only online,God the channel is bad enough anyway but at least you can watch Reserve team games live and, last season, all the pre season friendlies.I notice Liverpool TV are showing delayed coverage of their pre season friendly to night so why do we have to mess our fans around.
Ade is a joke.how he can kiss the badge
of any shirt is laughable.he should have gone to chelsea
to join cashley.can’t wait to see the back
of him.
James lets hope 09/10 is more effective than the last campaign cus we were f*cked in one position and that was CDM…. Come on Denilson was total w*nk…. Song had one or two good games… Diaby was good in spells… Ramsey needs another 2 seasons Wilshire is gr8 but not ready… oh and Toure and Eboue couldn’t do it for love nor money… If we had plugged this hole, we may have even been champions or even beaten Scum in the semis. We should have got Alonso or Yaya last time round… of course now that is impossible(Citeh and un Real f*cking up the transfer market). The other options are what… pray tell… all a bit … average… ?
Gilberto played there brilliantly for 3 or more seasons, then Flamini kept him completely out of the team.. If Georgey Graham can patch things with a legend like Keown, which allowed him to go on to become an Arsenal legend why not suggest the same of Flamini..? The only factor that holds us back is his wages… 135 000 a week is a little out of our budget…
Ok granted Viera is old now, but a years contract with him mostly on the bench and in the training ground mentoring the younger lad would be great.. unlikely but what a thought.. James don’t u dream of such things? Come on if we can shell out all that for shite arse fishface we can at least do it for a true arsenal living legend..
An James f*ck u and ur rock jibe state ur case and leave the personal insults for ur wife.. many thanks**
We need a least a few experienced players in. Get ride of Ade the Bad-e.
Get ride of Blood Diamond Eboue.
Bring in Alonso and Melo and let start winning spnthing again.
My finger nails can not take another punding.
Come on lads get it to gether
in arsene we trust. just be patient he will deliver both the players ,the football and the trophies.
If we can’t hold the ball in midfield..Cesc can’t go forward.. Arshavin can cut in from the left and RvP can’t score those beauties from the edge of the box… Last time out this was the greatest problem ..so many games that we lost midfield and then lost the game… when Alex was on song then we saw brilliance, when they misfire they did it from CDM… lets hope someone in the club or from outside can at least fill this void in the season to come.. in Wenger we trust!!
” in arsene we trust”?
get real mate, we have heard the same old shit for 5 years and it is getting like the great man himself….. well past it sell by date.
Stop playing fantasy football manager and plucking world class plaayers out of the air, you must be dreaming if you think wenger is going to part with 20 mill on one player. Some two bob player from Bordeaux is all of a sudden the dogs bollocks, do you really think he would come to arsenal if he was that good.
Whatever anyone thinks about greedybeyor is irrelavent, we shouldnt be selling top drawer players to rivals who are probably gonna turf us out of a champion league spot next season. And lets face it, that is what is going to happen.
Us gooners need a reality check,
we will be lucky to finish in the top 6 next season
Phil,
You are spending too much time on pro-evo,
rvp has been crap for the last two years, he seems to live on the back of one good game for three months, its a sad state of affairs when we are pinning all our hopes on an injury prone mediocre talent.
Ceasc has been poor for two years as well, and take a look at the opta stats, we win more games without him than we do with him in the team.
Wenger is at the last chance saloon, if he doesnt use the adebeyor money wisely us season ticket holders will hound him out before christmas.
We are not being mugged off anymore.
Replace Ade with Chamakh or Huntelaar and sign either Cana or Inler with the Ade money and we’re sorted.
“Song and brilliance” !! Are you on drugs??
huntelaar is going stuttgart for a start and chamakh is nothing more than an average player in a crap league.
We need class but cant afford it. Lower your expectations and be happy that we will still finish higher than the pikees from seven sisters.
Wow. That bob mcnabs is something isn’t he? Makes you proud to have a brain when you hear somebody like him talk.
Marko,
Another nut with imaginary friends, wake up,
Phil,
You are right my bad… We are fan of the seam team no reason for the personal jebe.
However, as Bob mentioned it sounds like you are playing too much fifa or footie manager and miss the real issue here at hand.
Fist off Song had one or two good games? Well i question your tactical knowledge or understanding of what make a good player beside highlight reals. Song was one of the most improve player in the squad last year and so was Denilson. I am not saying they world class DM (personally I think they a little lightweight) but good squad players. I am not sure about Denilson but I can see Song developped into a excellent player ( would never believe i would say this after the Horror Show he had at the Cottage a few years back)
Diaby, better come back strong and commited this year. the kid got talent but is always injured and sometimes drive you crazy with his passing in middle of the park.
I have a lot hate relationship with Eboue, the guy is very talented but I get peeve by his antics sometimes, the diving specially but he is a a good cover for Bac, and on the RM.
RVP- I hope will put his enjuries behind him, he is class. I am sorry for those who dont think so, but you [probably dont know much about the game than sitting at home drinking beer and peeping the indiot box, there is a reason he is one of the first name on the Holland national team sheet the pass 4 years when healthy.
WE ARE NOT GOING TO GET YAYA so please stop the silly talk. Do you guys even follow Arsenal are just became a fan yesterday.
Yaya was at Arsenal for weeks training 2-3 years ago I think it was before or after his stay at Monaco for a reason or another Arsene didnt make a move for him.
What We really need right now is an older experience DM…even if we sell Ade. Will I miss him a little bit, but i won’t be upset he was not clinical enough but the guy is really talented.
He was always in middle of some of our best goals the last couple of weeks, BUT we do need a better Striker if we going ot Compete Once again.
God i missed the days when use to have 3 touches and it would be a goal on a breakaway..PV4 to Bobby, to Db10. to KingH14 and scored…we need to raise the tempo of our game this year.
Cheers to All gunners!
James,
Boston USA
can anyone tell me what Huntalaar has done? another guy who is living off the back of a mege sale to madrid but when push comes to shove he wasnt up for it.
Get Bojinov from city
Hey guys do u actually read the posts before ranting…? Your points are my points all i mentioned were the players that we have and have been linked with… of course we’re not getting yaya, alonso, or melo… yaya has signed a new deal with barca, alonso is too expensive, and melo just signed for Juve….
My point is we don’t hold midfield… end of story .. Yeah song showed promise.. and only a little in games that didn’t matter… Fact remains if we can hold the ball we will never go forward so kiss goodbye to any sort of trophy…
So u condesending bunch of blogshite who do u think should play in CDM..? either cough up ur suggestion or get back on the bottle..
James and Bob… take the time to read what i said…. not see what u might have though i said…. is the ritalin is talking lies in ur heads again..lol
I gave no glowing report to any of our options.. just credit for occasional flashes of hope… and i don’t own a playstation and have no idea what ur talking about…. so please boy i know the vocab is difficult for some of ya.. but do try to read things more carefully.. before opening ur gobs to spew bollocks…
ade’s deal on the way, alonso looks as though hes destined with real madrid, melo has gone the wrong side. so what can we say now. 25mil from ade and we can’t afford to have a FEW good perfomances from the likes of diaby, song and denilson. we need consistency throughout the upcoming season. toulalan can cost up to 12mil and huntelaar has been deemed surplus by real madrid. they paid 17mil and would gladly accept the 17mil back. 17+12= 29mil. 4mil more and we have two world class players.
Huntelaar wasnt allowed to blossom, when u watch arsenal train, he has them practising what they are good at, huntelaar has a very good touch and finish, wenger can make him into a legend. he has strength and a reasonable height and was sought out by united and arsenal before making the move to madrid. with toulalan well his reputation speaks for itself
wenger has them practising, my apologies
Arsenal fans should not be so resistant to change, Wenger is not the be all and end all of everything Arsenal. He has been magnificent for 8 years but perhaps not so over the last 4-5, we cannot keep clinging on to Arsene like some god. He is just another manager in Arsenals illustrious history and there will be more.
If Arsene does not make full use of the funds at his disposal this year he should move on for the sake of Arsenals long term future. Arshavins purchase was a stroke of genius but one swallow does not make a summer.
