And it’s all gone quiet over there 16 July, 2009

With the first pre-season friendly just three days away and all the breaking news about Man City’s interest in Emmanuel Adebayor it seems like the summer quiet period is officially over. Things are about to hot up, especially if Ade’s transfer does go through as it’ll leave us £25m in pocket with a striker and/or central midfielder to buy. It’s been a long and enduring summer but it looks as if those no-news days are over.
I opened with this paragraph yesterday and once again I have no idea what I’m talking about. After the sudden burst of Adebayor to City stories it’s all gone a bit quiet again. I don’t think anyone really knows what’s going on; the papers have already announced a passed medical and approved work permit so there’s nothing really more to say until it’s a done deal.
They’re now saying that Ade wants a bit of extra time to think about his move. Apparently he’s worried what his fans in Africa will think about him moving from one of the continent’s favourite clubs to Man City, a team which everyone knows is all about money. I’m sure the rumoured £150,000+ a week will help him make a decision.
There’s also this story from the Daily Mail who have outdone themselves again. They say his agent has contacted United after City refused to pay his wage demands. This summer the Daily Mail has come up with some incredible stories, this isn’t the worst but it’s another to add to the scrap book. This just after Alex Ferguson said there will be no more signings this summer, the Daily Mail think they can get away with a lazy link with a £20m+ striker wanting £170,000 a week. Madness.
The reality is this, Man City are away in South Africa to play Orlando Pirates and Kaiser Chiefs. Once they’re back from that maybe the move can get rolling again. Until then we’re just going to have to wait, speculate and maybe speculate some more.
There is a bit of news though, Felipe Melo has completed his move to Juve. I think a lot of us were quite excited about the possibility of signing him but he did make it clear from the start he wanted to go to Juventus. We were just used to hurry them into an offer and I feel a bit silly now. We have to move on to our next target and I’m sure Wenger is busy seeing where any possible money from Adebayor can go.
Everyone’s saying Marouane Chamakh, even Wenger admitted he is a target. I’d expect that deal to happen fairly quickly after an Adebayor transfer. We should have a fair amount of money left over though and I’d hope Arsene is seeing what central midfielder we can get with that. We could have up to £18m left to spend on a defensive midfielder and that kind of money can get you a pretty decent player.
We have been linked with someone today – a 15-year-old Serbian forward Veljko Batrovic. AC Milan and Real Madrid are supposed to be after him too but Sky Sports understands he’s flying over to London next week for a trial with us. Sky Sports ‘understand’ a lot don’t they?
Ok well that’s it for today. Tomorrow I’ll be able to write the first match preview of 09/10! Unless of course there’s a load of developments with this Adebayor story in which case you’d probably rather hear about that. Either way, speak to you tomorrow.

On Chamakh, I don’t know know anything, maybe all of the speculation is well-founded, but I did read the (English translation of) the Wenger interview that seems to account for most of the Chamakh rumors, and it did seem pretty clear to me that Wenger was only answering a direct question, and his answer seemed a bit more equivocal than it’s being portrayed. So I’m not convinced that Chamakh is who we are in for.
adebayor can’t possibly return to arsene now 25 mil is great i think cana is 8 mil so that leaves us with 25 -8 subtract that and carry one hey where is my calculator ok there you go 17 mil and guess how much huntellar costs yeap 17 hmmmmmmmmmmm maybe just maybe
If his move falls through and he has burned his bridges at the emirates, Adebayor will be left in no mans land, which the greedy idiot and his agent deserves.
Yeah, dont know bout chamackh,it seems to straightforward a replacement, and since when are our dealings straightforward. Id love wenger to get someone like huntelaar AND a good dm. However i do think the majority of the ade money will go to (hopefully) a worldclass defensive mhdfielder and maybe a rotation striker. And i dnt think wenger is dne at the back either. Gona be an eventful summer/
two words: LORIK CANA
Captain of O. Marseille, proven leader, just 25. lead team to runners up…. does it have to be any clearer to Wenger? I’m glad the Melo deal did’t come through. Brazilians make lousy DM’s. i.e. Denilson, Gilberto… they haven’t had a decent one since Dunga. Elegant passers but not tough enough for the premiership. GET CANA NOW!!!
I dont care if He (Ade) is released on free transfer. I wish him well @ city. But most importantly, we need good replacement.

don’t worry about it, I will read your articles anyway
(can’t stand The Sun)
Ade doesn’t need replacement. Between Bendtner, RVP, Eduardo, Vela, Arshavin, Rosicky and Nasri we should be able to pick up his tally. Bendtner had a decent late sseason, we should try him until January and if he flakes then spend. In the maentime focus all the money and efforrt on a proven DM.
The word on the street is that huntelaar has turned down stuttgart and is having talks with spurs.
We are gonna look right mugs if he ends up going there, especially as every man and his dog on this blog have been raving about him for the last month!
Wheres the ambition Wenger ?? Fuck adebeyor off and buy some class!!
Hunterlaar is an average footballer who is a good finisher, at the highest level you need more from a forward than what he brings to the party, hence why he still isnt a regular in the dutch side and why Madrid want rid of him after just 6 months
madrid has prooven players, huntelaar still needs to create that good season which people will remember him by. i believe he has the talent and the finish for it, he may be on the verge of a 30 goal season or a display in which adebayor showed. either way we get 25mil which can buy huntelaar and mayb toulalan or cana. i still say good deal if huntelaar doesnt perform because we did not find it hard to score when adebayor flopped this season. who knows maybe we could have a legend in huntelaar
@Albert
Seriously, Gilberto NOT a good DM? Do you not remember the season he stood in for captain in place of Henry and literally carried the team at times? You cannot say, oh Brazilians make lousy DMs. It’s straight up racist if not plain stupidity. The great Brazilian teams are always founded on solid DMs. Not to carry on flaming, but finally, you are the kind of Gooner that embarrasses the real fans.
ANYWAY, racist pricks piss me off, but onto the real meat of the day. It’s fair to say that Ade has burned his bridges at the Emirates. I mean, I’m not his biggest fan, but even during his low points this season, I still defended him. Now, if he wants to move, he had better, because no one will stick up for him now. If he ends up staying, it could even prove detrimental on the team. Whatever happens, I just want a quick resolution.
With regards to Chamakh, I’m not too sure about him. I mean, his scoring stats aren’t exactly flattering, which is the key factor in getting a striker. BUT, having said that, if Wenger wants him, it’s obviously for good reason; Henry wasn’t the blazing 25 goal-a-season striker pre-Arsenal, so I have every faith, just like Arshavin, that the right decision will be made in terms of the team’s benefit.
i understand that chamakh has height and strength up front. he has good heading but his feet are not 1st class but his runs are. most of the goals which was not scored by him was scored due to him pulling the defender away from his stike partner, creating a gap. with arsenals passing, this would benefit Van and Bent. Adebayor would drift to the wings alot, this guy stays more central. adebayor was rarely in the box when stricking unlike his previous campaing. Overall chamakh is just another dimension which can make the team diverse. if bendtner continues performing as he was at the close of the season then i dont believe we would really need the new signing. BUT the depth of the squad would be greatly appreciated!
