Rosicky’s not injured & Vermaelen to wear no.5 30 July, 2009

Rosicky

There are reports that Tomas Rosicky has suffered an injury spreading but after watching last night’s post-match interview I can tell you he’s going to be fine. It’s true he might have picked up a niggle at Barnet – that’s normal after a long period out but Wenger said that both he and Gael Clichy are set to play in this weekend’s Emirates Cup.

It was a bit worrying not seeing Tomas in any of the matches out in Austria but he was only kept back as a precaution. His return to full fitness is going to be a bit stop start but we just have to accept that – you can expect him to come straight back and play every minute of every game.

It’d be nice to see him get a run out this weekend but if it’s taking any risk then I’d rather he watched from the sidelines and concentrated on being fit for Everton.

Also in that interview Arsene was asked about Kolo Toure’s departure and whether the money will be used to bring anyone in. He said we’re not close on anything at the moment but we are looking at what’s available and, “We do not make money to put it in the bank.”

I think that statement could be directed at some of the people criticizing our transfer policy. We’ve still got another month to make signings and typically the last few weeks are the busiest. I am adamant we need new additions but I’m not going to start any Wenger-Out campaigns just yet…

Articles like this sound as if the chequebook is closed but I’m not going to get worked up this early. Yes the squad is thin right now – but the season hasn’t started yet. There are plenty of clubs out there in a much worse position than us.

I believe Wenger when he says we have a good team, I know we do. It’s the squad that worries me a bit. A couple of injuries in the same area and that’s when we need to be worried. We’ll talk about this a bit later down the line though.

thomas vermaelenAnd finally today, it has been confirmed on the Online Shop that Thomas Vermaelen will wear the no.5 shirt. If you follow this link and click the drop down menu of shirt printing options you’ll see he’s listed in there as no.5. The Official Store is always first with the squad numbers so I’m pretty sure they’re right, I’m expecting an official confirmation pretty soon.

It’s no real surprise really, we were just waiting for either Kolo’s or Senderos’ departure until the Belgian got his number. My home kit is blank at the moment but I was thinking of getting it printed this season, I’m going to see how Thomas does but he could be a contender for the honour of my shirt. Or maybe Arshavin? We’ll see…

Anyways, that’s you updated. Thanks for reading, speak soon.

TH14 - 30 July, 2009

Were did you see this.Or who told this.

3. Marwel - 30 July, 2009

Ha, ha! I admit I had to check though.

4. MistaKen - 30 July, 2009

Has Rosicky ever played two thirds of a season for us?

5. lasagnechef - 30 July, 2009

Haha me too… Anyway, everyone knows he’s going to be no.44

6. Arse&Nose - 30 July, 2009

daz, why do spuds like you bother to visit Arsenal blogs?

7. Decos - 30 July, 2009

Yeah nice one Daz!

Looking forward to the start of the season.

C’MON U GUNNERS!

8. ddj - 30 July, 2009

Good blog, keep the positive momentum!

We already have a number 6 Daz.

9. mitch - 30 July, 2009

Interesting that Gilbert’s in at no. 38, though.

10. Daz - 30 July, 2009

I aint no spud & i know WE already have a No.6, but he’s gonna be gone soon & a proper legend will wear that number, it should of been retired after Tony but no better man than Vieira deserves it.

11. Segun,ilaro nigeria - 30 July, 2009

I think d ealier we get new players into d team d better,no one is even talking about a DM again,we cant continue 2 rely on d likes of denilson, song… To handle that position.

12. Ad - 30 July, 2009

I personally detest the idea of retiring shirts? Why honestly? A number is just a number? Adams wasn’t the first person to wear it and he certainly hasn’t and won’t be the last!
I hope we buy some people soon, I’d really like to see us have a crafty bid for Veloso now Bolton have more or less pulled out, Huntelaar obviously and a big gangly CB to have as 1st choice backup and then replace Gallas when he goes next summer.

13. Hunter - 30 July, 2009

how about huntelaar, hangeland and vieira, surely the 40 million would cover those 3 with ease with money to spare..that would keep most of the fans happy and keep the board happy as they have once again made money this window!

14. N19 - 30 July, 2009

Arsenal have been nothing more than a selling club for the last 4 years. We’re fucked and anyone who thinks different is deluded. We are no more than an upmarket Portsmouth, selling players to balance unbalanceable books.
How much longer have Arsenal fans got to put up with lame excuses?
Fizman last summer made great play about Arsene having 50 mil if he needed it, well so far this summer he has recouped another 40 and still wont part with any of it. We are being spoon fed lie after lie and its about time we fucked the board and manager off!!

15. ooh ahh huntelaar - 30 July, 2009

why doesnt wenger or the board give us a true appraisal of what is exactly what is going on at the emirates? it would stop all the whining and at least everyone would know where we stand. We can then all pull together.
How ever much people are standing behind wenger even the most loyal would admit we havent got much to look forward to this season.
Come on arsene, spend some tin!!!

16. Daz - 30 July, 2009

Huntelaar is a no go, Wenger is happy to give Bendtner his chance.
I still cant see Vieira coming back although i’d love to see it, id love to see Sol Campbell come back too, he’s been brilliant for Portsmouth the last couple of seasons & he’s looking for a club, himself & Gallas would be brilliant together, that Diarra from Madrid be good for the DM roll, dunno is he injured at the min though.

17. F-4 PhantomPhreak - 30 July, 2009

The only thing that bothers me is injuries, I know we already loss Nasri until October, and we all know we cannot count on Rosicky to be a proper fill in, at most every other match, and with RVP record of injuries who knows where we will be…. I don’t think it’s smart to let Eboue go right now, we need extra cover due to these injuries I speak about, and we all know that the Arsenal has it’s share of injuries, more than most….. Anyhoo here’s hoping for a great season ahead, I would love to see Paddy back in an Arse shirt, but doubt it very seriously, AW doesn’t buy back players, so thats wishful thinking at best.

18. Pinni Zavi - 30 July, 2009

De Rossi & Huntelaar will sign before the start of the season !!!!!!

19. steero - 30 July, 2009

De Rossi will not leave Roma where are you getting this from Pinni

20. moho - 30 July, 2009

de rossi and Huntelaar sign before the start of the season arsenal thy will start with good shape

21. Finklefeffer - 30 July, 2009

Di Rossi and Huntelaar would struggle to get in the team. Don’t forget H. wasn’t even a regular in the team hammered by Liverpool and Barca last season. I suppose they could come in handy if we had some injuries but 17m is a lot of money to spend on reserves. Di Rossi was poor against us last season- look at the videos. We need better players than that for those bucks or players just as good for nothing- as is AW’s way!! Idiots can spend, and waste, money. Look at Man City!!

22. cho kmt - 30 July, 2009

arsene u know mi love arsenal and everything but u a fuck up arsenal wat happen to the gunners

23. Gary Murray - 31 July, 2009

Is Hangeland cop tied after today>

24. Shervin - 31 July, 2009

i think the prem this year is between arsenal and chelsea. I think song and bendtner will have great seasons. If song can be consistent, he fits the dm role perfectly; he was good against hanover.

I would never want AW out, even if he got hit by a truck and became mentally retarded. In AW I trust.

derrick - 31 July, 2009

I CONNOT AGREE MORE!!!!!!!

25. Thomas - 31 July, 2009

Its not a wonder seen Toure leaving coz deafinately he knows Thomas will outnumber him

26. Arsh23 - 31 July, 2009

Finklefeffer… you obviously know nothing about football if you think De Rossi would not get into our team. You don’t even know how to spell his name so how do you know how good he is? He is one of the best defensive midfielders in Europe and it would be a major coup if we could get him. I doubt Wenger would be prepared to splash that kind of cash needed to get him though. I sincerely hope I’m wrong though as he’s exactly what we need.

27. kisekka - 31 July, 2009

Vamealen will need some one to help him otherwise we stil luck in the central defance.

I dont see any other person after kolos departure. Stil we are going to suffer the same phate.

Good day guys.

28. Tazman - 31 July, 2009

Arsene, Get Veluso, you got the cash so sort it out.
Everyman and his dog knows we need DM and Veluos would fit the bill perfectly.

29. Tazman - 31 July, 2009

Daz,
“get campbell back”
Are you mad??

30. thenry - 31 July, 2009

tazman how do you know we need veloso? he has ben shit for the last couple of years.
the act that no one has gone in for him tells u his head is fuked with probs at sporting.
why dont you muppets stick to supporting the team and let the pros deal with running the team.
as for wenger out dont be so stupid he alone has kept us in the top 4 on a budget that is exceeded by mid table prem teams
when he does leave then u will know how good a job he has done.
if anything its wankers like the article writer amd the so called know it all fans who should fuk off and support another team.

31. Tazman - 31 July, 2009

Thenry,

Its idiots like you who whove got their head stuck up arsenes arse that help keep him in a job.

You and your spotty mates spending all day in your bedroom wanking over wenger

He has had his day and its time for a change.
Mugs like you who keep spouting about “in arsenal we trust” are numpties who should be following another tam with no ambition.

Fuck off and talk shit to your imaginary friends!1

32. Bob mcnabs cat - 31 July, 2009

thenry,
are you arsene in diguise?
Wenger has made us a laughing stock…have you already forgotten the embarrasments against hull, spurs chelsea at home, fa cup semi final, all the lousy draws that we should have won not to mention his policy on buying and selling players.
Take your blinkrers dick head

33. Femi - 31 July, 2009

What Sylvester, Diaby and Senderos still doing inGunners?

34. juan del lito, algarve - 31 July, 2009

i regular at lisbon home game. snr veluso he make clear 1 year ago his wish to leave like with adbayor for fc arsenal. he still quality and does not make him bad player but does not want sporting for his team anymore.
