We can still come out of these four games well + news round up 3 February, 2010

I suppose the big story today is Chelsea’s failure to put distance between us and United by drawing 1-1 with Hull last night. It was their game in hand but could only manage a point meaning they’re just six points away from us now… going into Sunday’s ‘six pointer’.

It’s a teasing result. A result that still gives us a bit of hope in the title race. A win on Sunday could put us within three points of the leaders which would be a great position to be in going into the season run-in.

This run of four games we’re in the middle of has been a bit of a mini disaster, there was so much hope and belief going into it but we find ourselves two games down with only one point gained. However a win at Stamford Bridge would turn it around and we could still come out of this run with a bit of credit.

It’s difficult to judge because we all saw how hopeless we were against United, there’s going to have to be a big change of character before Sunday. I’m sure that’s what Wenger will be working on now. However last night’s result could just add to our misery this weekend, those two points dropped have lifted us a bit and we could get brought right back down to earth with another loss.

But then again… last night just proved that the top three haven’t stopped dropping points and this title race is far from over despite whatever happens on Sunday. I find myself in a really strange position, I don’t know what to believe anymore! Are we still not good enough? Are we out of it? Are we gonna put a run together? Are we gonna win the league? Who knows?! It’s exciting I guess but it’s doing my head in! Win on Sunday and we’re going to hype up our title chances like crazy again, lose and then we’re still not totally out of it… I need some fucking closure! Oh the stress of being an Arsenal fan.

Nicklas Bendtner has been talking about his injury and is looking forward to get back playing again describing his time out as ‘hell’:

“If you look at the programme now, there are only four months left, then we are at the World Cup. It’s gone so quickly. When people say they have been out with long-term injuries and they say it’s hell, I can completely understand that now.

It’s difficult [spending time out injured], and you come in to training each day doing the same things. But you motivate by telling yourself that one day soon you will be better. When you come back you know you will find yourself again, and you are going to be strong.

I’m a naturally happy guy, whether I’m injured or not. It’s harder when you are out injured because a big part of your life, and something you love is taken away from you.

You never know what’s going to happen, but I’m almost back to 100 per cent now and I’m going to get better and better all the time. I feel fine in training so let’s see.”

Wenger chose not to buy this January despite saying that he would add a striker as soon as possible, the reason behind that was probably down to the return of this man. He needs a few weeks to get into the swing of things but I really hope he can get back to his best in this season run in. I rate Bendtner and he did really well before he got injured last year. He is hard working, strong and he can set up and score goals. He didn’t start on Sunday but I’m hoping he might be alright for this weekend, I think we could really do with a player like him against Chelsea.

In other news some Montenegrin defender called Stefan Savic is claiming he has agreed to join Arsenal in May and will be soon signing a pre-contract. The 19-year-old says we fought off Birmingham City and Tottenham to sign him, which doesn’t really inspire me to be honest. However he could be one for the future, who knows? We need to be in the market for central defenders this summer but I wasn’t really expecting this sort of signing, hopefully he is another gem for the academy rather than a replacement for Campbell/Silvestre/Gallas.

Arseblog has news of the exciting Wellington who has impressed in a behind closed doors friendly against Dagenham and Redbridge this afternoon. He really is meant to be the real deal but then again so was Theo Walcott back in the day.

There’ll be more build up to the Chelsea game on Sunday. Things are a bit quiet news-wise at the moment but we’ll probably get an idea of all our fresh injuries in the next couple of days. Thanks for reading.

If he plays Denilson he has lost the plot and doesnt see whwn a player is not giving 100 %

2. IRISH GOONER - 3 February, 2010

almunia, fabianski, nasri, walcott and denilson have to be sold, they are not good enough!!!!wellington is supposed to be really good, lets hope he is better than walcott although that wouldnt be hard!!!!!!1

So Wenger doesn’t buy a striker because of Bendtner’s return but in the games that we truly need a striker we can’t really use him because he still needs a few weeks to get into game shape/ “the swing of things”? Makes sense to me. BTW, what has Bendtner shown, even when he was healthy, that gives you the confidence that he can make all the difference to this team? After Ade left, Wenger moved RVP into the striker’s role and moved Bendtner to the right in games that he actually started. Reason? He didn’t trust his finishing in the striker’s role then. As much as I loathe the big Togolese, Bendtner has nowhere near his first touch or finishing ability and that is saying something because we all know how bad Ade’s finishing was. So spare us the “I hope he gets back to his best” bit. He has had one league goal prior to his injury!

Denilson is a joke!! I would personally start with Vela on the left wing to get balls in to the box for Bendtner. If anyone watched the chelsea game yday, it was Hull’s crossing that was causing chelsea problems.

I think we can get a result there meaning a win. Mainly as Essien isnt playing. Everytime i watch him against fab, he just keeps him quiet. Mikel cant do it. Which will leave Fab to wonder and do his thing. But we need to be more ruthless in front of goal and take the 2 or 3 chances we get. Otherwise we will definately concede with the Spanish tosser we have in goal. The man had the nerve to say we are a little way from being the best team. I thought remove you and denilson add a little quality and we will be!!

5. Zap - 3 February, 2010

ok although i object to it strongly, people slating almunia, denilson, eboue is understandable. But when you start going on about Nasri and Walcott there is a point when u aren’t really an arsenal fan but a glory hunter who wants to brag to his mates about winning stuff.

seriously, you have no brains, especially when you go on about walcott who lacks match fitness. he’s overachieve and as a consequence raised people’s expectations too high. Nasri? I just dont get that, he’s 21 and an excellent player only an idiot would suggest he’s not good enough for the arsenal.

u can understand this though i mean irish gooner u sound like a right donut, mate.

I reckon the players at Arsenal just dont have the passion anymore. Its as if they know they will be in the team come what may and the hunger just isnt there. I dont see any players handing out a bollocking on the pitch and we give the ball away too easily. Persistantly giving the ball away. Denilson, song and diaby are the main culprits. Almunia is a liability and beyond a joke, the team is carrying eduardo and arshavin. and if Wenger plays the team of midgets against Chelsea we will get hammered. Has following the gunners been as depressing as the last 4 years? Where are all the big name signings we were promised when we were conned into the ashburton rd project. “60,000 fans will help us compete in the transfer market”, i remember wenger saying it!

7. Paolo - 3 February, 2010

Nasri is class. he is probably the closest thing to Fab. The guy had a broken leg and has come back and done twice as much as Eduardo has!! i’d cash in on Eduardo and buy Villa. As much as Wenger said he is interested he wont pay over 15mill for him as he is 28.

8. Paolo - 3 February, 2010

to be honest there are not many players out there we can get hold of. I’d like to see Hazard come in. this guy has it all and probably Subotic or Sakho and buy a decent keeper Akinfeev my shout. then i think we would clean up and win the league and a cup!

9. bob mcnabs cat - 3 February, 2010

Bendtner was shit before he got injured. The only reason we rose to top spot was because he got injured!
we will win nothing with Bendtner, eboue, song and diaby in the team, not to mention Almunia! can anybody honestly tell me if there is a worse keeper in the prem?
Its only because of liverpool, chelsea and utd’s inconsistancy that we are where we are. We are punchin above our weight. Wenger has sold us short again!

10. Paolo - 3 February, 2010

mate, i’d have to disagree about song… the guy has been immense this season. Diaby has been getting alot better.

11. bob mcnabs cat - 3 February, 2010

Paolo,

sounds like you are spending too much time on fifa manager2010.
If you think wenger is going to start chucking tin about like confetti you need help son!

we need a root and branch clear out because when cesc goes, and he will, we are going to be left with dross that will struggle to make europe let alone the champs league.

Take cesc, nasri, arshavin, rosicky out the team and we look shit!

12. Willy Young - 3 February, 2010

Surely we need a clear out of the huge fringe squad to liberate some cash for proper signings and ease the wage bill

the following players must have some value
almunia
fabianski
( sign a proven goalie and let Schesny fight it out with Vito)

Gilbert
hoyte
Randall
denilson
Simpson ( barely a QPR starter now)
Vela or Walcott ( don’t need both )
silveste
clichy (sad to say it)
bazarite

13. bob mcnabs cat - 3 February, 2010

song has two good games and two poor. I will accept he is better than the others but he is too inconsistant.
it kills me to say it but we look so out our depth against teams like united and chelsea. it just aint Arsenal!!

14. hugo dross - 3 February, 2010

Why do we keep these players in the reserves, they will never be first teamers, not even on the subs bench. Clishy has gone down the pan this season, some of his clearances have been pathetic, more like up and unders! Randell, he is more interested in what his hair looks like, thinks he is better than he actually is.
Sack Wenger and get van basten!!!!!

15. Paolo - 3 February, 2010

i dont do Fifa Mate….

Wenger knows if we dont do anything this year. Project Youth is over. Hence he will have to remove players like Denilson. Whats the point in Fab leaving when he wont walk in to the Barca team. The guy is the captain of Arsenal. Its called Loyalty he has more of a allegience to Arsenal than Barca. Considering they didnt want to know when he was there!! If anything they wont wanna spend 60mill on Cesc. The only team that could afford him is Real Madrid. As a team we are alot better than that.

16. bob mcnabs cat - 3 February, 2010

……….. im still waiting for anyone to tell me the name of a goalie in the prem worse than almunia

Who says cesc would go barca or madrid?
its a dangerous game making assumptions about where he might end up but the fact is he is miles better than anyone at arsenal and loyalty means nothing in football, giggs aside
I agree though, Denilson is no way good enough for the Gunners

17. cleveleys gooner - 3 February, 2010

Some of the criticisms made are understandable but not fair – Almunia did not lose the game against man U and was in my opinion unlucky – I have noticed other `class’ keepers like Cech and Van den Sar make gaffes in recent week swith barely a murmur due to their respective teams winning. Main problem I can see is that our left side Clichy/Traore have been incredibly poor in the past month.- and are being clearly targeted by opponents. Denilson needs to be replaced by Diaby, if he is and Bendtner (although he doesnt look fit) starts against Chelsea – who knows.

18. Othniel - 3 February, 2010

All those that have been saying denilson, nasri & eduardo are not good enough are just saying rubbish,ALMUNIA is our main problem. He jokes with the ball too much,he’s not that focused & wenger himself shop for real players not academy footballers.

19. bob mcnabs cat - 3 February, 2010

definateley agree about the left side and clichy being targetted, reminds me of gibbs against utd in last years champions lge.

Almunia has got to go, he really is the worst keeper ive seen at the arsenal since geoff barnett!

20. Zap - 3 February, 2010

and you really are the biggest cunt i’ve seen since q

21. Zap - 3 February, 2010

fucking retard.

22. fineboy - 3 February, 2010

bob mcnabs cat u are a fool for comments 9 and 13

23. Arshadin - 4 February, 2010

Dont worry guys, as the world cup is getting closer we will see more teams dropping points. That is when most players involve in the WC will not take risk getting injured and be out of their country’s squad. At that stage their form will drop to 80-90% before they begin the WC preps.
This season it will be all different..

24. Zap - 4 February, 2010

hi William

25. q - 4 February, 2010

Zap

u really are a turd

but thats probably because your head is so far up wengers arse!

anyone with half a brain knows that Bendtner is shit!!
we have got no decent striker, no decent full backs and no fucking chance,
wake up prick, its tossers like you with your little imaginary friends on your shoulder telling you we are the best that are deluded!
