Injury Update: Diaby ‘a maybe’, Eduardo & Vela out 4 February, 2010
Posted by lasagnechef in Arsenal News.trackback
I’ve been waiting for an injury update since Monday and still nothing has come up on the Arsenal.com home page. However turn to our dedicated injury room and there’s a free video in there with an update ahead of the Chelsea game:
“Campbell is back in the squad. Diaby is not yet back in normal training. If all goes well, if he progresses very well, we’ll still have to wait until Saturday.
Eduardo is already ruled out of the Chelsea game.”
He went on to confirm Diaby as ‘a maybe’ for Sunday before updating us on some longer term injuries:
“[Djourou] Still two months. We have to be patient with him. He is working, progressing well, working well but he is not an immediate resource.
[van Persie] Rehabilitation is going well but I think before April would be a little bit premature.”
He also told us that Carlos Vela was out. I never knew he was injured to be honest I just thought he was out of favour; he hasn’t offered a lot when he’s been involved this season. It’s a shame because I thought he might make an impact. He still needs time.
Wenger also reminded us that we have Walcott in the squad. In another interview he’s told us to be patient with him again and insists if he has an injury free season ‘he will have a good end of season’.
Theo is a popular topic of conversation at the moment. Yesterday I linked to Gunnerblog’s article on him and if you haven’t read that it’ll still be up there. He’s had such bad luck with injuries this season, it’s been frustrating for the club to have such a stop-start season and also disruptive personally for his World Cup chances. I believe Wenger though, he hasn’t played much football this term and he needs to get a run of games together, he’s still a developing talent remember and you can’t expect him to come straight back with a bang. Give him time and I think he will produce.
I’m not saying by the end of the season he’s going to be the new Theirry Henry but I think his England chances are still in the balance if he can stay fit and get in the team from now until the end of the season. I don’t expect him to start on Sunday, it’s too much of a deep end to throw him into but just like last Sunday I expect him to come off the bench. He might not be able to string together a full good performance yet but he’s still capable at this raw stage of his comeback to do something dangerous, he just needs to try be less anonymous and get in the game.
So Diaby will have a late fitness test to see whether he can play. I don’t know when that video was recorded but I’m sure we’ll get another update on him later tonight or tomorrow. I really hope he makes it though, not just because he was in good form recently but Denilson looks clearly struggling at the moment. The Brazilian didn’t look so bad at the start of the season but he’s not playing well at all at the moment and any weak link will be exploited by Chelsea just as United did.
We need the type of player like Diaby at Chelsea. He’s strong, penetrative, reads the game and is a threat going forward. Lets hope he makes it.
And that’s all the news there really is at the moment. Really is worryingly quiet round here, I hope that means we’re in deep preparation to re-mount our title chase on Sunday. Speak to you tomorrow.

I think Diaby is very important to us, especially in bigger games
Who gives a toss about Theo’s “World Cup chances”? What about his chances with the people who pay him his wages?
Well I guess I care a bit so that there’d be one less cunt I have to support this summer.
On a personal level though (which is what I was writing about) the world cup place is very important to him. He will be hoping to play well for him employers so he can play for England this summer.
We are clearly the most injury plagued squad in the league. Dennis Bergkamp was saying, that he loved pre-season, As we would have new arrivals. Clearly thats not the case now!! The squad is clearly has no motivation to beat the big teams!! I love to see us win on sunday. but i think the best thing we can hope for is a draw!! as we are clearly gonnna concede as we are so Gung-ho.
Well done Wenger. We all knew Eduardo would be out for longer than expected. So entering the crucial stage of the season, with the Champions League resuming soon, we are left with Bendtner, an inconsistent striker who has played 20 mins in the last 3 months. We will win bugger all this season simply because we have no firepower left upfront. Wenger’s inability to sign a forward has ended any chance we had of lifting a trophy.
Zap
u really are a turd
but thats probably because your head is so far up wengers arse!
anyone with half a brain knows that Bendtner is shit!!
we have got no decent striker, no decent full backs and no fucking chance,
wake up prick, its tossers like you with your little imaginary friends on your shoulder telling you we are the best that are deluded!
………….oh and wenger, collect your coat you have ruined what was a great club 5 years ago!!
paolo,
the best we can hope for is a narrow defeat and not an embarrassing hammering.
If you honestly think we can draw with chelsea you are another dolly daydreamer!
we’re fucked and will remain so whilst wenger is in charge!
since when has a team of midgets been a match for a team of grown men? never and never will,
clichy ballack
arshavin terry
rosicky lampard
nasri drogba
fabregas anelka
we are a team of lghtweights, the only one chelsea have got is deco
get a grip
hleeeeeeeeeeeb,
about time we had a fucking realist on this blog, well done!
It’s nice to dream but Sunday will be a nightmare AGAIN
the best we can hope for until the end of the season is 3rd place to beat Spuds and Citeh ( not a given) and hope Wenger gives Walcott , Vela , Bendtner Fabianski some playing time to prove they are good enough or else get rid!! And replace with proven not potential as we have hundreds of those spoilt brats kicking around the Squad
why is it spurs can spend big with a poxy 36,000 attendance yet we have to play kids who clearly aint up to it! Wenger spoon fed us lie after lie 4 years ago ” a bigger stadium will mean we can compete with the biggest in europe” what a fucking joke!
now he says any big name players will ruin the balance of the team, so lets ruin the balance!! we arent good enough in our present form.
Wenger is finished!!
This lacking was never more apparent than on Sunday evening, when they were torn to shreds by United, who shone a spotlight on shortcomings evident since they inflicted a similar defeat in the Champions League in April last year
You are all fools, ten games unbeaten and a loss and u are complaining, team of midgets, how tall are u guys, we may or may not win on sunday and that is not the end of the world. Judge this team at the end of the season and dont add to our present problems. Grow up guys or we will end up like newcastle utd.
Why don’t you misery-pundits look at the league table? If we were as shit as you say how would we still be up there with right in the thick of it?
Obviously, injuries haven’t helped us this season – especially the one to RvP, but thats life.
Have you lot even considered that in 7 days time Arsenal will have played against nearly all the difficult teams in the League and will have a pretty easy run in that lasts around 12 games, whereas, the other top teams still have to play each other?
it’s a bit sad imitating me innit u donut. that wasn’t me on comment 8 btw.
i agree with ‘France’
u lot are a bunch of penguins i hope ‘chef has better readers on this blog than u lot sad bunch of fucking mugs as if we need more problems right now.
makes me sick that cunts like q will actually be hoping we lose.
…We are Arsenal…
….We are Arsenal…
Viva l’arsenal
come on arsenal!
Arsenal does not need the kind of support some of you so called fans offer! Unfucking believable that after a run of 10 games unbeaten 1 loss and a bad day at the office u all call for wengers head! Get a grip one very bad day at the office and u all turn! This team is improving and has beaten in the past manure n chavs and finished nowhere in a season! We won at the bridge last season if u all remember? Manure proved u can win the league without scorin high against direct opponents.. Last season they get 5 points from them..yes we can improve concede less etc but it ain’t over yet.. So have some fuckin faith of fuck off b support the chavs..manure.. shitty or da spuds!
manure and chavs?
grow up you fucking imbecile and as for “we are improving”, are you blind as well as dumb? no way is this team improving and how you can be so blinkered is beyond a joke.
You sound like wenger and the board. The truth is we have been getting worse for the past 4 years, Wake up loser, you have as much ambition as wenger, happy with 2nd best coz it means champions league.
get on with your homework!!
.and Zap,
get a life!
yeah Zap,get an education
innit!
dick
q,
Who would you have replace Wenger?
I don’t think there is anyone out there who could manage this club better. Everyone has bad days and last Sunday was one of them. I still trust him though and wouldn’t swap him for anyone.
But how frustrating is this:

Chef,
You and the users of your blog make some valid points and i for one enjoy reading most days even if it is to wind up some of the contributors just for the crack, however i feel that change at the top would be the only sensible solution to what is becoming a tale of the same old story. Wenger has done brilliantly over the past ten years but he has run his course. He will keep us ticking along in 3rd or 4th place and consistantly reaching the knockout stages of the CL but if we want to go that bit extra i think we need to look for a new man with fresh ideas. Arsenes loyalty to youth is clearly not working and as i have said i really feel that we will win nothing with Almunia, Denilson, Song, Eboue and Bendtner in the team. Wengers tactics and inability to bring players in when we most need them is nothing short of disgraceful, and that is not just me saying that but all the newspapers and TV and other blogs, are we all wrong?
Wenger has had his day and all good things must come to an end, that is my opinion.
As for who should replace him….well, there would be no shortage of quality applying for probably the best job in football.
Keep up the good work.
q you are definitely disgraceful
you are definitely disgraceful, q
zap
are you bunking off?
idiot!
wenger on sky news ” no matter what happens sunday we will still fight to the end of the season”,
Hardly a ringing endorsement is it??
lasagnechef, you stated in post 21 that everybody has bad days and sunday was 1 of them.
do you think that people who want change base it on 1 result or even 1 season? That would be totally irrational.
There’s been a lot of ridiculous reaction to Sunday’s result calling for the manager to go. However they’re looking past the fact he’s got us in a title race, in the position we are with a clearly thin squad plagued by injuries. I’m not getting ‘Wenger Knows’ tattooed acoss my back or anything but he’s done well this season all things considered.
…or, Chelsea and Man United have just been shit too.
man utd and gary neville in particular have been shit for long periods of wengers arsenal career. neville 8 prem 2 champs leauge.wenger 3 prem no european trophy.the stats dont lie. no hope of silverware this year due to unbeilvable decision not to strengthen squad. if your happy to pay the equivilant of my kids fortnightly food costs to watch characteless surrender your not a true football or arsenal fan. we are arsenal not fc wenger. we want our pride back.
Evry contributor on dis blog has done fairly well. No names callin… Pls lets b civil. But let us xmine dis: arsenal players gave all ova 2-legged crunch tie against bolton wanderers xspecially d 2nd leg @ d emirates where they workd deir socks off 2 cancel a 2-goal deficit 2 win 4-2. They shot 2 d top of d premier league. I 4 one thot dat d best tin 2 do around dis 1daful period is 2 bring 2/3 playas(attack bein d priority) in, 2 motivate jaded players like cesc, arsh, vamelean, sagna, gallas who hv been big time performers 4 us. Arsene & d board neva did. It reflectd in our match again aston villa where we playd without motivatn or desire. Compare dis scene 2 d effect arshavin had on us last year january. Some of our playas hv tried dis season 2 make trophies a reality. Perhap, arsene & d board shuld try harder. Evrybody knows wat arsene can do, but as much as i love & respect him, i think arrogancy is setting in. Dis alone is capable of destroyin all his good works in d team. I wish us all d best!
Any more word on Diaby? Gotta think that Ramsey would be more effective than Denilson was last weekend. He would run his balls off and he seems more confident on the ball than Denilson at this point. I say he wouldn’t be scared by the prospects of getting tossed in against Chelsea…
my two cents…
