Still no news on Cesc – maybe because there isn’t any? 20 May, 2010

The Fabregas to Barcelona stories are still coming from various blogs, newspapers and sports channels but to sum everything up – nothing has happened at all. There’s still nothing from Arsenal about this apparent meeting with Wenger, no quotes from Cesc, nothing official from Barcelona or anything else for that matter.

In an attempt to keep the story going the tabloids have to just make up some shite. The Mail reckon we’re asking for £80m but reckon Barca want to give us Hleb back as part of the deal and The Guardian are claiming he will be reunited with his former club by the weekend. The Guardian are usually quite a respectable source of information so I’m hoping they’re just jumping on the hype bandwagon with that one.

The fact of the matter is though that the papers can write whatever the fuck they want; they can say that we’re setting up a straight swap for Messi and I wouldn’t care. I’ve been writing this blog for four years now and the biggest tip I’ve taken out of it is take everything that’s written in the papers with a bucket of salt. Tabloid speculation is 90% untrue so there’s no point even wasting your time with it. A lot of the time I totally ignore these sort of stories but as this ones so widespread, so important and won’t go away I guess it needs a bit of comment. My way of dealing with things is don’t decide anything until you hear anything official. I couldn’t care less what is written until I see something on Arsenal.com, or from the manager or player’s mouth.

I would be expecting something soon to be honest, to confirm or deny the stories but nothing has come up yet. Maybe the clubs are in talks, maybe Wenger is still talking to Cesc about it or maybe nothing has happened at all – who knows? Only they do and it’ll stay like that until the time comes. I’m praying our captain wants to stay as much of the next Gooner but you wont see this blog getting caught up in anything until I hear it from higher up.

Seeing as there is no news on it then, lets move on. Sol Campbell’s been talking about his proud comeback to Premiership football. It is quite an achievement really and you can only put it down to his hard work and determination. He might’ve lost a bit of fitness with age but he makes up for it in effort and a player that will turn 36 next season is likely to get another contract as the highest level. He’s shown what it takes to be a fighter too and some of the younger players in this side should take note of that, the thing with bringing through a young side is that there isn’t many players that have won things in the squad and you need that sometimes.

Sol reckons we need to bulk up the side a bit and says ‘you can’t rely on just 13 or 14 players’. This is something fans have been saying for a long, long time but whether we don’t have to money or other reasons it hasn’t been addressed. We are one of the unluckiest teams ever with injuries so it doesn’t help to have such a small first team squad. We’re in the market to improve the squad now and I ‘understand’ (as is the expression nowadays) that the first addition will be announced Monday or Tuesday. We have to keep going though and if we can make it two new signings before the World Cup I think that’s a good start.

In other news Robin van Persie’s been talking about helping out the team and Theo Walcott’s saying he wants to make much more of an impact at this year’s World Cup. And that’s about it then today. Maybe we’ll hear something much more concrete do to with the Cesc stories over the next few days but until then speculation with carry on, and on, and on. What a bore.

Speak to you soon.

Read in some Scottish newspaper that we have slapped an 80 mill fee on him. So cough up or shut up!!!!

2. Gooner - 20 May, 2010

My mates dads pet Llama knows Joan Laporta’s pet Goat and they have been talking on email and apparently Cesc will move on loan to Getafe while they wait for Xavi to die

Zap - 21 May, 2010

hahahahaha

3. Judith Le'Strange - 20 May, 2010

Either Fabregas comes straight out and tells everyone that yes he is seeking a transfer back to Barcelona and that it will happen before the World Cup or he says he is happy at Arsenal. Either way it needs to be sorted asap, that way we can get on with strengthening the team with a new goalkeeper, defenders and another striker.

4. herdee string - 20 May, 2010

i have some news. cesc wanked and came this morning imagining licking pep guardiola’s arsehole while pique gave him a reacharound. following his cum explosion, messi pruned his pubes.

5. Guildford - 20 May, 2010

Very righteous of you to do an article about not following everyone else getting worked up on the Cesc to Barca saga

But ignoring that irony….

The biggest let down in all of this FARCE is not Barcelona and their underhand tactics (thats how they & Real have worked for years) & its not the captain of Arsenal who recently signed a contract extension before expressing his wishes to sign for his boyhood club, a fact that we all knew from the day he first played for us.

Its the people in power that ‘run’ Arsene PLC (formerley Arsenal Football Club)

The fact that they’ve not come out with ONE signal quote or statement on this whole situation so far, similiar to the Henry & Vieira sagas from previous seasons, stinks to high heaven & they, including Wenger, should be ashamed of their conduct.

6. gunner17 - 20 May, 2010

the cesc stories are all absolute lies! why do football clubs or players never take papers to court? if i was wenger or gazidis, i’d be launching taking every media outlet that has run this story to court and sue them each for £1m. it’s f*cking annoying for fans, the club, and players to keep refuting false stories.

7. gunner17 - 20 May, 2010

cesc will stay an arsenal player until 2014, and then he’ll go back to barca on a free.

arsenal will let it happen because we will have had a good number of years’ service from him, hopefully a few trophies too, and because we have a good number of prospects who by that stage will be ready to take his place. chiefly i’m thinking of ramsey, wilshere, jet and maybe lansbury.

we got him for nothing, will take a few glory years from his career, and let him go for nothing. fine by me.

8. gunner17 - 20 May, 2010

his contract expires june 2014. he might sign an extension if barca have waned by then, and we have become a power in football. i’m expecting him to leave in june 2014 on a free, but arsenal might chodse to sell earlier. a year earlier must mean £30m, two years earlier must mean £60m, this summer cannot be allowed to happen.

9. gunner17 - 20 May, 2010

barca and real are a bunch of c*nts, the way they tap people up. i really hope we beat these sides to the european cup one of these years and shut them up. they can’t go on signing £80m players every window.

10. gunner17 - 20 May, 2010

ang guillem ballague is a lying little sh*t. all of this is his fault. if someone wants to put him in a sack with kay burley and adam boulton and throw them into a lion’s den i won’t complain.

11. Gooner - 20 May, 2010

some of you idiots are idiots

Goonerpower - 20 May, 2010

Some of you are idiots. Care to Share what you mean.

12. irish gooner - 20 May, 2010

fuck barcelona

13. Donnyfan1 - 20 May, 2010

Cesc is a hyperactive playmaker. Rambo and Jacko will be at least as good in time. So- for a year or so we would need a replacement.Ya Ya, Melo etc are not either of those two things and are a total waste of space in that role. Who fits the bill? Who do we need? Only Iniesta I am afraid! Give us Iniesta and 20million and we are talking. Otherwise bog off!

14. mike e - 20 May, 2010

transfer gossip sells papers – even the old broadsheets now have gos columns. fact.

sadly arsenal now has a reputation as a selling club so other big clubs will come sniffing after our name of the day – at the moment cesc.

if we hadn’t sold thierry or patrick in their prime they wouldn ‘t come knocking. but we did. and they do.

15. gunner17 - 20 May, 2010

wilshere will be to fabregas what messi was to ronaldinho

16. gunner17 - 20 May, 2010

we never sold henry or vieira in their prime! we sold them both 18 months after they had peaked.

fabregas will peak at 25-27 and will diminish slowly after that because of his physiology.

no player who starts as young as he did and has played as much as he has done has ever lasted physically longer than their 28th. look at owen, ronaldo, eto’o.
we should keep him until he’s 27 and the flog him for £100m.

17. Jan - 20 May, 2010

Has any one seen this clip from Barcas homepage

http://www.fcbarcelona.com/web/english/index.html

Seems to me they won’t get Fab this year at least..

18. muyo - 20 May, 2010

Barcelona do NOT want Cesc. If they did, they would offer more than €35 million. This is just posturing. The Barcelona presidential elections are this summer and the president wants to pretend that he’s trying to buy Cesc so that he will get re-election. They always do this – they did it with Henry for years.
Barca can have Cesc when, a) Cesc is 30, or b) in exchange for Yaya Touré, Ibrahimovic, Bojan and Marquez plus €40 million.

19. gunner17 - 20 May, 2010

barca have to be seen to be asking after fabregas politically, but they don’t really need him this year at all. if anything they’re looking for an additional left-sided attacker and another striker on top of villa if ibrahimovic goes.

torres, di maria, silva – these guys are much more likely than cesc. also mascherano if toure goes.

20. gunner17 - 20 May, 2010

ibrahimovic to liverpool, swap for torres?

21. gunner17 - 20 May, 2010

the media need to stop going on about fabregas and pick up on some other more sensible rumours

22. gunner17 - 20 May, 2010

sandro rossell has just put barca’s debts at £420m, not including the £100m spent on transfers last year. they can’t afford cesc.

23. gunner17 - 20 May, 2010

i’m bored at work, can you tell?

24. coggster - 20 May, 2010

check out vermalaens facebook…he comments on cesc……he wants to go, barca want him, but he is under contract…its Arsenals call….

25. fahim - 20 May, 2010

if cesc leaves us for about 40million…i think we should go for steve gerrard!!!!i think he will join us and we can add some more money if he wants!!!he would be a good replacement!!!!

26. BRHANE - 20 May, 2010

oh men allow him to go becuase he deserved it.
why is saying i will play to Barcelona after some of arrival to arsenal. so why couldn’t understood his desire.
beside to this arsene Wenger couldn’t afford to make new signings or stay their stars like Flamini,Hleb,Adebayor, toure and soon to win a trophy. They finished trophy less last five successive seasons. so lets leave him to make his decision up on the issue.

27. Arsenal Tom - 20 May, 2010
28. JoeB - 20 May, 2010

The source of all this speculation?
http://www.guillembalague.com/rumores_desp.php?titulo=Fabregas+informs+Wenger+of+desire+to+quit+Arsenal+for+Barcelona+this+summer&id=278
Notice the heading “rumours”… and we get a media storm over it the likes of which we’ve never seen before.
If you tell a lie enough times people will start believing it.

Also Wenger has commented on it – saying there’s only so many times he can be bothered to say the speculation is a load of BS. Why should he be ashamed?

29. boo - 20 May, 2010

a load of bulshit. wenger’s on holiday until next week so how the hell did that fat muppet who broke the “story” know the cesc went to see him?

barcelona will have to pay a world record fee for fab if they want him now. they would be comiting suicide if they pay that fee because barcelona are so far in debt that the will soon implode when every team they play from now on adopts the same tactics as inter.

remember, the only reason we stole fab in the first place from this stupid club was because they were in dire straights 10 years ago. so go on stupid club of barcelona, pay us 80 million for a boy we stole from you for nothing! what a load of muppets!

30. Willy young - 20 May, 2010

You say the squad is too small that is tosh

we have about 40 registered players for christ sake

the point is the squad needs trimming down to accomodate better players in key positions aka Denilson DIaby gkeepers etc

We have 4 keepers on our books but only 1 Schesny might be good enough

why do the club keep paying the wages of these never good enough Arsenal players. QPR fans think Simpson is crap Randall is on the bench for MKDOns Hoyte cany get in the BRoghton Forster team GIlbert is a sub

But we keep paying their salaries WHy?
Clear out the deadwood and those who don’t want to play for the Arsenal and find players who do!!

We are The Arsenal

31. arsenalin - 20 May, 2010

Let him go!

32. SA Gooner - 20 May, 2010

I have to agree with the Chef there are no real facts, just punters punting lots of detractors doing their usual anti arsenal stuff (no silverware, we are a selling club, blah blah blah blah) – On the real facts and figures Fab just aint going.

4 years at Arsenal for the rest of his contract is better than 40, 50, 60, or 70 million now. 80 is about right and Barca just are not going to pay it. All the Wenger moaners would be trying to kill him if he let Fab go for less.

Let him go don’t let him go. Cesc has been insulted by Barca offering 30 for him and 70 for Torres. Allegedly. He is Arsenal Captain, what will he be at Barca, Like Henri, Someone, with someone elses meddles.

Wenger is strengthening the squad. Fab will go on to lead Barca, but as a winning captain from Arsenal.

There is no news about this from the club because having made the offer to Barca it is now for Cesc to see that Barca are not serious about getting him at the moment. At 30m it was worth a punt for them especially if they can offload a few expensive extras too, but there is nothing out there but heartache.

Wrong timing Cesc. Now understand football, finance and contracts.

33. Zap - 21 May, 2010

I dont give a fuck abt cesc. He can piss off if he wants to, dyou know ho wmuch money we’d get?

34. Zap - 24 May, 2010

where have you dissapeared?

35. emir8 - 25 May, 2010

“if arsene doesnt want to sell cesc then he will have to stay, he is an arsenal player”

Does any one know of a player that has requested a move then stayed at his club and won a bundle of trophies?

thought not

36. Lenny the Gooner - 28 May, 2010

Let Cesc Go.He has given us 7 years great service. But also get rid of the rubbish in the squad “Sideways” Denilson,Diaby the never will be the new Vieira. The two clowns in goal,Walcott and Vela
We have too many players earning big money for little return

37. emir8 - 1 June, 2010

Walcott didnt deserve to go to the world cup, he has been shit for two seasons and cappello gave him enough chances!
