Nasri’s bloody injured, Djourou’s not & news round up 18 August, 2010

trackback

News broke earlier today that Samir Nasri will undergo minor knee surgery that will see him out for at least a month. It was a shock and a massive disappointment hearing the news, not only because he was out stand-out player in pre-season but that it has only been announced now that he picked up an injury on Sunday – I was totally unaware he had a problem and looked fine all 90 minutes. Well it was confirmed today that he picked up a meniscal injury, which with a quick Google tells me that he’s torn the cartilage in his knee.

This was supposed to be Samir’s season; he’s fully settled in England now and talk from the training camp is that he’s twice the player compared with when he arrived. He had a fantastic pre-season winning man of the match almost every game, that was coming off the back of missing out on the World Cup and is obviously out to prove a point. I have always been a fan of Nasri and I was surprised to see that he wasn’t selected for France, we benefited from that though having him back from the summer all fresh and very hungry. But now this, I hope he can return from the lay-off and come straight into the side with the impressive form he’s shown already this season. Get well soon Samir.

I guess this injury is good news for Jack Wilshere though who will almost certainly continue in to side for at least a few more games. Chances like this are what turns a reserve/youth player into a proper first team member so hopefully he benefits from it. Also coming in is Cesc Fabregas who missed the opener through a lack of match fitness but should be back by now. He has all this week to get ready for Blackpool on Saturday and I expect to see our captain starting. I’m really looking forward to our opening home game, it was nice to be back for the Emirates Cup but this is for real now and I can’t wait. I’m sure all you with tickets are getting excited too and the club are urging us to get in extra early on Saturday for the official renaming of the stands including the new Clock End clock and unveiling of some new banners. So make sure you’re at your seat at 2.45pm the latest, I know I will be.

Back to injury news and it appears Johan Djourou is fit which is handy with Koscielny’s one match suspension coming up. Johan has had terrible luck with injuries his whole career and I’m surprised to hear that he’s fit actually because I thought I heard he had another couple of weeks out but we’ll hear confirmation from Arsene on Friday. If that Telegraph article is correct then I’m looking forward to seeing Djourou play and hoping he can maintain a bit of fitness for a while, we’re dangerously low on centre backs at the moment so we can’t have everyone getting injured and sent off.

Hopefully Arsene has a signing up his sleeve though; he’s said a few times that he intends to add at least one more centre back but I’m not hearing anything as yet. The only news today is that we could be in fact losing one more defender in Armand Traore. Well, you can argue if the term ‘defender’ is an accurate description of his job title. I don’t think anyone will have any complaints about letting him go though, he’s the third choice left back so he’s probably not going to get any game time here. If there are unlikely quite possible injuries to both Clichy and Gibbs I’m sure we’ll manage with some Flamini-style replacement anyway like we did in 2006.

David Seaman thinks we should buy Schwazer and Fabianski would like us to sing his name. Maybe one day we will.

That’s about it really for today, as I’m sure you’ve read elsewhere the Arsenal Fanshare scheme was launched today. I think it’s a great idea but I haven’t decided yet whether I’m going to get involved buying a 1/100th of a share for £100 but it’d be nice to own a tiny piece of Arsenal and get to go to the AGM meetings and things. Maybe I will. If you want to read more on this go here.

Build up to the Blackpool game to come this week. Until then.

FUCK. Here we go. We can’t catch a break. Nasri is easily our second best midfielder after Fabregas. He will be missed BIG TIME.

2. gaz 63 - 18 August, 2010

i disagree about the fanshare idea, as far as i can see it is just another momey making scam to go along with the plaques, rip off seat prices and even dodgy ring tones. Arsenal have lost all connection with the fans (like wenger) and any amount of renaming of stands or banner unveiling wont convince most honest hard working mortgage paying fans that this isnt the case. We keep being told that the emirates is like a library, most people are in shock about the cost of a beer and something to eat having paid the highest prices in the WORLD to even consider starting to sing! If you can put football to one side and look at our financial situation it an absolute outrage that we have paid off well over half of the stadium cost and raked in god knows how much in transfer fees and still wont purchase quality that can win a trophy. We are financially more stable than the top 8 or 9 in the prem but still wont invest in world class talent. The argument that to spend now would put us in dire straits just doesnt stack up. The board have brainwashed Arsenal fans who because of their loyalty to the club have been happy to accept the notion the board have touted.
We are being ripped off and conned.

Shares are trading above £10,000 at the moment, if anything, the supporters trust & fans are getting a discount. Stop talking non-sense you chav and just worry about your giro.
Arsenal are trying to make the fans feel part of things and should be applauded for this.

3. schoolboys77 - 18 August, 2010

The reason we are called the library is because most of the people that go to the stadium now have no recollection of standing behind the goal and creating an atmosphere, plus the fans that like to sing are dotted all around the ground which doesnt help. Most new stadiums lack atmosphere but should WHU move to the olympic stadium it will take the term library to a whole new level as the running track and associated long jumps etc are remaining, WHU inability to fill it of course would make it ulta quiet!

£100 for 1/100th of a share?
what a fucking liberty, are they not happy with the most expensive tickets in the land?? What rights would 1/100th of a share give you? 1/100th of 1/100th off the price of a carling cup ticket?
WHAT A JOKE!!
gaz bang on!

ron - 18 August, 2010

I see your not numerate either. Something must be done about the education in this country before its too late.

lasagnechef - 18 August, 2010

Gives you the rights to vote as a shareholder, attend the AGM and own a piece of Arsenal. If only a very, very small piece. No ones forcing you to buy one.

5. Leffe,Sweden - 18 August, 2010

Here we go again……Now Nasri….Who´s gonna be next?..
Problaby Djourou…

6. Albo-uganda. - 18 August, 2010

Early warnings 4 wenger, but still he stays silent, no action taken and we continue counting on injured players to make a come back, this is not going to work, we need to sign players right away or else another trophyless season.

7. f4phantomphreak - 18 August, 2010

look I know it sucks what Arsenal are doing to the average fan, but we all love Arsenal and unfortunately we have to just deal with it for now… I believe if Arsene doesn’t bring in cover for this squad we will be in big trouble. We all know that this team has more players getting knackered than any other team, period!! I believe when the injuries start coming thick and fast we will sink in the table. I fear that we will be eclipsed from the top 4 and be playing Europa League footie next season.

8. kingsley - 18 August, 2010

i think we need a new center back and swarzer will be a great keeper for 2 years otherwise mannone should keep

9. gaz63 - 18 August, 2010

ron nob,
giro?

you are the typical blinkered fool i am on about, 1/100th of a share for what? nothing! another idiot being sucked in!
Mugs like you keep feeding on scraps offered by a rip off bunch that call themselves directors but couldnt wait to offload shares as soon as the yank and russian arrived on the scene.
You really are a muppet!

ron - 18 August, 2010

You thick shit, they are being sold below current market value to the fans as a collective. The shareholders trust wishes to increase its stake in order to give fans a voice and so this increases their shareholding.
They are not being forced on anybody, you don’t need a fan share to buy a ticket. You can buy pieces of the moon if you like, are they ripping off star gazers or amateur astronomers?

A giro my friend, is what your unemployed, illiterate, innumerate ass collects as you leech off the government.

10. bob mcnabs cat - 18 August, 2010

Unless anyone is going to invest 20K each its a pointless excercise.
You would need 50,000 fans each agreeing a direct debit of £20 a month for five years for the Fanshare scheme to own just 10 per cent of Arsenal and even then there would be no certainty having a say in Arsenals destiny. Just look at Barcelona, the biggest fan owned club in the world, how much did they borrow from the bank over the summer? 150 million euros just to pay the players wages.
Ron, dont get drawn in by all the hype

11. jermaine - 18 August, 2010

same shit different season

12. bob mcnabs cat - 18 August, 2010

keeper, keeper, keeper im sick to death of hearing about what keeper we are either buying selling or fielding
almunia is shit as is fabianski, mannone isnt ready for the big time and scwarzer is too old.
lets face it we wont win fuck all with the dross between the sticks at the moment just as every pundit explayer and journo keeps saying. instead of morons on here keeping their heads two foot deep in the sand how about a bit of reality even if it does piss you off………… Wenger is a liability now and has lost the spark he had five years ago. ARSENE ! COLLECT YOUR COAT!!!!

13. Jay-Jay - 18 August, 2010

Wenger collect your coat?

Christ..

I think you’ll find it’s barely-literate blathering like that is what most fans are sick to death of hearing. Why must a certain minority of Arsenal fans flame perfectly good blogs with such ill-thought drivel?

14. Dan - 18 August, 2010

Things are not that bad! Yes it is shit news that Samir is out for a month, but, during this next month all our fixtures are relativley easy; Blackpool, Blackburn, Bolton, Sunderland and then WBA before a real test at Chelsea. The current team is easily able to not just win but destroy these teams and depending on how kind the draw is in Europe a couple of wins there as well.
Wenger will strenghthen the defence, maybe not until January but it will happen. There is no need to worry about not qualifying for the champions league next year! Look at the squads Spurs, liverpool and Aston Villa have then tell me we are in trouble of not at least gaining 4th spot. I mean can you really see any other team other than Man u or Chelsea finishing above us? No you bloody cant is the answer! We are 3 defenders short atm we have 3 midfielders who can cover this at a stretch so stop shitting yourself and bloody enjoy another wicked season watching the best playing team in the prem.

15. bob mcnabs cat - 18 August, 2010

blinkered fools

lets see who is right come the end of the season, i cant believe the one eyed rose tinted unbalanced views that you all take.
are all the newspapers, tv pundits, newspapers and ex arsenal players (heroes) all wrong? is it some kind of conspiracy? If you actually took your heads out of wengers arse you might get a better idea of what is going on at the arsenal.

you delude yourselves if you want to but im a realist not fantasist

16. bob mcnabs cat - 18 August, 2010

Dan

you actually make some good points but ” wenger may strengthen the squad in january” just about sums up the state wenger has got us into, he has had all summer for christ sake!

Zap - 18 August, 2010

stop bloody complaining ffs just shut up about arsenal, if you are this unhappy with arsenal just go and support chelsea mate it would do you some good, so much bloody negativity its ridiculous

17. Zap - 18 August, 2010

plus, you talk to people like they are with some kind of major political movement that you greatly oppose and if nothing is done its the end of the world. They are just supporting their club. Stop whingeing because you arent gonna do anything about anything at arsenal any time soon! You should really go to le-grove or arsenal action where their daily posts mirror the same old shite you come up with onto here.

18. Jaygoooner - 18 August, 2010

Great name Bob McKnob. You are nearly as pessimistic as your namesake, the totally infuriating Mcnab who flattered to decieve for years on the left side of defence at the Old Highbury. He only ever had two good games for Arsenal, His first and his last. There you go, it is easy to be nasty eh?

19. Goonbag - 19 August, 2010

My God another misrible Arsenal Web site…. Yes players do get Injured, but some of the un intelligent comments blaming Wenger are ridiculous and we’ve only played one game.

Nasri is Injured – this is no ones fault. Going out and buying is not the option due to the 25 man rule. Midfield is not an area we are weak eiher… Albo-uganda – your comments are stupid, are you educated or were you bought up by wild dogs?

Bob McNabs Cat – you are a fool, a clown and thick as pig shite. The day you think the media is the Oracle of what is right in football (the same people that knew England would win the World Cup, that Liverpool would win last seasons PL, the people that claim Rooney is as good as Messi, the same people that claimed joe cole had signed for Arsenal… – I could go on… and on…) is the day that Katie Price is Prime Minister.

Wenger is Arsenals most successful Manager ever… of all time… ever… so in your opinion who should replace him? and please don’t say Mouriho..

20. Lenny the Gooner - 19 August, 2010

Things are not bad if we are the Spuds or Villa but we are not.We have become a team who were once the invincibles, once the best team in the country. Now we are happy just to get a top 4 place
And the signings this summer are not sufficent for us to WIN trophies.

Nothing tells you wear we are more than anything is the shambles around the goalkeeping situation

Zap - 19 August, 2010

just fuck off your all the same saying the same. do you really think nobody has ever heard what you have just said
